This charming inn is perfectly situated between the train station and downtown. Restaurants, museums and other activities are within convenient walking distance. Several city bus routes have nearby bus-stops. The staff is friendly and helpful. Complementary coffee and tea is available 24/7. I enjoyed my stay and plan to return.

Stayed at this lovely inn last fall (September 2019). Had a nice time — staff friendly, breakfast food good, rooms nice and clean. Stayed in a room with two beds on/near the top floor. No elevator, an easy workout. An easy walk to the wharf area.

Even before I left my laptop behind, this was already my favourite Canadian hotel.

I'd been traveling across Canada, from Victoria to Charlottetown, promoting my book, Mute. (As a novelist I was intrigued by the fact that Oscar Wilde once stayed at the Waverley.) This was the eleventh hotel I'd stayed at in under a month.

No other hotel I'd visited presented delicious home-baked cookies and coffee to the guests. Nor did any offer the use of its own email address to any whom for some reason found him or herself without one. (Not to mention free wireless Internet access - a $10 a day upcharge at the more expensive hotel down the road.)

The staff was amazing, the room was gorgeous, the price was unbeatable, and the bed was like a cloud. After two heavenly nights at the Waverley, I was happy to return yet once more when I finished touring the Maritimes. It was like coming home.

In a rush to get to the airport, I discovered too late that my laptop had been left behind. I called the hotel before boarding, and was assured that it was safe and would be expidited to me. The next day, it arrived at my Edmonton office - the tote bag shrouded in bubble wrap and packed in a giant box full of foam peanuts. The UPS plane could have crashed, and my laptop would still have been fine!

Stay at the Waverley. Taste history. Savour the warmth of the staff. I certainly will again!

I stayed here once and liked it so much that I returned two weeks later. The first visit was made with my partner and we loved that the inn was within walking distance of everything, particularly so since parking in downtown Halifax can get a little pricey. We walked to Citadel Hill and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in one afternoon. There's a great sushi place just around the corner and an intimate jazz club across the street (don't worry about noise, we faced it directly in our room and never heard a peep until we opened the front door of the bar).

I cannot say enough nice things about the owner. He's genuinely interested in his guest's tales and, upon hearing my Mother had arrived from touring Kenya and Tanzania (my second visit came after picking her up at the Halifax airport) spoke with her for 45 minutes (which she loved because she had so many stories to relay) and then gave her a room on the ground floor because she'd been up for days and he was worried the stairs might be too much after such a long journey.

The computers in the lobby were easy to access and the internet connection was quite fast. There were several papers to choose from each day and the tea and cookies offered in the afternoon were a wonderful surprise. The breakfast is also delicious. They provide simple foods like bagels, toast, fruit, yogurt and muffins but also have a chef on hand who cooks french toast, eggs, sausages, etc. I couldn't believe what variety they offered and that it came free with the room.

The decor is stunning--someone has a real eye for antiquities and every room is decked out with original pieces including armoires, dressers, sinks, and beds. That's another thing--my boyfriend and I both felt that the bed was the most comfortable we'd experienced. All in all, I would wholeheartedly recommend the Waverley for people looking for a romantic getaway or a cozy and interesting place to stay in the heart of downtown.

This place is a hiden gem in Halifax. What a great value for your hard earned dollar. We stayed here for 8 night (March 30 - April 7) and it exceeded my expectations. The room rates are good but what makes this place is the added value and personal touch it has.
Free Parking
Free Local Calls
Free Continetial Breakfast (Eggs, French Toast, etc.)
Free Internet Use
Free Afternoon Coffee and Baked goods
Great Location
Nice and very knowledgable Staff
and the Inn is Very Clean

We only had one problem, and that was with our room location. We had a room one the first floor near the reception area and stairs to the breakfast room. There was noise almost every moring which cause some fustration while sleeping.

I highly recommend this Inn! If you can go without a pool, workout facility and saunas that a large chain hotel can provide then this is the place to stay in Halifax.

I was in Halifax with a friend for part of the weekend and, although the shopping experience and the clubbing were subpar, the room we booked at the last minute at the Waverly Inn was very nice and clean.

There seems to have been a slight issue with the plumbing in our room (hence the 4/5 rating) but, otherwise, everything was just fine.

We expected toast, eggs and coffee as our free continental breakfast but were very surprised with the nice selection of foods available in their dining area, especially given the reasonable rate for the room.

The internet stations downstairs were a nice touch and the bedding, bathroom and floors were the cleanest I'd seen in any hotel room.

I've already started recommending the Waverly Inn to my friends and relatives and am glad to give them this well-deserved positive review on TripAdvisor.

We arrived in Halifax in the rain with our yet to be set up tent and camping gear still in the trunk. The Tall Ships were in town for one more night so of course, there were very few rooms to be had. After several unsuccessfull phone attempts, I said to my husband "there is an inn - do you want me to try?". SUCCESS! We booked for one evening (as my husband doesn't like B&B style inns) much to my happiness. We stayed for 4 days in 3 different rooms and the only reason we didn't stay for 5 was because they were full! My husband has since changed his mind on B&B Inns - thanks strictly to The Waverly.

The room rates for mid- summer were very reasonable ($150-$190). The staff were incredible, the rooms sumptuous, the breakfast fulfilling and overall an absolutely splendid experience! I would highly recommend this inn to any couple looking for a romantic or recharging get-away.

We will definately be staying here on our next trip to Halifax.

I can't say enough good things about our stay at the Waverley Inn.
We stayed in a moderate room, and while relatively small, at $119 it's one of the most affordable rooms in downtown Halifax.
The staff were extremely friendly and personable, the continental breakfast (tea/coffee, juices, toast, raisin toast, bagels, fruit, cereals, yogurt, muffins, croissants, cheeses) excellent, and the bed comfortable.
Each afternoon and evening there was tea, coffee and cookies offered in the foyer, which was always very welcomed. In the sitting room, there were two computers with internet access; an added bonus.
The decor is Victorian chintz all the way, but feels quite glamorous as opposed to overdone. Antiques are everywhere, including your room.
I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else on my next visit to Halifax. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

We stayed here for one night before leaving Halifax, after returning from Cape Breton. Excellent location, clean, comfortable, very good value for the money. I don't think we would have stayed longer than a night or two however; it was a bit too small and cramped.

Just to add a "local" comment... we live several hours from Halifax and we've stayed at the Waverley probably ten times over the years. It's different, it's unique, it's special.

Yes you'll find strange arrangements of rooms, since it's been chopped, sliced, and extended over the years into the rooms it now has, but that adds a certain charm. The furnishings are fantastic... an Antiques Roadshow right in your room!

Over the years we've stayed in many of the notable rooms-- The Oscar Wilde (our fav, looking over Barrington Street-- though his ghost has fortunately never appeared), the Roman Sisters, etc. There are a couple of cubby-holes we would avoid, but most of the rest of them are fascinating.

The ability to make your own breakfast, read the paper, and chat with other guests while admiring the fantastic antique dining furniture is a morning treat, especially for an early riser like me, and being able to pop in for a snack during the day is great.

And Christmas! Fantastic Victorian decorations abound to make it a dream world!

If you want the stark white formula of a newer hotel, have it... the Waverley is special.

Thank you for your interest in the Waverley Inn. Our open air, off street lot provides convenient parking to the hotel. Our downtown location is just 5 blocks from the city centre and 3 blocks to the waterfront boardwalk. With limited public parking downtown and an hourly rate around $3 walking or using the city buses is far easier and more affordable.

Sorry but the inn does not have an elevator. We do have staff to help with luggage and if you have accessibility concerns we do have a number of ground floor rooms that you may request when booking with us. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
