I have always wanted to stay at this hotel and finally got the opportunity. We stayed for 3 nights in Feb 2017, stayed in one of their suites that had a view of English Bay (be sure to rent a bike and bike all around the city on bike paths). I did not care for the suite layout (bearing in...

Thank-you for staying with us in February this year, I wish the weather was better for you. Yes we do have a great view of English Bay in some rooms. Our rooms are not all the same in fact most rooms are different from each other, so in the future maybe try another room to see if you like the...

This was my first time to Vancouver and the hotel chosen couldn't have been better. Right off denman street and blocks from Robson. Restaurants everywhere and the easiest bus access I have seen . The old world charm, amazing ambiance , great music at nite, and right on English bay. Looking out the window to the massive ships was a...

I love staying at the Sylvia when i'm in Vancouver. The location gives easy access to Stanley Park, Robson street and Granville Island. The rooms are clean and the beds and linens are sooo comfy! The staff are very friendly and accommodating. They have a garage for parking at an extra small fee ($18.00 C at this time). We didn't...

I have been staying at this Vancouver hotel three or four times a year for 40 years, and now have enlisted many friends and relatives to stay there as well. Rooms are often small but well appointed. There is so much to do in the West End that you won't be needing a large room, though some are available. Don't...

I appreciate your loyalty and thank-you for introducing the Sylvia Hotel to your friends and relatives. We do have 120 rooms all of different sizes and shapes as we are not a cookie cutter hotel where all the rooms are the same. We try to stay true to our heritage (105 years old). Thank-you for your comments about your experience...

We travel to Vancouver quite often and our favourite place to stay is always The Sylvia. It remains true to its history and although the hotel is not luxurious, it is charming clean and completely comfortable. Photos line the walls of the beach and the hotel in the 30's. The restaurant serves a very good breakfast and the staff there...

I've Often walked by this beautiful building but never had the pleasure of staying there until this last weekend. Lovely traditional style hotel. Lots of old style features, including a proper key! We really enjoyed our stay. Comfortable bed. Small but spotless bathroom. Excellent location on English Bay with great views. Lovely bar and restaurant again with great views. Live...

Thank-you for your great scores and rating. I enjoyed reading your review, you mentioned the things that most travellers want to know. I agree with you, the views are great and with the beach only steps away. Our live music is on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sunday nights. We look forward to your next visit.

The Sylvia Hotel is an affordable historic hotel in the west end of Vancouver. Great location near the water and walking distance to both David and Robson streets. Only drawback was having to leave your key every time you left. When you return, you have to wait for and available clerk to obtain your key.

Thank-you for your comments about your stay with us. Yes we do have real keys and for security reasons we do not want the keys to leave the hotel property (which is how we have been doing it for over 105 years, and it works) I am sorry you found this process as a drawback. I would also like to...

I stayed st the Sylvia for 2 nights in November. I liked my room and it is an excellent value for a hotel room near Stanley Park and the English Bay. It is not a luxury and mixer hotel but it fits the need for a short stay. The linen were clean as well as the bathroom. I recommend it....

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
