2nd time we have stayed here and will come again. This time we got a great deal through BeVancouver. Room was excellent and we also enjoyed the breakfast and spent time in the recently renovated lounge. The location is perfect right on English Bay by Stanley Park. Good for walking. Nearby restaurants and bars offer lots of choice. The help...

Superlative location (buskers on the beach)! Lots of tradition, lots of views. If you stay here, you won't want to stay anywhere else in Vancouver. BTW: excellent restaurant. only setback is slow elevators, but what the hey.

The Sylvia has it all: a great location, a charming ambiance, the oldest cocktail lounge in the city, the perfect location, and nice rooms. The Sylvia has a real sense of elegance to it, which I think many newer hotels might lack. Very charming, the Sylvia, and highly recommended.

We had a queen room in this older style hotel. Staff were efficient and very welcoming. The location is close to Stanley Park, Davie Street, English Bay. A short walk takes you to the False Creek Ferries for drops at the Granville Market and locations inside False Creek. Good restaurants, ice cream and bike rental locations are nearby. A very...

Thank-you for your comments and taking the time to write a review on this site. Our location is often mentioned because it is perfect for being away from the downtown core but close enough to walk anywhere you need to go in the city or it is just a short taxi ride. The staff were all genuinely friendly and welcoming. Our room, a twin overlooking the bay, was great. We found the beds very comfy and I loved the soap - minor detail but I liked it a lot. Negatives would be that the bathroom was just ok and the bath was extremely slow to drain. Plus the electrics looked a bit...

This hotel was a delight! Super clean, the best location. Right across from a beautiful sea wall for strolls and a great restaurant that we ate in twice. The view from the restaurant and lounge is beautiful, even in the rain. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We didn't spend a lot of time in our room so I...

The Sylvia carries so much history, it should sink into English Bay, which it grandly overlooks. This hotel has quirky spaces, and old fashioned rooms. It also has a fabulous lounge and restaurant, very reasonable room and parking rates, and a delightful helpful staff.

This was my third stay here, just the second time for my husband. Husband had appointments at St. Paul's Hospital, and it was a great excuse to book The Sylvia. When I made the reservation, I was pleased to find out that they offered a medical rate. This is not something they do all year long though. At least I...

This is an historic property which I think first opened in 1928. It's a classic old hotel oozing with history and charm. There is also a newer wing. The rooms are varied, everything from single rooms to full suites with kitchens. We've stayed here many times and tried different rooms each time. The location couldn't be better, overlooking English Bay...

Sylvia Hotel proudly stands a short two minute walk from sandy beaches of English bay. This is a heritage building days of old and new flows and blends while staying at the Sylvia Hotel. Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
