This is a great little town full of choices. The Hotel Sands is quite simply put, poor value. Our room was deplorable! Old uncomfortable beds, plastic lawn furniture, bubble gum stuck to the head board, missing window pane, holes in the doors. So this boils down to perceived value. We just moved down the street to a much nicer room...

What can you say about the Sands? for some reason I really like this place, For the last 20 years I have visited this place when in Barra or Melaque but never stayed here, don't mind that it is old, the Rosita in PV is old to and I like staying there but at the Sands a little upgrade would...

I was desperate. Stayed here before. well. .. It's almost 50 years old. and looks like NOTHING has been done since. God Bless the owner Martha. She has owned it since it was built in 1959. and her 2 sons help (manage) it. They are very nice people. BUT...the rooms! discusting, the shower black with caked mexican mildew. all the...

This hotel is a staple of Barra, the once happening hot spot has suffered through some tough times but is now looking up once again. The rooms are dated but reasonably priced and talk of room renovations is underway and recent reno of pool bar shows promise. The young and energetic new staff has brought an aire of freshness and...

I was desperate. The rooms are bare bones. No hot water. or TV. But it is "charming" I'm sure at 'one time' this place was a swinging resort. Now it is in dire need of repair. Re-bar and exposed wires. The pool was green too. But there was air conditioning, such as it was. And the owner is a jerk,...

I found this hotel looking around for a better place than where I was. I was on the ocean side but when all the construction started at 7am til 7pm. everywhere to fix the hurrican damage I had to find a quieter (and cheaper) spot. I loved the lobby and gardens here! The pool was the best I had seen...

This hotel gives great value for money, even if it has really seen better days. The pool got progressively nastier in terms of hygiene the longer we stayed and the more visitors who arrived (we got there before Christmas, and as more guests arrived just after Boxing Day, it got to be pretty opaque looking--probably no chlorine, or at least...

We checked in, nice enough staff. Rooms were old but ok. Pool was old and the surface very slick. Our kids still enjoyed their time at the pool. My wife went to the bar to order drinks and was was back after 15mins without drinks. Simply could not get the bartender to serve her. I watched and realized he was...

We love Barra and one of the reasons is how lovely and inexpensive it is. We have stayed at the Bungalows Marvida before and I would say they were a little bit nicer. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath "suite". The rooms were very clean and tidy with kitchenette, dishes, etc. Towels were very old as were the mattresses,...

“You need to get them to show you the rooms before you move your luggage. Some should be closed down because of mold on the walls. Some are pretty good. Mostly the better ones are on the sunny side and up on 3rd floor.”
