I stayed here as it was convenient for where I was working and the reviews looked OK. On check in I was given all the information I needed so OK so far...........on entering the hotel building there was a damp stale smell as if the building had been empty for an extended period. Room 4 was large enough but the room was filthy (see pictures). Admittedly I didn't say anything but whoever had made up the room surely must have seen!! Bed linen was clean and the towels huge but the mattress must be ancient, when lying down I immediately rolled into the middle and it was far from comfortable. I won't stay here again I'm afraid however close it is to work!!
We were going to a party in a nearby village so needed somewhere close to stop over. We tried the phone number for the rooms all day before finally getting through to them around 5.30, with just 30 mins to go before arrival. The room is old fashioned, basic and the bed is not comfortable. However, it was ok for what we needed and we would stay again if visiting the area. We were taken to our room on arrival and given a complimentary drink which was kind. At £70 for the night, have stayed in better places for this price but was convenient. This hotel was easy to find, quiet at night and great to have a bar and food available. Large comfortable room and beautiful bed. Great night's sleep. Clean room, bathroom could use a little maintenance, staff very friendly and help yourself breakfast was handy.
These comments are solely for the Horse & Groom Hotel and not the attached Thai restaurant, We stayed here for a few days with other couples in August for a nearby family gathering. The rooms were large enough but all furnished differently and somewhat strangely. Seems like they filled the rooms with whatever furniture was available. Our room (# 21) certainly could use some maintenance and TLC. There is no real breakfast offered by the hotel but seems like groups can make their own toast / cereal breakfast for £2.50 pp. It was OK but don’t get excited about the Hotel
Friends stayed at the hotel so we decided to try the Jasminum for a meal for the first night. Well we all liked it so much that we booked for the next two nights as well. For vegetarians there were choices of Quorn, Tofu & Cashew nuts to add to the Thai, Chinese or Thai Curry meals & for the non veggies you could add Beef, Chicken or Prawn. I had Thai, Chinese & Thai Curry & enjoyed all of them. All of us really enjoyed our meals & the decor fitted with the Thai theme very well.
