The hostel is cheap and located close to St John's Centre. We walked everywhere from there. On the downside, its pretty small and not the cleanest. We had booked a particular ensuite room and had to insist on the reservation being honoured - seems they'd offered it to someone else too. That aside, our stay was fine. We ate out...

Great little hostel in downtown St. John's. The staff are great, very friendly and welcoming, and it's within walking distance from almost everything you need. Very clean, and homey. And awesome as you're staying in an old Jelly Bean Row house.

I love staying in hostels for the economy and community, however City Hostel in beautiful St. John's is not a place I'd recommend. I too suffered from an allergic reaction to mould easily seen in the bedroom and common bathroom. A house cat, allowed to occupy the common kitchen area, vomited while we cooked dinner. The laundry area was vented...

My partner and I stayed in a room there for one night, during which we both had such terrible allergies that we couldn't sleep. Apart from being an old, not well-maintained building (open the door of this room and you see the rotting boards on the balcony) it has an old, not very healthy cat. The night after we left...

One of St John's famous jellybean houses, so called for their bright colours. Clean rooms, comfy beds, hot showers and guest kitchen. Great, friendly, helpful staff. Central location but far enough from the nightlife to get some sleep. Great location for all tourist attractions and the climb up Signal Hill. The weather was hot and humid but fans were provided...

I arrived before midnight, when their office was closed, and was able to check in without any hassle. The common areas are clean and have all the standard hostel amenities. The bed was comfortable but it was too hot in the room, even with a fan blowing. Would be nice if they invested in temperature control facilities. My room was...

Very laid back small hostel on the eastern end of downtown. Situated in a street of jelly bean houses, it couldn't be better located. Small dormitories with shared facilities, a common room like a family sitting room and a small kitchen give it a homely feel. Great mix of guests of all ages. Met a Welsh man of 67 who...

I was pretty willing to overlook the not so clean rooms and bathrooms and jam packed fridge- it is a hostel after all- but they overbooked and put a mattress on the floor of our room. Not only did everyone in that room pay for a "4 person" room, there is NO space in it now, the only mirror and...

The staff is mainly constituted by "volunteers" that sometimes don't have much idea about their job. The ambience is friendly and there is always someone around for a chat and a beer. The downside are the common spaces that are too small.

Centrally located, and what seems like lots of beds. A relatively small kitchen but stocked with all the necessities. Friendly staff and free wifi. The only area I was aware of to relax was also the lobby, so it was kinda busy. Fairly clean and creaky mental bunkbeds.. Overall good for the city.
