This superb tea plantation house belongs to a descendent of a well known Sri Lankan family is in a unique setting away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. The owner, Padmini, has retained the original style of the property and she offers a true Sri Lankan experience including very interesting menus and the oportunity to partake in cookery lessons.... This is a magnificent mansion built 100s of years ago. Simply WOW! We are so lucky to be able to experience it. Not to mention the food, so gourmet. So authentic to the region here. Kids loving it too.

We stayed at Elpitiya Walauwa in December 2013. A lovely gorgeous walauwa in a beautiful estate. It is perfect for a retreat from all the madness of a city yet very accessible by bus, train or car. Our host Mrs Padmini is a very gracious person, very willing to attend to our many questions about the estate, its stories and... More

I had the opportunity to stay for several days at Elpitiya Walauwa in August 2014- this was a truly unique experience. The hotel is a traditional colonial house with a spectacular history. Tireless and assiduous Jaya and the rest of the staff made sure we felt and were being pampered all the time- from breakfast to dinner we were given... More

We had a lovely few days here and it was our base for the Perahera. Jaya looked after us very well, providing wonderful Sri Lankan food and local advice and he took us for a walk around the village. It was the one place in Sri Lanka that I really didn't want to leave. You simply have to relax here,... More

We got information and experience of Sri Lanka during the last couple of centuries and got an introduction to the tea production. This chance to get information of the Sri Lankan history, traditions and food has enriched our stay in the country. We thank the hosts for the warm welcoming!

I can only add my voice to the raves below, this is a unique place. A small heritage hotel in Mrs Padminis old family home it's like stepping back in time.
