We chose the Sylvia as other family members had stayed there previously and enjoyed it very much. We stayed 2 nights, went to Victoria, then returned to the Sylvia for 2 more nights in May because we liked it so much. Rooms are clean, quiet and as we stayed on the 2nd floor, easily accessed by stairs or elevator. We...

I liked the fact that you returned for two more days because you enjoyed the hotel so much, very high praise thank-you. We are a pet friendly hotel and have been since 1960, I believe are the only hotel in Vancouver that does not charge extra for pets. The live music in the lounge is very popular with Guests and...

I stayed at the Sylvia Hotel for 4 nights in April with my traveling dog Jenny. Loved the location because we were on the beach on English Bay and only minutes away from Stanley Park where we took many hikes. The Fish House, our fav restaurant, is also close by as well as many other stores and eateries. I was...

Thank-you for spending 4 nights with us. I enjoyed reading your review. My staff all work hard to make our guests experience a special one so thank-you for mentioning it. I will post your comments in the staff lunch room. The location of our hotel is mentioned often by most guests because of the convenience and the beach across the...

My friend and I stayed one night at the Sylvia. Everyone was sweet and accommodating. We stayed in the Melville Room which was part of the library there at the hotel. Unfortunately guests were loud and having a party until late (in the library) and even though we were not sleeping, or trying to, the constant noise was irritating. No...

The Sylvia is a grand old hotel right on English bay, an easy walk to Stanley Park, Granville Island, downtown, and several interesting restaurants. I would say for anyone expecting a cookie cutter hotel, please just stay in a cookie cutter hotel as the Sylvia May not appeal to everyone. But for those who appreciate history, quaint elevators, turning in...

Thank-you for your comments and I can tell by the words you choose that you do appreciate the heritage feel of the hotel and you are correct we may not be for everyone, however I do believe that everyone appreciates great service and we do offer that. Our location is popular with guests new to Vancouver and those that like...

This beautiful hotel was recommended to us by a friend who lives in Vancouver, as THE place to stay. How right he was! What a lovely family friendly hotel. Very traditional and filled with lots of stories and well loved. We had a good sized room, very clean and well presented. The hotel was in such a lovely location by...

A well written review in my opinion. it mentions all the things that future guests would like to know and that you mentioned the Food and Beverage which we are also very proud of. Book Sunday brunch early every week to avoid be sold out. The views are great over looking English Bay. You are correct, there are lots of...

Stayed one night. Directly on English Bay Beach. Room was very small, but they warned me of that. Bed was relatively comfortable. Restaurant & bar very good. Access to Stanley Park and mass transit was good.

This is an old hotel in a good location, at the beach, near Stanley Park, and close to the people I visit in Vancouver. It is adequate, and I will stay here again. The bed was fine, the bathroom had plenty of hot water, and the streets are quiet at night. But it is getting run down: drop ceilings that...

Thank-you for your comments about your stay with us. I know that everyone ahs an opinion on how to keep the heritage feel of an older property, thank-you for yours. I feel it is just as important to have a safe environment and great location, a great bed and good service as well. I was happy to read that you...

I have had the pleasure of visiting the Sylvia many times over the years. If I was asked why? The answer is: it's unique, there is no other hotel in Vancouver and beyond that offers the guest such an experience. I note that some guests make the comment that the hotel is a bit 'worn'! Well considering it's over 100...

Very high praise from a regular guest, thank-you and sorry to see you leave. Wow you mentioned that you have been a yearly guests since 1950's, we must be doing something right to earn your business for 65 years. That is something and I do appreciate your business and loyalty. The kitchen units are very popular for guests that stay...

I would stay here again. Super location from which to enjoy the best of Vancouver. Close to town, Stanley Park and beaches. The rooms were a bit worn and not very sound proof (at least ours wasn't). The service was excellent. This is not the luxury gig, but a safe bet for a really decent location.

Thank-you for taking time to write a review. We are a heritage site and been in business for 104 years. It was an old apartment building and so many of the rooms have shared walls, I rarely get a comment about sound proofing so I will look into which room you stayed and see if there is anything that we...

We always stay at the Sylvia Hotel when we go to Vancouver. You cannot beat the location! Walk out the front door, cross the street to the beach, turn right and you are on the sea wall that goes around Stanley Park for six miles. Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
