the stay at this hotel was pleasant. very clean. service was very good. location is very good…. but it fell short in several ways. mostly nit picking . the soda machines were not always marked properly. you had to go hunting for one. the restaurant only had white bread (no whole wheat etc) for breakfast which is so 1980s the ventilation system is a bit too ‘motel’ish. can be noisy. the coffee is horrible (better in the restaurant downstairs). there is no subdued lighting for at night…. for if you need a mid item per all this to say. the hotel looks tired. it’s time to bring this place into the 21st century

A two night reservation at the cost of about $500 left one of us with multiple bedbug bites. Night one I was awoken to my travel partner exclaiming that something had just woke him from his sleep by biting his forearm. As his arm was in the pillowcase and beneath the pillow. He promptly flipped lights on, looked in, found and killed a bedbug nymph. As two former Haligonians we once had experienced these pests over a decade ago through an apparent complex at the time. We knew right away exactly what it was. I quickly dialed guest services and spoke with Grant, the night manager. He came to our room (502, king, harbour view), had us put the nymph into an envelope for pest control to examine and took pictures of the fresh bites. We were told that the daytime manager and also the manager for housekeeping would be notified and would speak with us the following day in regard to compensation and their plan of action for dealing with the situation. We were moved to the only available room in the building for the remainder of that night and slept most uneasily. The following day I called guest services to discuss the issue, as no one reached out to either of us. Was told that such bites "take weeks to show" by a girl who was unaware that my partner is allergic to bedbugs and suffered an immediate reaction. She also insisted there would be blood on the sheets if it was a bedbug but perhaps she neglected to realize he wiped the blood from the specimen he squashed onto a tissue from his skin rather than onto the sheets like an animal. He currently has four swollen, itchy, rashy pustules on his forearm from this situation, which upon returning home were completely confirmed, as we knew already, by a doctor,  to be bedbug bites. The same girl who I spoke with over  the phone, as not one person made a single attempt to speak with us in person, informed me that pest control is not available on weekends and that we would have to wait until Monday, our checkout day, to hear from their chosen professional on the matter. She also told me they could only compensate us for the one night and offered to have our belongings laundered, saying it  would only take an hour to complete. We thusly bagged all of our clothing aside from our needed footwear and a leather coat and left it for them to take care of. This process took multiple hours and not the one were quoted. Thusly we sat around dressed in towels while missing an important meeting for which we were in the city to attend. We did not want to spend another night, let alone moment, in this establishment but out of fears that we could carry the bedbugs elsewhere, begrudgingly stayed the second night in another room. This was, to say the least, a violating experience and the customer service received was and should be considered an embarrassment to any respectable business in the hospitality industry. We intend to fight for a full refund, as no one pays to be attacked by parasitic insects. Avoid this hotel at all costs as they are clearly not professional in regard to such important issues.

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at this hotel. Rooms were clean and the beds very comfortable. The restaurant was an added bonus. They served a delicious breakfast and and our server couldn’t have been more accommodating. The walk along the waterfront was about 15 minutes away but very easy. The Atlantic Gas card was an added bonus and we would definitely return. Check in was a pleasure. Front desk staff were all very helpful.

The former Delta hotel is located on the furthest north end of downtown Halifax so it’s close to the boardwalk and plenty of restaurants and bars. Check in was a little slow because there was only one staff member behind the desk. But we eventually were pleasantly greeted by Tim who seemed to be really good at his job. Very knowledgeable and efficient. He helped fix an issue with booking.com. Thanks Tim and the manager that night. Pros - location, cleanliness, price Cons - parking garage was expensive and a pain, rooms are terribly dated.

I had to stay at a place for a few days when moving from Toronto to Halifax. I found Hotel Halifax through expedia and let me tell you, IT WAS THE BEST HOTEL STAY OF MY LIFE! Im originally from Dubai so I’ve been to all kinds of hotels and i’ve moved around alot and what made this hotel different from all the rest that I’ve stayed at is the impeccable hotel/ room service and above all the AMAZING staff. Each and everyone of them is polite, kind, knowledgeable and truly make you feel at home. I myself mostly interacted with Leah, Tim, and Braydon but all the other staff were just as friendly and just as attentive. I truly truly enjoyed staying at Hotel Halifax and will be coming again here for a staycation or something even if it is to see the staff again!
