Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed here in September of 2022. The location was great for us. We like to walk to explore and the location was great for that. Close to hiking trails and the restaurants and bars in the downtown area. The room was clean and comfortable. Service was good. We opted to include breakfast which was a good buffet.

Hotel's Favourite
Had a one night stay last weekend and really felt welcomed at the Sheraton! It's been a while since I last stayed at this hotel. Staff was awesome. Check-in was smooth and all in all was just a great stay! Nice acknowledgement from the staff for being a Titanium member. Will be back in the spring!

Stayed 2 nights at Shearton St John's. .Location of hotel is good provided that you have a car driving around the city. It is quite a walk to Water Street where there are a number of restaurants . Upgraded to Executive floor. . Room is of decent size with 2 queen beds. Breakfast and afternoon snacks at the executive lounge is decent. Nothing to complain

There was something off about this hotel. We stayed here twice in September. Felt like they were still trying to recover from the Covid closure. Room cleaning was sparse. We had to ask for coffees/ creamers each day. Restaurant/bar was unattended a few times. Rooms with nice views had surprisingly small windows. The “round” window rooms had only that small round window which made the room feel small. Variable pricing each day was hard to swallow. Rooms had that old feel. Front desk people weren’t particularly helpful although all other personnel we met were extremely friendly.

I attended this property Sept 15-19th 2022. Overall the hotel was good. Good location, clean but a bit tired. The concierge Brenda was outstanding and helped with directions, recommendations etc. she is a VALUABLE ASSET to this hotel

Hotel is clean but dated; especially the washroom. The tub had mouldy spots, the shower curtain smelled, there was NO towel rack for towels, and there was no fan. The usual things like a safe in the room was not available— safety deposit boxes at the front desk was simply inconvenient . Another disappointment was that there were no laundry facilities at the hotel which was very disappointing. I We will not stay there again.

Apparently if you are partly/fully hosted guest, EVEN if you cover some extras personally, they do not recognise your loyalty (mine: 918 total nights stayed in Marriott's, Ambassador Elite Status, and Lifetime Platinum) by crediting you nights stayed!!! Two weeks away from home/family and not rewarded ...not amused! Now thinking very carefully about in which hotel chain we hold our international events/hosting guests.

The hotel is as well appointed as can be expected given this has long been a landmark in the city. Everyone smiles , says hello, and look to enjoy their work. Where this hotel fails to meet expectations is in the attention they give on bookings vs. staffing levels. There were multiple buses that came through and there were 4 weddings per day. This stressed their staff to beyond breaking. We arrived at regular check in time and had to wait 6 hours for our room to be ready. As an elite member of the Bonvoy family I have sampled many levels of service, but always at least good. This was bad. The staff know it as when someone checked in and the room was ready they could be heard joking that the person should buy a lottery ticket. Also when we finally received our room, they sent a second family to our room about 5 minutes later.

Responded 26 Aug 2022
Dear C-GCDN, Firstly, I would like to say thank-you for taking the time to write the review and that we do value all feedback from our guests both, positive and negative. I am certainly disappointed that your stay was not all that it could have been. I trust you will accept that the difficulties you experienced are certainly not reflective of our normal standards. I hope you choose to give us another chance when your travels bring you back to the area. We would welcome the opportunity to make your future stay a more memorable one.

Hotel itself is fine. Rooms are nothing special. As others have pointed out, the lack of fitted bedsheets is a problem for restless sleepers. The real issue is the parking lot. "First come first" but frequently full (or overfull) with wedding guests, and hotel staff will do nothing about it. Furthermore, there were two cars in the lot broken into during our 7 days there (thankfully not ours). We also had run ins with multiple homeless folk asking for money aggressively right outside the hotel door.

Been here a few times over the last 4 years and find it to be a great little place and have many happy memories. One of which is definitely the maple syrup on the bacon, at first I thought it a dreadful idea but it works. But drew the line at syrup in the coffee
