we only stayed one night ( wish it was more) and had an amazing time. the locals were so friendly and we were made to feel right at home
the rooms are modern, clean and quite big and the have that amazing view of the sea . breakfast was beautiful and the service top class .
i can't wait to go back !
We were 'greeted' by the hostess with a "yes" as I said my name she marched off with a "follow me", left our menus at the table and walked off. Not the best of starts at all! Our server however was so pleasant and we discussed she should be greeting customers rather than the woman who was there! (Receipt said Aoife so thank you if that was you)
Being seafood fans we were excited by the menu as it boasts many options to suit the discerning fish lover much so we ordered three starters.
The prawn and smoked salmon starter was so disappointing as tiny frozen shrimp were placed on top of slimy salmon with the tiniest amount of dressing. The crab claws were really tasty and the huge amount of pâté and two rounds of brown toast were also good. I headed off to use the bathroom before the main however after 5mins of standing outside the door the woman who was leaving informed me the toilet was blocked and not flushing. I left and returned to my table.
The main courses were cooked well but again, literally no flare in presentation just a piece of fish on a plate and mash in a bowl beside. The dishes passing us to other tables looked so impressive we were gutted with our choices.
The hubby went then to use the facilities and also returned unhappy as the bathroom was filthy and we decided to pay and leave. All in, it was very disappointing and sadly we won't be back.
When we arrived we expected to stay in a "Standard Double Room - Annex": the term annex means a building directly attached. When we arrived we were told that we had to follow the owner, 3 kilometres away... and we were brought in the middle of nowhere in a little modern new built house in the middle of a field. Probably one of these little houses they rent weekly in the summer time. After driving for 4 hours I was exhausted and SO disappointed... this is not how I had imagined my romantic weekend... The owners offered to drive us back and forth to the main hotel as we wanted to go to the local pub... but we were driven back by the restaurant staff who served our dinner a few hours before.... the room was average and dusty. def not worth the money we were charged for it. We felt we were lied to as the hotel was probably full when we reserved and they put us in an "annex room" which was NOT an annex at all... the owner even called it a "satellite". I was very sad by the whole thing and it really annoyed me to pay for this "fiasco" of a weekend... this unfortunately gave us a bad taste of Donegal... even though it is so beautiful!
I would recommend this hotel and ist restaurant but NOT the annex...
"Ask for a room overlooking the ocean. The view would cost you three times the amount if you booked it here in Maine where we lived."Read full review
