Can't say enough about this wonderful hotel. Our room was comfortable, nicely decorated and spacious. The meals in their restaurant are to die for. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of St. John's and an easy walking distance to Signal Hill. Be sure to stop in at the Battery Cafe on your way!
We stayed 4 nights for a conference and it was great! Easy walking distance to the convention centre, surrounded by pubs and high end restaurants ( great pub & restaurant in the hotel as well) directly across from a shortcut to George Street. The room was very large, with a living room area that has a view of St John’s, an incredible bathroom with big freestanding soaker tub & walk in shower. Don’t pass this one up, you won’t be disappointed. Note there is no elevator, but a lift is available if required.
Our first night of our 2 week Newfoundland adventure was spent at Blue on Water. It was an auspicious start. A lovely young man at the bar checked us in, explained parking( not on premises but close by), and dealt with our bags. The room, though not overly large, was attractive and well kitted out. Nice large closet, bathroom with separate shower and tub, and nice toiletries. The linens and pillows were excellent. The real star was the restaurant. Though we'd made a prior reservation, we were surprised at how busy it was on a Monday night. Dinner was superb. Our lovely server suggested a good wine from Nova Scotia to accompany mussels, chowder and salmon and cod specials. We enjoyed a filling breakfast the next morning and chatted with the very pleasant Natalie who gave us some great suggestions for future meals as well as ideas for shopping. Her recommendations were excellent and we were able to purchase some lovely handcrafted gifts. Highly recommend hotel and restaurant.…
I was a bit apprehensive when I realised that Water Street was closed to traffic. But the staff made it easy. We loved our room, which despite the location was quiet. It was an oasis within easy walking distance to everything.
We stayed at Blue on Water for a week. We wanted to stay in St. John's and use the hotel as a home base. It was a wonderful place to stay, eclectic, the staff was incredibly friendly, the beds comfy and overall, just great. It really is a hotel/bar and restaurant all-in-one.
St. John's was quite booked up when we were looking for accommodations on this trip (Come Home Year = no room at most inns...), and we feel quite fortunate to have stumbled upon this hotel. The hotel is centrally located, and we were greeted in a friendly fashion and checked in by Sully (I believe he's the owner) at the bar downstairs. Our room (deluxe double) was beautiful, large, and reasonably priced. You have to let yourself in and out of the hotel with a key after hours, but there is a security guard onsite. We're glad he was there when we arrived late one evening, as there was a sleeveen hanging around outside who approached us and made us uncomfortable. The security guard saw us messing with our keys at the door and let us in, so just make sure you test your keys before you leave so you know which one is for the outside hotel door and you don't have to fumble when you arrive back after hours. This was a great hotel and we would stay there again.…
What a great hotel and bar and restaurant!! We were 4 couples (cousins and our spouses) in our late ‘50’s. First timers to the Rock! We stayed 4 nights at this boutique hotel and met Sully and the amazing crew. Breakfasts were delicious every morning! We had 10:00 am breakfasts - I believe the kitchen opens at 9. We also had a late night Creme Brûlée snack which was voted best dessert by our group. One of our group fractured her ankle on our first day and the Hostel staff were beyond incredible in helping out. Sully rescued us (ie came himself and picked us up when we called the hotel for a referral for a taxi service) at the tourist sight where the injury occurred and he personally picked up a pair of crutches at his brothers house to loan us !!!!! Our rooms were lovely and unique and quiet. The hotel is in the middle of all the action so the quiet rooms were a huge bonus. One of us had the double Queen room - it became the meet up room. Amazing space and an amazing bathroom space!! The bar part of the hotel was always buzzing and popular ! All the staff were super friendly and helpful and went out of their way with our fractured ankle situation. There were crutches involved and a wheelchair. The kitchen stepped up for late night meals, wine and even ankle fracture help after a day and night in the emergency department ! Our group would highly recommend this hotel!! Note: when checking in, you check in at the bar. LOL - that set the fun tone for the trip !!…

We had a wonderful stay at Blue on Water! The hotel is located in the former Popular Clothing Store on Water St. which was owned and run by my grandparents and uncle. It was wonderful to see a plaque dedicated to my uncle in the front hall. Would have liked to meet the owner as he and my uncle were good friends. Our room was perfect and beautiful - really gorgeous and a lovely design. King sized bed! It faced the side of the property and was very quiet. I was a bit thrown off with the parking situation and the fact that the hotel is accessed through the bar/restaurant, but honestly, once you are in, it's so charming! The staff were all wonderful to us, and we enjoyed meeting the chef and his wife - we shared some good stories.
Blue on Water is a lovely Boutique hotel. Rooms are unique and individualized. Pros: - unique & individualized rooms - luxurious rooms - right on main Street so convenient for shopping, restaurants, night life - friendly staff - restaurant on site Cons: - no on-site parking (but close by) - inconvenient for check in & unloading - especially for July & August with Water St closed off We arrived to find no parking to leave car for check in & unloading. Drove around block and finally called hotel. Manager was very apologetic and said if I drove up to front he would unload luggage and take to rooms while I parked car. Peter was amazing - helped my elderly father to his room and looked after luggage. After I parked car and returned to hotel he ensured we both had everything we needed in our rooms. Rooms had all conveniences we needed. Restaurant had a great breakfast menu. I had room 201 which looked out on Water St and was over bar. I didn’t find it too bad for noise (more background noise, but some people might be disturbed by it. All in all a lovely hotel and one I’d gladly return to!…
