I stayed here while attending a conference in downtown Victoria. The location couldn't be better! It's close to downtown and the ferry express bus. I stayed in a private room. It was tiny-- enough space to fit the bed without any room on either side, and no window. If you just need a bed, and don't intend to spend a... More

We were here for a short stay, and I thought the rooms were quite small. It was perfect for a few nights, but if you were staying for 3+ days I would probably consider another hostel. No free breakfast, but they do have reasonably priced options. Conveniently located in Victoria. Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. The building and rooms... More

Wwoofing in a hostel is just the perfect opportunity to explore a city for very cheap. Instead of spending a lot of effort and time looking for job and accommodation you can more easily enjoy your stay in Victoria at this hostel, work 30 hours a week and get your bed and even food and drinks for free. I traveled for a year around Canada and I must say: the Ocean Island Inn is one of the best Hostels I ever been! Located in the hart of Downtown it isn't far away to cheap supermarkets and other attractions. The staff is very friendly and help you in any questions. The Hostel is very clean, including the toilets and... More

Thank you for your comments; we’re glad you enjoyed your stay! I’d like to add to your room tip: the people in shared rooms may be quieter, out of respect for their roommates. But in general, if you’re looking for a quiet night (in a private room or a shared room), go for a room on one of the upper... More

Stayed here with the BF for 2 nights. First up, Tim ( I think) was very helpful but I think he gave us a more expensive room than what we asked for (and we paid for it). As with the rest of the reviews, the room was tiny - and we were given a mid-size! The room could definitely be... More

Thank you for staying with us. I asked Tim about the room upgrade, and he said your room was upgrade at no extra charge. The price you paid was the price of the original room you booked, not the price of the upgraded room. Sorry for any confusion. We’re glad you appreciated the cleanliness of the building. We have a... Super small room. Couldn't even walk around bed. Only 1 X 0.5m of free floor space. Wasn't possible to have two people in the room at the same time. Everything else was great though

I stayed in a 6-bed female dorm for a week. A week was a bit too long, but I managed. The rooms are SUPERtiny, so make sure you don't bring a lot of luggage. The bathrooms are private, which is good, and kept clean at all times. I stayed in a room facing Blanshard St., which got quite noisy as... More

Thank you for your review! We're glad you enjoyed your stay. Some of our rooms are very small, it's true, but we made them small on purpose to keep prices as low as possible. You can get a private room at Ocean Island for the same price as a dorm bed at some hostels, and it usually costs only a... More

Felt like I was staying in a club where the band plays every night, but stops sharp at 12 midnight. Very comfortable elegance of a 1900's building with neat radiator heating. It has that European feel, if your looking for that special something (ie. Its just a bit off), you might not find it anywhere else. If you hate sterile... More
