I’m of two minds, about our stay. Our room was a King, a good size, with a great bed. Linens were very nice. It had a clean mini kitchen with fridge, microwave and dishes, etc but a skimpy coffee pot and NO kettle. Bathroom was fine, but back of door had terrible water stains and paint peeling at the bottom. Nice big TV, and air conditioner. We loved the wood floors as they were exactly the same as our downstairs, giving us a homey feeling.

In an attempt to create a « boutique » environment, Hearthstone has decorated with a faux antique look. At first glance, it appears quite quaint, but upon further inspection the cheapness of the furnishings is apparent. If this doesn’t bother you, I would recommend this hotel. It’s proximity and easy access to many places is perfect. With the special travel discount, we couldn’t beat this price and would definitely stay again.

With COVID-19 protocols in place throughout the province, I expected stricter sanitizing and mask wearing once inside the hotel. There was no public access to a bottle of sanitizer in the lobby. I saw at least half a dozen guests not wearing masks in the lobby or hallways. I asked the Front Desk Clerk to remind checking in guests to always wear a mask once outside of their rooms, but I was greeted with total indifference. Tch tch tch.

Expectations were low booking as per some reviews. Expectations were then way beyond met. Out of 10 my stats are. 8 cleanliness, 10.5 value, 8.5 room, 9 bed and pillow comfort, 9.5 unexpected pub with super affordable prices and actually really good food.
It is an older place, so there are some issues mostly noticed we're the stairs. The decor is unique and cute. The sitting areas which we explored were comfortable and a good place to sit and chat with a friend. The overall rooms were pretty standard. The tv selection was very good, lighting was good, beds amazing, having a mini fridge, microwave and coffee pot were a plus. The bathrooms were a little small.
Overall given the price point I was extremely satisfied. Parking is a little slim but there is overflow across the street.
The free breakfast was very good. Keeping with the decor theme of the hotel it was almost overwhelming at first, but also very cool to just look at some of the items. Although the clock chiming in the hour scared the girl sitting next to it, but we did get a good chuckle.
The lady handling breakfast seemed a bit off at first, however I think she was just being polite and couldn't hear me as it was early and I was probably mumbling. After which she was joking and pretty funny and very friendly.
The check in was less friendly initially as I believe she was having some issues before we arrived. However from then on all the staff was very friendly and welcoming.
Honestly for the price compared to fancier more expensive hotels I didn't see much difference other than decor and maybe a pool? Oh and that you'd have to pay for parking. Compared to other cheap motels or hotels that are in the price range there's no question this is far superior.
Surprise factor was the mega affordable pub that was very good. If you stay here eat here, also the breakfast. The decor was a fun nice touch to explore.
I wish it would have been nicer out to check out the lake across the street.
If you like a nice affordable hotel stay here.

If you're posh and need to pay for parking and stay in an uber expensive hotels and can't handle some charm, maybe this isn't the right spot for you.

A joy to find a property that was neither cookie cutter nor customer service cool.
The staff were all super friendly and helpful. Traveling with a dog is sometimes difficult but if you have an animal this place is wonderful.
Breakfast was completely unexpected and I don’t know how one place can have so many condiments, preserves and variety of hot and cold offerings.
Beds were super comfortable and the pillows were heaven all four per queen bed.
Instructions for coffee maker would be a suggestion and the occasional wipe down or the baseboards in the bathroom and wipe down the walls which get steamy and streaky. The rest of the house keeping was right on.
Will make this my have to go to.
Thanks. So nice to find unique ( lots of vintage and antique decor.)

This property was outdated, need of repair and to have a deep clean. In our room, there was a puddy repair spot on the wall looked like was a quick job and not finished, the tub had rust around the drain, no counter space in the bathroom, terrible water pressure in the shower, someone's long black hair on the the new towels, the desk chair looked like it had mud allover the chair. The overall room needed to be dusted and a deep clean. The dining room was in a bar, which was dark and also outdated. Chairs were old and hard. Menu was handed to you on a mini clipboard. When leaving the hotel a guest was complaining to staff their shower wasn't working. To finish our stay, upon leaving two fire trucks in attendance with no audible alarms sounding. I would NOT RECOMMEND this hotel for anyone!

We found out about this place through Travelzoo and used a discount through them. Because of this the hotel treated us with almost disdain, as if we were less than worthy of good service. The hotel only had a handful of guests yet they put us in what was probably the worst room with a construction site just outside our window. The ‘manager’ Clair was actually arguing with me that it was Travelzoo’s problem that the shower and coffee maker did not work in our room. When I called to tell them about the shower she actually said ‘what do you expect with the discount you got.” She obviously knows nothing about customer service. Needless to say we will never stay there again nor will we say anything positive about it.

This inn is great value for your money. My room was very very clean. The bed was very comfortable with spotless linens and wonderful pillows. The room was huge. The furnishings were interesting and a micro wave toaster oven and fridge were in the room. It is literally right beside the Superstore. Parking is free and the location makes it easy to find downtown and the highway. When I remarked on how clean the room was I was told there was a whole new cleaning staff who were hired at a higher wage. I work in tourism so I know good cleaners and cooks are hard to find. Great management decision. If you do not need fancy just comfortable and clean this is a great spot. Staff were super and there is a grab and go breakfast included. Great value for money.

Staying at this hotel was one of the most unique experiences I've had with an accommodation. The building is old and the lobby smells of cigarettes upon entering. The historical artifacts and decor are beautiful but it has a creepy air. The staff were friendly. The room was large but felt dated and not entirely clean. Once settled in I turned on the tv and fireplace, charged my phone, and began using the microwave to heat up some food when all of a sudden the lights went out and I was standing in darkness. Apparently I had tripped a breaker which leads me to believe the electrical is not up to code. I inquired if this was a common occurrence and was told it wasn't. There was a drop of dried blood on the floor near the toilet, in the washroom. I was a little uneasy about using the shower. The water pressure was very light, the temperature kept rising and the nozzle was lose and felt as though it was ready to fall off. The location is close to shopping. I booked through Expedia and expected a complimentary continental breakfast as indicated however was told that feature recently was no longer offered. The guest attendant had a continental breakfast takeaway bag packed for me from the lounge. It was mediocre but consisted of a pre packaged carrot muffin with mold on it. The hotel is a little cheaper than most in the area but if you're looking to avoid the issues mentioned above, it's best to dish out a few extra dollars to ensure the comforts you pay for. It's a little unfortunate because I feel there is potential to make this place amazing with a few little tweaks. I am being generous in given this place a 3 star review.

We stayed in a king room. Comfortable, big bed, good sized room with TV, small fridge, microwave and toaster oven. There was also a love seat and 2 office chairs to use for watching TV. Flooring was a clean, manufactured wood floor, so easy to walk on. The bathroom, was small but clean; it had toilet, sink and tub enclosure (good water pressure for shower). There is 1 elevator for the 3 floors, with sitting areas on each floor, with table and seating; you could play board games or read one of the books. Easy check in, with breakfast bag in the morning (yogurt, fruit cup, juice box and muffin).
Reilly's pub had great food (sampler with wings, onion rings, mozza sticks and fried pepperoni) and a really nice bartender, Melinda!! Only down side is that there is very limited parking at the hotel, though they say we are allowed to park in the Superstore lot, across the street. Location really good, just off of Hwy 118 by the interchange and across from beautiful Lake Banook - great running/walking trail and plenty of world class rowing to watch! This is a great gem to stay at!

There’s a bad smell when you enter the hotel. We were in room 310, neither of the queen mattresses offered any support. I way about 170 lbs and my spouse 110, so we consider ourselves lightweights. You will find dust on the headboards, mildew on the bathroom wall and ceiling and the faucet on the bathroom sink offers little more than a trickle. There was no blow dryer and staff couldn’t help us until the next morning, even then it was complicated. The breakfast is a muffin, a fruit cup and juice. When we reported the state of the mattresses, we were told that we are the first to complain about the mattresses in that room. They promised to fix the faucet that day, but that never happened. Also, the parking lot was full, so we had to park at the nearby grocery store. On the plus side the shower worked really well, and the coffee was good.

I stayed overnight on Nov 14th in transit with my Kitten. We had a double queen room with microwave and fridge. Really near Superstore so if you don’t want to eat in restaurant you can grab something to cook in the microwave, cutlery and china provided.

Bed was super comfy and pillows beautifully supportive and cozy!

Decor was lovely, exceptionally clean and staff very welcoming,

Grab and go breakfast was great, fruit, yoghurt, breakfast bar, muffin and apple juice.

I was really impressed with this hotel and cost half the price of other hotels in Dartmouth.

Would definitely return and can highly recommend!

Thank you fir the best nights sleep in a while !!

Yes, we have stayed there with our dog before and they love pets! I don't even think there was a fee. Breakfast was very good and if there wasn't fruit, I am sure they would provide some if you asked ahead of time. They were very accommodating there! The restaurant on site is very good and very very reasonably priced!
