We just got back from the Occidental and it was so much fun. You should be aware that the resort is a little different during the pandemic, which we were notified of prior to our trip. The main things you might want to consider if you're traveling with a family: 1. The kids club/daycare is closed. They do some kids activities by the pool, but the full daycare is closed. You can still use the playground, but don't plan on leaving your kiddos for the day like we were. 2. Because of social distancing requirements/capacity limitations, most of the private restaurants are fully booked. We only ate at the buffet, which was still amazing. If you want to eat at the private restaurants, book it ASAP when you arrive. 3. Since they're not at full capacity, some parts of the resort are closed off. 4. Expect to respect the resorts Covid regulations for mask mandates, social distancing, and temperature checks. Highlights of our trip include the amazing staff who were so attentive to our crazy toddler and of course the beach/pool. Everyone working at the Occidental are SO NICE and work so hard. Shout out to Darwin who seemed to be working 24 hours a day to provide hilarious entertainment to the guests. Thanks, Occidental! We'll be back, <3

I can’t say in words how wonderful my experience was at this resort. The number one thing was the staff. They were all so incredible and friendly. Especially Margarita, Carlos, Miguel, Alonso, Luis, Crystal, Antonia and Blanca. All the staff were always wearing masks and the resort is one of the cleanest I have ever had the pleasure of staying in. Due to our COVID situation, staffing was limited but they never stopped. Always cleaning and serving and always with a smile. The bartenders were very fast and would make suggestions. There was never an issue with lines, beach chairs or reservations. Each night, a different specialty restaurant was open to accommodate the reduced staffing and bot did they work hard. The servers never complained and worked harder than most restaurants I have been to. The grounds are spectacular and are constantly being worked on. We also loved that they did COVID testing right on the premises and we had our results in 3 hours. I highly recommend this resort!!! Thank you to everyone at Occidental Cozumel for such an amazing vacation!

We have stayed at many all-inclusives and honestly I wouldn’t even necessarily call this THAT. We arrived at 4:30pm and after a long day of traveling, we were starving. Restaurants are closed until 6 pm. So we go to our room, freshen up and head to the poo/beach. The beach is beautiful, I’ll give them that. Figured we could grab a snack and drink there. Bar by the pool closes at 6pm and there’s no food there. So we head to the buffet restaurant, the only one open. Food was edible but not good. Most of the food was just warm and you can it sits there for a while. Nachos were soggy, tortillas fall apart. Went back to our room as we prefer to have drinks by ourselves in a balcony/patio. Looked at our room fridge, 1 modelo, 1 bud light. We called and asked for more to be delivered. About an hour later, they show up with another 2 beers for the night. Room service is also extra. That has never been the case at any others. The next day we found out the specialty restaurants are based on the number of nights staying. That isn’t in the hotel info anywhere. After much discussion, my husband and I decide we want to switch resorts. We ask to speak to the manager twice and can’t get ahold of him. Third times a charm, we ask him if he’s willing to let us cancel the rest of the nights and we will go somewhere else. He’s not, but said he was willing to fix whatever issues we had. They can’t do much about the food, so we ask that they please stock our fridge. It did not. We decide to just suck it up and bought our own beer to drink in our room. We had our second reservation for our specialty restaurant on our final night. Husband and I get all dressed up for it, go to the restaurant, it’s closed! We go to the front desk because surely we made a mistake. He looks at our sheet, and says, “oh yes, we made a mistake, it’s not open today” that’s it. No apology no fix. We ask if we can go to any of the other ones, but he says no they are all full. All in all, we were hugely dissatisfied with this hotel. That’s what I would call this. It would’ve been ok for a hotel but horrible all inclusive. The room was decent, most of the staff was friendly enough, and the grounds were nice. Food is a huge part of the experience for us and It was just edible. Nobody went above and beyond.

La Careta went above and beyond our satisfactions. They treated us like royalty Rogelio, Eolit, and Miguel were amazing. They prepared a special dinner for us and it was by far the best we’ve ever had!
