I spent a few days with my wife at Casa Malca for new years eve. Infrastructure is ok, but lack several requirements to be considered a 5 stars hotel. As an example of basic stuffs as no hair dryer at the bathroom and no water available at the frigobar. The AC was leaking and it didn't work normally during our stay. With all that and much more, I would be fine, but the service was HORRIBLE, breakfast was ok but the employees were lazy and not polite. Pool service was even worse, it took 30 minutes to bring a coke and almost 2 hours for a spicy tuna roll. On my last day, I asked for a water, and well, I need to quote him: "do you really want it? it has been a busy day for me and I am tired to come and go to the bar to pick up things for everyone", his name was Daniel, and he was absurdly rude during our entire stay. For sure on December 31st, it is a busy time in Mexico, even tough it was only 15 tables and more than 20 waiters, anyway I never got my order refused by a waiter because he was tired. Front desk and concierge were useless, every time I asked for anything, they would come back with more problems than solution. I have been to several 5 stars hotel in the world, and this one would be at maximum a 3 stars hotel because of the worst service I have ever seen in Mexico.…
My wife and I have traveled world and stayed at variety of resorts and hotels. Casa Malca beach is one of the best in world. Service from local workers is outstanding . Friendly and always willing to help. Breakfast is incredible too. Rooms are spacious but spartan. These elements of the stay were world class. Few of the things that drop rating are as follows. We booked months in advance with rates that were based on small deposit but guaranteed with credit card. As date of our stay drew closer we received email indicating we must pay in full or lose our reservation. Wasn’t handled well but we complied. No appreciation for us paying in full extended. Maintenance issues with room. Our room 307 had significant plumbing issues from day we arrived. Shower and sink backed up within seconds. On our second day after quick shower water came gushing back up drain flooding room getting our luggage wet. We just stopped using shower last day to avoid potential flood as issue was never effectively addressed. We are well humored and went with this too but no recognition or apologies from front desk upon checking out. Food for lunch and dinner is expensive and not great. Far better heading to ARCA or Hartwood. Also important to realize Resort is at end of beach drive and is relatively dangerous walk to local restaurants due to narrow road and crazy drivers or taxi ride. Overall it’s beautiful resort and worth a stay but don’t think we will return based on our experience as many less expensive resorts surround Casa Malca . …
$650+ nightly room. Thousands spent at this resort. My fiancé and I were stopped on way out after already charged for our checkout. Halted for a dirty white bathroom towel!! Demand I pay $795 pesos ($30). Low quality towel may I add. Also a towel.... Something meant to clean our bodies with and ends up on room floor more than anything. Upgrade those, they suck, Not worth $30 even. Back to the point; Spent thousands at this hotel and they grind me for a damn $30 towel!?? I don’t care about the money. It’s about the principal. That $30 towel just cost them thousands from us ever returning or referring anyone. Dear management: was that white $30 towel really worth pissing off a guest as they walk out the door? That $30 towel cost you thousands. Throw it In bleach, wash it and boom, fixed. 🤷🏼 . I have worked in the marketing industry for 25 years. I know how important retention and service are for the hospitality industry. I am not an annoying guest that complains a about stupid thing things online. Rarely find any need to ever give a bad review. This was just over the top ridiculous and deserves a nice shout out. I’ve tracked 13 countries and 250+ days of travel this year alone. I am familiar with hotel policies and have been lucky enough to see the top resorts this world has to offer and most unique experiences of the 1%. Never once charged for anything like this. Incredibly disappointed. Great way to send off your guest. Take your $30. Won’t get anymore of our money.…
Stayed 4 nights in the Junior suite Thanksgiving weekend and it didn't disappoint! The room is amazing with high ceilings, really cool art, A comfortable bed and an AMAZING shower. If you are looking to party this isnt the place to be, however if you are looking for tranquility and a true paradise experience this is it. Jonathan at concierge went out of his way to make sure we got the best of Tulum and he was really great. I will never forget laying down on Cabanas late at night star glazing, truly breathtaking!
There's a lot to love about Casa Malca. There's also little things that just make you scratch your head. I would go back for sure...if I found a better rate. The property is gorgeous. Right on the beach, beautiful setting, super chic. And the art...it's what it's known for and it doesn't disappoint. We loved walking around the property and just checking it all out. My favorite was returning home at night after dinner and taking it all in, whether that is looking at the beautifully lit art or stargazing from the beach. It truly is gorgeous and a place you can go to recharge. For a luxury resort, and for what they charge (at least in the late November timeframe), I expected more. I would expect restaurant staff that attends to your needs versus you having to seek them out to get what you need. Same with the beach waitstaff. I would expect bikes that aren't ALL broken (save for two of them). I would expect rooms that had a dresser to put your clothes away, or in absence of that, a luggage rack. Or how about a blow dryer and basic amenity kit in the room? These seem like basic things for even a mid-tier hotel, yet they were lacking here. But that said, the staff overall was very friendly, and again, we had a great time. The location is great, towards the end of the strip but still accessible to it all via taxi, bike or long stroll. We just had higher expectations.…
