The location of the hotel is brilliant and made even more so by having free parking to the rear, although you will need to check in to find the entrance. The room was large with a good, if somewhat dated, bathroom. Check in was great as we arrived around 12.30pm and our room was ready. The room was on the first floor and unsurprisingly in an historic building, there was no lift, but the stairs were quite wide so carrying the cases was not a problem. With covid the room was not automatically serviced, but could be done on request. Since we only stayed 2 nights we didn't bother. Breakfast offered was unusual with a pack provided on request with a choice of 5 items for $10. However, there was a convenient coffee house very nearby which we used both mornings. Overall an excellent stay.

Our room(302) was clean and spacious. The building and dining room were very quiet. Our dinner was excellent(Duck & Guinea) and beautifully plated. The crab cake appetizer was a better option than the charcuterie(if you choose charcuterie make sure you reserve some of the lovely bread brought to table after being seated). Desserts, while tasty, were a tad dry.Our server,Malcolm, is a real asset to Stories. The one thing I wouldn't recommend is the boxed breakfast unless you don't have time to find another option nearby. The staff were consistently helpful and pleasant. We look forward to a return visit

No elevator, no bar fridge, very small room, coffee maker didn’t work or air conditioning or shower. Absolutely no water out of shower! For $185 a night a total rip off. Staff was friendly and excellent location. So one star each. Cannot recommend this hotel!

The rooms seemed pleasant enough, but the $150 security deposit was unecessary, perhaps the owners thought guests might abscond with the small enough to fit into a coat pocket, LED TV, ( tiniest TV, in fact, I have seen in 8 airbnb's or hotels i visited in January) The worst part was a poorly identified ( as available for purchase ) food basket left in the room, perhaps by an owner inspired by visiting sleazy hotels in other countries. The overpriced food package should not be in the rooms ( food was left free of charge in all airbnb's I visited) as this invites abuse from owners wanting to 'treat themselves' to your securty depost. Will not visit this pretenscious 'boutique' again

Thank you for your review. Our snack and beverage selection is clearly marked as "for purchase". A typical hotel deposit is required when guests do not have a credit card. I think this review is a good illustration of the marked difference between hotels and AirBnB type arrangements.

we booked this hotel as the finale to a month long tour around the maritime s as the best for last idea... not!!!! no parking.. we were boxed in twice. they put us in a 3 story small room that you had to crouch to get in to bed.. the place was hot, then cold. very loud room... we had to bale from this place and stay at a holiday inn... very over rated place... please read the fine print on this property... bed was as old as the hotel.

Dear Guest Thank you for sharing your thoughts with other users. I regret you did not enjoy your stay with us. It appears you booked one of our "Petite" rooms. Please note to ask for our other more spacious Queen Rooms and Suites for a future stay. I hope you were able to find more suitable lodging elsewhere in Halifax. The location is fantastic: right downtown Halifax. That is the big feature. Also, parking out back is free. I wouldn't want to hang around in that parking lot at all, or go out there alone at night but otherwise, free parking at a downtown Halifax hotel is great. Its usually $25+. The building is... older. They say "Historic". That said, its clean, bathrooms are well maintained, and spacious. My biggest beef was: our first room wasn't done up, our actual room was facing the road the the snowplow went by a few times which ruined my sleep. That's why I take off a point. Also, stairs, stairs, stairs. My fiancee carried in the luggage and managed all the stairs. At that, you need two keys to get through the outside door, then the room door. And the stairs leading to the back, you hit you head, even if you aren't tall. So if you aren't able to do stairs, don't stay here. They had breakfast but we noticed it was picked over by the time we arrived. So we had juice and went on to Starbucks. I cannot comment much on the food options at breakfast. The price was very fair, again, especially for downtown Halifax. It wasn't my favourite hotel but in a pinch, I would stay there again. Its great for staying in downtown Halifax for sure. Otherwise, I'd probably do a chain over at Dartmouth Crossing and just drive into the city as needed.

A taste of luxury in an exquisite historic boutique hotel dating back to 1809! Ideally located in the historic part of downtown Halifax, step out the front door and you’re just a couple of minutes walk to Halifax Harbour and its popular scenic waterfront boardwalk. This beautifully refurbished hotel, includes many original furnishings, and all the amenities one would expect in a property of this caliber and much more. A lovely complimentary continental breakfast is served in the main dining room, along with free parking, wifi and more. For those of you traveling by train with VIA Rail Canada like we were, you are just a short 5 minute walk to the train station. This hotel is perfect for both business and pleasure travelers looking for a touch of luxury, history and convenience. We can't wait to return one day soon! We enjoyed our stay here very much. We came all the way from Ohio to Halifax for our honeymoon. For the most part, we enjoyed the hotel. It was in a good location, so we were able to walk to a lot of places. It’s right down the street from the waterfront, which is awesome. The staff was also very accommodating. There are a few things to consider, however. The first being that there are no elevators and lots of stairs. It was fine for us, but just keep that in mind if you can’t do stairs. There was also no way to control temperature from your room besides a fan or space heater. I noticed that my nose bled a little bit over the course of our stay from the dry heat. So that’s something to keep in mind. Free parking is also limited. We were there in November so we were never unable to get a parking spot outback, but the spots were really tight because other buildings are so close. Despite those little complaints, we really enjoyed our stay. Like I said, it’s just something to keep in mind. The hotel was very cute. The rooms and bathrooms were a little small, but we were on our honeymoon and 24 hours away from home, so we didn’t mind. We spent more time outdoors exploring. Would definitely recommend The Halliburton if you’re like us and not fussy travelers. But if you’re looking for something more roomy or no stairs, I’d look elsewhere. Our room was always clean and the bed made after we came back everyday. I also like the security at the hotel. You receive two keys when you check in. One is for your room and the other is for all the outside doors because they stay locked most of the time. I really like that considering all the foot traffic in Halifax.

This is a real find. The rooms are clean and well designed. The staff is very helpful and the free breakfast is great to start the day. I would highly recommend this hotel. The hotel is a series of old buildings but redone rooms are beautiful. Some of the rooms are up or downstairs.

We were here around the same time last year, and really enjoyed The Halliburton, so decided to stay again. So glad that we did! Our flight was delayed and we arrived after 11pm, however, there was still someone at the office so we could check in. Check-in process is smooth and quick. Helpful tip: they ask you for your license plate and make and model of your car so if you have a rental, make sure to write that info down before coming inside to save yourself the trip of going back out. We parked on the road outside. The hotel has a lot in the back, but if you have a large suitcase it is a bit of a treck, and parking is tight. Street parking is free on the weekends and holidays. If you do park out back, they give you a parking pass to put in your car. Our room was large enough for us, the bed was very comfortable and they provide all of the basic amenities such as lotion, shampoo and conditioner. The breakfast is served between 7 and 10 am. It is very good compared to most continental breakfasts. You have an array of different teas, fresh coffee, hard boiled eggs, hot beans, fruit salad, yogurt, bagels and bread to toast with fresh jams, cream cheese and peanut butter. There are some dry cereals as well. This place has a lot of charm and character. It's a beautiful establishment and all of the staff we dealt with were friendly and helpful. It is located a couple blocks from the harbor and within easy walking distance to many eateries and bars. There is a late night pizza place right on the corner close by. One of the best bars in the area called Stillwell is about a 10 minute walk away and it stays open until 2am.
