The website looked great, the place looks great. The night we went wasn't busy. Service was not friendly and food was not great, let alone for the money they charge. Hopefully just a one-off bad night.

This hotel's restaurant punches well above its weight. The owners have translated from Notting Hill and the food is excellent, it exceeds the standards one could expect in this remote part of Devon. The menu choice is not huge, which evidences care in its selection by the chef and the wine list is long, interesting and unusual. Service was attentive and friendly but not overwhelming. It's not cheap, but with food of this standard it's entirely justifiable. If you need a treat, go for it. Or even if you don't.

There is a small menu of absolutely delicious food, beautifully cooked and the level of unobtrusive service was second to none. The tables and chairs were a bit stark and perfunctory, and they could improve the background music, hence the 4 rather than 5 stars, but with spectacular views over the bay, the food and service, it was a great evening.

Very warm greeting, food delicious, wine crisp and light, fabulous cozy table in the sun, very attentive but not intrusive young waitress…. Perfect lunch! Thank you so much, well done… look forward to returning and highly recommend.

We booked for lunch at Hope cove house after reading a review in the Sunday Times. The hotel has new owners and has had a stylish yet relaxed makeover. Lunch was possibly as good as best of the week (a superb meal at the Mason’s Arms which has a Michelin star). There was nothing remotely posh about the food. Just top quality ingredients, expertly cooked and served by lovely friendly charming staff. And all very reasonably priced. We had snacks of anchovies with rosemary oil (addictive) and slices of saucisson. Then a roasted peach and feta salad (yum) and mains of cod and squid which were just so delicious and also GENEROUSLY portioned! House rose was excellent and a fruit tart and coffee finished off a relaxed 2 hour lunch which we then felt obliged to walk off for tue next two hours. Booking the hotel is probably quite hard - they only really have about 8 rooms As staff currently occupy the others but lunch should be do-able if you book ahead. Do book!
