My husband and I travel a lot and have been here several times! Amazing resort and the best service you will ever have! Breakfast and lunch is great! I’m sure dinner is too but we usually venture off for dinner so I can’t say. Luis and Ivan were awesome waiters at the pool our drinks were never empty and Enriqueta at the premium lounge is so sweet and always gave us amazing service too! They work so hard!!! We will keep coming here and can’t wait to come back! Thank you so much Barcelo!!!
We recently returned from 6 nights at Gran Faro Los Cabos. This property is well located to shops, restaurants and other services - all within walking distance. The town of San Jose is ~20 minute walk. The staff of Gran Faro was amazing. We upgraded to Premium Level and were taken to a special lounge for check-in. There you can find snacks and a full bar of premium liquor. Our room, #2191, was on the first floor, ocean front, and steps away from the private Premium pool and sun deck. Rooms are large and well-appointed. Bed comfortable and the strongest A/C we've ever experienced in our many trips to Mexico. The bathroom is also large and great water pressure. The staff is exemplary and a special shout-out to Ivan at the Premium pool area who never missed an opportunity to take care of us. Covid testing was arranged at check-in, was well handled, with quick turnaround of results. The only area of improvement is the food. In the Italian and Mexican restaurants the food was OK; nothing special. However, at the buffet, the waffles are to-die-for as was the picadillo. While they didn't have a big wine selection, what they did offer was good. The resort is immaculate and safe throughout with temperatures taken upon every entry into the hotel and at every restaurant, including sanitizing hands. Despite the pandemic, the Gran Faro staff made us feel like things were back to normal. And that contributed to a very relaxing stay. Thank you!…
We ended up in this hotel because our flight got cancelled. So the airline has put us here. When we arrived we couldn’t believe how nice it was! We loved it so much that we decided to extend our stay for another several days. The food for lunch was amazing- they cook the whole red snapper for you! Great variety of desserts and other meals. Breakfast was good too. The dinners were awesome- we loved the Mexican restaurant and ended up going there 3 times! They make huge portions (be aware, don’t over order:)) and my boyfriend loved their margaritas and other cocktails. I love champagne so I was drinking that all along lol The champagne is local, I think, but it was Okay to drink on vacation. The pool service was great by the preferred pool area. Make sure you break small bills to tip the waiters. They are extremely nice and helpful. The sushi restaurant requires a resi waay in advance, we didn’t have it, but came there late, around 9.30pm hoping we will get seated. We got seated but our order took like 40mins and it was quite chilly (I think) In the dining room. Also, the lights in there are pretty obnoxious cuz they are very bright and there is no intimacy.. But overall we loved it all and we are already planning a trip back!!…
The Good: The restaurant staff and the pool The restaurant staff are very kind and eager to assist. Yuliana in particular is great and helped us track down our bottle of tequila we had left at our table at lunch the day before. There was a bit of a language barrier at times when it came to ordering but they tried hard and were very nice. The pools were pretty nice. Not too crowded though very shallow. There was a swim up bar and lots of lounge chairs available. Two jacuzzies: one family, one adults only. One salt-water infinity pool which was nice. One pool had a volleyball net. The Bad: The front desk staff and the rooms The front desk staff on the other hand aren't very helpful or accommodating at all. I had requested at time of booking a couple months prior to our trip a room with a king-sized bed and (preferably) a view, mentioning that it was a special occasion as we would be celebrating my girlfriend's birthday while we were down there. However, when my girlfriend and I checked in to our hotel, we were given a ground floor room, facing an alleyway with two double (not even queen-sized) beds that were cemented to the floor and couldn't even be pushed together. When we requested a different room, we were told that the only rooms available with a king sized bed were ones with an ocean view and since we didn't pay for an ocean-view, there was nothing they could do. Basically they let a room stay empty rather than be accommodating, even though I mentioned we were celebrating my girlfriend's birthday. They were operating at limited capacity due to Covid so they easily could've made it work if they wanted to but they didn't want to. They said come back in the morning with our luggage and they *might* have something for us but if they did, we wouldn't be able to know for sure or move our stuff in until 3. They ended up finally switching us to a ground floor room with a king-sized bed but it was not a good way to start our romantic birthday getaway together. Similarly, when we asked them to search the lost and found for our tequila bottle, they didn't even bother looking and just told us it wasn't there. You could tell the front desk people didn't enjoy working there and didn't care about helping or accommodating guests. As for the rooms, they were nothing special and definitely weren't 5-star quality. A lot of the furniture was worn down, chipped, cracked etc. The beds consisted of a sheet over the mattress (not fitted) and two linen sheets, that's it. No blanket or anything like that. The mattress was also incredibly firm, like laying on a carpeted floor. I woke up with an incredibly tight back ever day because of it. Our toilet leaked one day too and left a bunch of water on the bathroom floor. The nightstands had granite or marble tops that weren't actually secured to the nightstands themselves, just laid on top of them. I've definitely stayed in lower rated hotels with much nicer rooms. The Ugly: The food and drinks The food and drinks were pretty bad all around, even for an all-inclusive resort. Every drink was way to sweet so we had to order doubles just to make them drinkable. The lunch was good the first day but very subpar everyday after. The breakfast was awful. I've never had worst French toast. The pancakes were burnt, the bacon were thin and limp and the chocolate milk was warm. It was terrible. They advertise multiple "real" non-buffet restaurants but only one ever seems to be open and when you call to make a reservation, the front desk tells you they're all booked up but when you walk by it's largely empty or they're accepting walk ups. (Again, another example of the poor customer service provided by the front desk.) We ate at the "Italian" restaurant on site our first night (I use quotation marks because half the time it's a Mexican restaurant apparently). The food was okay, not great. The plating was appealing but the food itself lacked seasoning and was nothing to write home about. The service was good but very slow. The tiramisu dessert was one of the driest, most unappealing things I have ever put in my mouth. One bite was one bit too many. We tried multiple times to get reservations at the sushi restaurant they apparently have but it was closed every time we tried. We were told it is only open on Sunday and Wednesday. The Sky Bar was closed due to Covid apparently. All-in-all, Barcelo Gran Faro did not live up to its star rating and was disappointing overall. If you are looking for an all-inclusive hotel with 5-star, accommodating service, good food, comfy beds, and multiple restaurant choices, Barcel Gran Faro is definitely not for you. I would not recommend.…
The staff can be kinder, they have restrictions for dinner, you have to stay longer than 1 week to be able to try the specialities restaurants. good variety of food, but boring to have breakfast and lunch at the same place everyday. the beach is dirty, many cockroaches, not much to do about it, but there are horses by the beach now and then, should not allow to let them be there if not gonna clean what they leave on the way (poop). the activities doesn't start in time and the daily activities sheets are not updated, I was there for my bday and they did nothing special for me, even when i let them know. As usual, they are more focused on foreigns.
