I stayed in this hostal for almost a month, the last month I spent in San José studying in the University of Costa Rica. The view of the place is amazing, and having breakfast there everyday cheers you up from the beginning of the day. There is also a small yard with and hammock where you can relax and read every day. The host is really welcoming and friendly, and he was always willing to help me with any of my doubts: He has tons of information about the city itself and about really nice places that you can visit in Costa Rica. The location of the hostal it's really close to the UCR, so it's perfect for students. Evenmore, it's also really close to the Outlet Mall, a key point for lot of buses to move inside San José. Also, just in front of the Outlet Mall there are always buses that take you to San José, where you can get a bus to go almost anywhere inside Costa Rica. There are supermarkets close to the place and, evenmore, you can find during the morning farmers that sells their products in vans behind the Outlet Mall. In summary, if you are going to stay in San José, this is your place.

I spent 3 nights at Casa Areka and had a wonderful experience. My flight was delayed and lines at the airport were super long, so I arrived late at night. Michael, the owner, was very accommodating and waited up late to check me in without a problem. I spent a majority of my time at Casa Areka simply relaxing and catching up on much needed rest before heading on a 7 month journey and felt very comfortable the whole time. The balcony upstairs has a spectacular view, and is great for enjoying the beautiful weather while talking, eating, or relaxing. The area downstairs is nice too. There was even a guinea pig living down there! Casa Areka is in walking distance from the main street, but it is far enough away from it so it isn't too loud. I was also able to use the fridge and kitchen to cook and store my own food, which was nice. Everything was very clean and tidy. The shower was great also. Had hot water and the water pressure was honestly better than mine at home. Breakfast was included. It was simple toast with butter, peanut buter, jelly, fresh fruit, and coffee. Only downside is that the walls are a little thin, so noisy neighbors can make it difficult to sleep. But, for the price, great service, and cleanliness, you can't go wrong staying here. Highly recommend for anyone visiting San Pedro!

I can say that Casa Areka, really a very nice place to stay in San Jose. At night you can relax without any problem as it is located in a quiet and safe residential area of the city. The hotel is very clean, large rooms, attention is very helpful from Michael, the assist and guide you in everything you need for your stay in the city. Details to be considered for improvement: it gets better wireless signal to the rooms, and lock the bathroom door was broken and would not lock. You may also improve a little breakfast, having more options table bread with butter or jam.
