We got back from our trip to Blachford Lake Lodge a few weeks ago, and I still find myself thinking about the experience every day. If you've read the reviews or looked at the web site, you know it's a rustic, cozy, eco-friendly lodge tucked away in the wilderness far from Yellowknife and smack dab beneath the Aurora oval. It's...

We stayed five days and had two days of absolutely spectacular Aurora Borealis viewing. The lodge is 'eco' which means outhouses and compost toilets. We staying in a cabin, wonderful, rustic and very warm, the last week of January. The staff planned activities every day and Chef Blair did a great job with the food. If you want to see...

The location is fantastic, half hour by bush plane from Yellowknife to Blachford Lake Lodge with a landing on the ice. We were greeted by many friendly and enthusiastic people, given an orientation and shown to our rooms where the luggage had been delivered. We were there for three nights and were lucky enough to have a spectacular Aurora show...

My husband and I spent two nights at Blachford over the Christmas holiday and would go back in a heartbeat! What a wonderful place! The Cabin: We stayed in the Beaver cabin, an adorable little log cabin out in the woods. The cabin was perfect. It actually slept 7 people, so plenty of room for the two of us! The...

We stayed in the lodge during 21-24 August 2016. We could see very strong Aurora for 2 nights out of the 3 nights. This was the perfect timing as the children were not back to school yet and the weather was very warm. During the daytime, we wore short sleeved T-shirt to go fishing, kayaking and hiking. At night, we...

I came here in late August at the start of the Aurora Borealis season hoping to catch the Northern Lights at the lodge before the cold temperatures set in. My experience with the lodge, right from the initial email inquiry to the very end, leaving the dock, was just fantastic. Alice, whom I was emailing, answered all of my questions...

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this wonderful review. We appreciate you taking the time to come and visit us all the way in the remote wilderness of the Northwest Territories. We stayed for three nights. The place is definitely not as advertised, but it grows on you and we'd return. It is not a young persons' party spot - if seniors do not have mobility issues they'd enjoy the place. The staff are numerous, and go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. There is always a staff...

I would recommend traveling from across the globe to stay at Blachford. Very friendly staff, lovely accommodations (I chose to stay in a trapper's cabin), and wonderful food. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Blachford Lake Lodge, a family run business for over 30 years, is the only fly-in wilderness resort situated on Blachford Lake (60 miles south-east of Yellowknife). The 25-minute bush plane flight from Yellowknife is often considered as one of the highlights of a trip to Blachford. We pride ourselves on complimenting your northern experience with great food, a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and dedicated customer service. Our winter season (January to April) offers great opportunities to watch the aurora (northern lights), to go snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, ice-fishing or simply to relax in the hot tub.Our summer season (June to October) offers great fishing. Canoe or kayak under the midnight sun (June/July) or hike one of the many nature trails. By late summer (mid August) the aurora becomes more visible again and one can watch the northern lights being reflected in the water. Anytime, feel royally when you follow the paths that William and Kate walked during their Royal visit at Blachford Lake Lodge in July 2011. ... more   less
