The rooms are spartan but clean. The site had security and the rooms are enclosed so no one walks in who is not allowed. Just what was needed for a good nights sleep before getting on the road again. The facility is a bit worn, but there was nothing broken. The staff were very friendly and helpful

At first it took 3 people to find my reservation and check me in. I speak fluent Spanish and the two ladies at the desk were afraid to even try (assuming I only speak english) so they brought out a bilingual manager to do the check in.... Nice guy... Our first room had a puddle of water on the floor from condensation in the ceiling from the AC unit. they changed room for us right away... Then I asked for 2 extra towels and 4 pillows (they didn't have enough towels for 4 guests as the reservation stated clearly. The pillows were very small and only 2 per bed.... Most better quality hotels include 4 pillows per bed...anyway, when I asked I was given 2 towels but told I had to deposit 80 pesos more per pillow to get them...I told them that I already had a credit card on file for charges... They didn't delivery the pillows and an hour later when I asked again they said they were told to not provide extra pillows until I had increased my deposit.... I went to the front desk and then they ran my credit card for 1000 pesos (about $60)... I couldn't believe it! I told them I could buy 4 NEW pillows for that ... What were they worried about... that I am going to steal low quality pillows! They had my credit card... Unbelievable..... I further explained (All in Spanish) that their goal should be to provide quality service to their clientele... Even the manager just smiled, agreed with me and did nothing about it.... Later, I was asked by another employee about our experience....I told them we would never be back... Heck...for the price of the pillows, I could have stayed at the Lucerna! I should have! I only gave it 2 stars because it was clean... very hard beds were very uncomfortable.

After the first stay, we felt confident to stay again. Well... the place was brimming with teenagers there for some kind of sports tournament. They were running around, shouting, singing, chanting... it was horrific. The first room we were given, the air conditioning panel fell off so we asked to be moved. This was our salvation as they moved us to a corner room out of the way where the kids had no need to run. I’m happy to say that at some point the teachers sent the kids too bed and none of us heard a peep all night, but it was a long few hours until then and you had no chance of using any facilities except the restaurant... ...which is awful. It’s a very overpriced buffet with a turnstile type entrance/exit where you are watched entering and leaving so you don’t run off. Had some bizarre chap on a keyboard. It was all a bit surreal. The food trays weren’t topped up and some foods were dried up after being sat there so long in the heat. Some dishes never got replaced so didn’t get to try some things we wanted to. The food I did have was probably of some of the worst quality I have ever eaten in Mexico. It we also one of the highest priced too! Just shows how two visits can be so different!

I loved this place back in 2006. It was opulent, quite and a good value. But I've watched it slip away over the years. It's still OK but I only stay here when traveling with colleagues who request it. And this review is sparked by a crappy sleep last night. And I have 2 more nights to go. I'll be brief... 1. A plastic sheet under the sheet to protect the mattress. Obviously whoever made this policy decision has never slept on a plastic sheet. 2. The too soft mattress that easily compresses to the wooden platform below. 3. The noise. I don't know how management can control this. Ignorant people who get up at 5 am and shout across the parking lot to remind buddy to get the bag left on the counter (get it yourself clown!) Or other ignorant people chatting and smoking cigarettes in the parking lot at 2 AM. Or the idiot next door who falls asleep with the TV running at aircraft level decibels. Or the high pressure toilets being flushed at all hours on all side of your room. Or the clown upstairs who grinds a chair across the tile floor or drops his boots on the floor to put them on at hours when others are trying to sleep. 4. an internet code that has to be entered every day to re-initiate it...not a biggy but irritating. 5.no lamp nor light switch beside the bed...only the one at the door to turn the lights on/off. 6 Original taps that cannot be turned off completely. It's the little things that add up to a choice of a different hotel. And some at a better price.

Absolutely nothing happens in Hermosillo, so we chose a hotel with a pool. But the pool looks nothing like the pictures. It is basically in the middle of a parking lot, there are no sunchairs and its filled with screaming children, who don't seem to be staying there. The personnel hardly speaks any english and it took a lot of convincing for them to help us with a busticket out of there. On the positive site it was chaep and gave a very authentic motel feeling like a place you would see in a crime movie.
