We stayed at Mahekal Beach Resort for three nights in September 2013. While the resort itself was nice at first glance, the villas are pretty old and a bit filthy. I was supised not to have a bathtub, only a shower. In addition, we lived in a villa that was close to a bar in the neibouring resort and they...

Greetings to Texas, Thanks for writing a review and sharing your opinion with other travelers and us. None of our rooms have bathtub, except for those additions included on the renovation plans that will offer plunge pools at some of our villas. We are glad to read you liked our beach, being on the north end of Playa gives us...

My mom and I booked a last minute trip to Mahekal for my birthday. We chose this resort because of their October special, location and because my Mom had been to the resort when it was the Shangri-La Caribe. It was a fabulous week stay simply because the service is so wonderful and the location is perfect. Thought they are...

We stayed here when it was called Shangri-La Caribe, so it's been a while, but I still think about it as one of the most fabulous places we stayed in Mexico. Even though it was November -- the rainy season -- we still had a great time. The bungalows and rooms were all great and comfortable. Each porch had its...

Unfortunately the hotel is too much like a building site to really enjoy the fantastic location. The peace and quiet of Saturday and Sunday is shattered on a Monday morning (7:00am) by the builders who start work again. The beach is wonderfull and regularly cleaned, but the sunbeds would benifit from being replaced too.

Greetings from Playa del Carmen, thanks so much for taking the time to write your opinion. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Yes, some units were under renovation in the past weeks. But now, they are ready and look amazing. Major remodeling works will begin around May 2014. We are glad to read that you enjoyed our beach, we believe...

We spent 10 days at the Mahekal, it was absolutly wonderful. The hotel is very quiet, no activities except lying on the beach or getting a massage, which is great if you are looking for some peace and quiet. If life gets too boring at the hotel you can always go down to the 5th Avenue which is just a...

My husband, two year old son and I stayed at Mahekal Sept 28-Oct 3rd 2013. We had never been to this part of Mexico and were hoping it would be a good place for our toddler. I can't tell you how wonderful a time we had! The staff in the hotel and restaurant remembered our sons name and always went...

Could not say better things about this resort. I decided on Mahekal as our destination wedding site based on the excellent reviews on tripadvisor and I could not have made a smarter choice! We invited 30 people down for a week and our wedding was right in the middle of it. All of our guests thanked us for choosing this...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Mahekal Beach Resort is a legendary resort village located on 800 feet of white sand beach in the heart of vibrant Playa del Carmen. It has 198 thatched roof, palapa-style bungalows within steps of Fifth Avenue, the celebrated entertainment, shopping, and restaurant district of Playa del Carmen. The thousands of loyal repeat guests at Mahekal Beach Resort describe it as magical, memorable, and authentically Yucatecan. Our style is friendly and relaxed, a unique Caribbean experience where you can rock gently in a hammock on your private terrace and enjoy undoubtedly the best beach in Playa. Our guests love the fact that we have never compromised our truly unique ambiance and style. In keeping with that style, our rooms do not offer televisions. Instead, they feature original, brightly colored, Mexican tile bathrooms, private terraces with hammocks for siestas and star gazing, and locally-crafted Mexican wood furniture in an outdoor seating area where you can enjoy our magical sanctuary. The Resort offers meal plans that include breakfast daily and lunch or dinner. This choice gives our guests the opportunity to explore the many dining options in Playa del Carmen. ... more   less
