We visited here recently during the second week of our kids spring break holiday. It was our 4th visit in 2 years. We love it this much! The service is second to none, we have struggled to find amazing service outside of Asia, but this hotel has it and then some. They excel at remembering guests and then delivering personal service. If there is any hint of a problem they are quickly on it and trying to resolve and then surpass. An example of this was when my youngest son (age 5) borrowed a spade from another kid and then broke it. We then tried to replace it by buying a new one from the hotel shop, but they'd run out. The hotel was very busy (I think running at 80% capacity restriction). One of the senior managers / directors eventually got involved and personally resolved it by finding a spade for us so we could give it to the upset child. And then giving our child a pool inflatable to use to cheer him up. Above and beyond! We stayed for 7 nights and were in room 510 (a 1brm suite lagoon view but beachside). Stunning views and incredibly close to beach, pool and kids club. Several highlights of our week were; * dinner at La Ceiba - highly recommend for a wonderful way to enjoy Mexican food, excellent wines and meet other guests (perhaps do early on in your stay). * dining at the Banyan Tree - and taking the hotel boat over - I believe there's a lantern lighting ceremony at 530pm (check with hotel) we missed this but would like to do again. *the spa - it was our first time enjoying a massage there - we both loved this experience! And booked the private bath time beforehand. * new games basketball / chess / football courts!! brilliant * new kids bikes (and even helmets provided!) Only (and this is incredibly minor) frustration during our stay was the reduced peloton bike - they have only 3 and were down to 2 as 1 broke during our stay. Which meant we only got to use the bikes once. It would be great if they could get more.

Room Tip: for family - choose the 1brm so you get more space, lagoon view is fine, but try to get beachside.

Hotel's Favourite
We booked our New Year’s week stay at the very strong recommendations of our travel agent and a few friends. Our high expectations were exceeded on every key dimension - service, food, facilities. Service - From airport pick-up to drop-off, throughout the stay, the team greets you by name and goes above and beyond to predict and support any needs/wants you may have. Some anecdotes include cold beers in the car on arrival, remembering your favorite orders and seats at the pool and each restaurant, dozens of personal touches and amenities (e.g. complimentary champagne delivered to your room while you’re getting ready for dinner, monogrammed pillow-cases, complimentary luggage packing so you can enjoy your last evening out). Most importantly, senior management is present and visible throughout the property and throughout the day, constantly following up (e.g. “How was your spa appt?” “How did your guests like their dinner last night?”). A non-exhaustive list of folks who made our trip exceptional includes Denisse, Frank, Daniel, Carlos, and Alexis; not including distinctive senior team as mentioned above. Food - We’re picky New-Yorkers and always a bit weary of resort food and beverage offerings, but were hugely impressed by everything we ate and drank. Highlights included more authentic and refined Mexican offerings at Al Fresco, tacos at Aqui Me Quedo (both the shrimp and ribeye tacos are life-changing), and the special La Ceiba dinner where one dines in and from the hotel’s garden. Of course, tequila is never in short supply and if you’re keen to learn about obscure and special producers the team is eager and well equipped to guide you. Facilities - Property is extremely well capitalized and maintained. The rooms have recently been fully remodeled and are modern and lovely. Gym, spa, pool areas - all fantastic. Two additional notes: 1. We were there for New Year’s Eve and the hotel’s celebration was magical, including beachside fireworks and live music and a festive parade in which each guest could participate. We normally avoid huge parties but this felt intimate, well-curated, and most importantly quite fun. 2. From a COVID-19 perspective, the hotel is very safe (e.g. staff masked at all times, guests masked except for while sitting at table/beach, everything sanitized, dining well spaced and outside, each guest suite its own standalone villas). In summary this is truly a world-class and exceptional experience; we are already planning our return visit.

Responded 20 Jan 2021
Dear 360_degrees_traveler, We are very grateful to your travel agent and friends for the recommendations because if it were not for them, we would not have the opportunity to thank you for this exceptional TripAdvisor review! It means so much knowing that your circle, and now you, have so much faith in us. It is our privilege to host you in our home and exceed all expectations! Your high standards, keep ours ever higher, so thank you 😊 We love our New York guests! And are lucky to have many loyal New Yorkers returning to us year after year. We always appreciate your knowledge, feedback, and taste! Our culinary team puts a lot of time and effort into creating a menu that not only highlights the specialties of Mexican cuisine, but also showcases the fresh and local ingredients in original and classic dishes. And yes, when it comes to tequila or mezcal the team will never hesitate to share their favorites with you! Many thanks for your full overview of the property grounds and facilities. We are happy to know you enjoyed the special touches we had prepared for you throughout your stay. We really appreciate your taking the time to recognize several of our team members and the efforts of our management team. It was very thoughtful and means a great deal to the team! Rosewood Mayakoba is a magical place and there always seems to be a bit more magic around the holidays! It is wonderful that you were able to celebrate this New Year with and even more so that had fun and felt safe. How lucky are we to now have you as a part of the Rosewood Mayakoba family! We are so excited that you have already begun planning your next trip to see us and cannot wait to be together again in your new casa Mexicana. Muchas Gracias,

What if it’s not as good this time around ?That was the question my wife asked as we flew to Cancun. Maybe our trip last July was a mixture of right place and right time to escape the pandemic. That trip was perfect. We needn’t have worried. The Rosewood Mayakoba team not just kept the same standards we had loved before but completely surpassed them. Truly is a magical place. I am not sure if it’s training or just they hire the right people but without exception the service is spectacular. Not in an over the top way. Truly like staying with the nicest and kindest hosts. I couldn’t fault the place. The food was excellent. The kindness of all the staff was amazing. From our butlers to Leadership like Jose Maria and Christian who made the trip so great with the evening at la Ceiba. My adult children didn’t want to go back and neither did my wife and I. I love Rosewoods but this is the best as far as service. They handled the covid testing to return faultlessly and their concierge at the airport made sure we had no problems.

There are some resorts for which people will travel and traverse great distances to visit, and Rosewood Mayakoba certainly fits that description. Daniel Scott and his impeccable staff have a great deal of which to be proud, for they execute an utter masterpiece on a daily basis. This is no small task, and it is the staff of the Rosewood Mayakoba who create the separation between this resort versus others. Too many resorts in the region lack a true sense of place, but not here. Rosewood Mayakoba intertwines a gorgeous setting with the deep and rich culture of the Yucatan Peninsula, and it shines through with their cuisine, cocktails, and warm, genuine smiles. I look forward to returning, next time with my children, to further explore one of the great cultures of the world at the 5-star Rosewood Mayakoba.

Other reviewers have done an excellent job describing Rosewood Mayakoba’s unique villas, exceptional restaurants/dining experiences, over-the-top spa, beach/pool facilities, etc.—I can confirm that they are all outstanding, among the best I have encountered. However, the most challenging thing for a five-star hotel to get right, IMHO, is the staff. To a person, Rosewood Mayakoba’s staff is the best I have ever encountered. Some other reviewers have singled out for special recognition certain employees by name. I could also do that, but choose not to, because that would be unfair to the numerous other staff members I encountered throughout my stay whose names I never learned. Every single employee I met was not only highly competent but demonstrated a great attitude—you could tell they were proud to be working at the property and truly enjoyed their jobs, especially taking care of guests. I can’t say enough good things about the Rosewood Mayakoba and recommend it without qualification.
