Peace and quiet is the first thing that comes to mind from our stay at the Rimrock. The front desk staff were very pleasant both at check in, as well as when we made other inquiries. The room and view were both exquisite. Tranquil and...More

We come every year at this time for a couple of days before the busy holiday season begins. It's great to be a little away from the townsite - quieter and more picturesque. We like to come in this "shoulder" season - after the busy...More

Amazing views at the Rimrock I loved the surroundings. Staff was nice and friendly. Rooms were clean and the restaurant was delicious. Spa service and staff were OK not as welcoming as other spas. Perhaps just a off day.

You can walk on some trails in the woods nearby, and two major attractions (Banff Hot Springs and the Banff Gondola) are also within walking distance. There’s a short walk around the top of the Gondola station and more trails through the forest on the mountainside, but I don’t think they’d be the kinds of scenic day hikes you’d be looking for.
Don’t worry about accessing nature though, even without a car you can take a bus into town (runs every 20 mins, free, stops right out front of the hotel) or rent a car (highly recommended) to access countless spectacular nature hikes and excursions in Banff/Lake Louise/Jasper parks. Even walking along the river in Banff town and the trails around the town itself are amazing, and as mentioned that’s an easy bus ride or 5-min drive. Parking can be a minor annoyance in Banff in peak season but it’s usually free (or cheap) and not a big deal.
Consider the Fairmont for luxury and closer access to town and nature, but I preferred the Rim Rock rooms to the tiny Fairmont ones, so unless they’re similar in price the Rim Rock is definitely best in Banff (for luxury resort/full amenities hotels, anyway).
