I would stay here again. Super location from which to enjoy the best of Vancouver. Close to town, Stanley Park and beaches. The rooms were a bit worn and not very sound proof (at least ours wasn't). The service was excellent. This is not the luxury gig, but a safe bet for a really decent location.

Thank-you for taking time to write a review. We are a heritage site and been in business for 104 years. It was an old apartment building and so many of the rooms have shared walls, I rarely get a comment about sound proofing so I will look into which room you stayed and see if there is anything that we...

We always stay at the Sylvia Hotel when we go to Vancouver. You cannot beat the location! Walk out the front door, cross the street to the beach, turn right and you are on the sea wall that goes around Stanley Park for six miles. If you head into the park by just turning right onto the street, you will...

I enjoyed reading your review and by the sounds of it you covered the whole city from the Sylvia Hotel, the location is great for all the reasons you mentioned. Our Guests come back year after year for the experience. I hope my staff exceeded your expectation and that you felt at home while you stayed with us. I hope...

The Sylvia is one of my favourite places in Vancouver. We stopped in there a few weeks ago to have some drinks and appetisers. We had a great time, the appetisers were tasty and pretty well priced, they had some drinks specials too and of course, the view. The Sylvia is located in a perfect spot, we watched the sun...

I agree with you, nothing better than sitting in the lounge, restaurant or bistro enjoying a meal and watching all the activities right outside our door plus the views of English Bay watching the sunset. We have live music on Wednesday and Thursday nights after 8:00 which also popular. Join us for Sunday brunch and sit on the patio get...

The Sylvia Hotel is amongst one of Vancouver's most famous historical buildings located just steps off the amazing English Bay. The hotel has been renovated but still very much feels like an nostalgic older spot. It's classic and solid, but not a posh spot like the other Vancouver downtown properties. I like nostalgia and love to imagine it in its...

You are right, we are a heritage site since 1975 and our location is right on the beach close to Stanley park and shopping. Thank-you for mentioning the food and beverage department and our eggs benny ( a very popular item on the breakfast menu, on Sundays we go thru about 650 eggs in 4 hours at brunch). We are...

When I was a child in Vancouver I always imagined that the ivy covered Sylvia Hotel must be what England looked like. For my recent too-brief visit I was excited to finally stay at this iconic English Bay denizen. I was not disappointed. For starters the location is perfection (and I grew up in Kitsilano - arguably the best neighbourhood...

My wife and I found this hotel or Bring Fido and such a great find! Really nice older hotel next to English Bay. We always have a hard time finding hotels to bring our 3 dogs but this pace had restrictions or fees and put us in a room away from other guests so the barking wouldn't be an issue....

Welcome from the USA, yes we are a pet friendly hotel and have been since 1960. I believe that we are the only hotel in Vancouver that does not charge extra for pets as most hotels do charge $25-40 per night per pet. Welcome back after so many years. Thank-you for taking the time to write a review and comment on the level of service and friendliness of my crew. Sweet older hotel, a little dated, but totally fine. Staff was helpful and polite. The location can't be beat! We walked out in the morning, crossed the street, and took the most lovely walk along the water and into the park - it was perfect!

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
