Would stay again...First the few bad comments. Definitely need more rest rooms. One in the lobby and one in main building by ocean is not enough. Very far from beach and pools, especially for those with kids. Doors on room slam shut, can be noisy. Drinks weak! Somewhat expected, but a friend of mine always orders doubles and we started watching and they were barely a single. But just ask for more to be added and they will. Now the pluses. Bartenders were all very nice!. Actually most staff from grounds, housekeeping, and wait staff were friendly. Always say hello. The front desk staff is the only area where they weren't super nice and helpful. A couple times I asked for help with the area and they were limited in their response. I love that Riu doesn't require reservations at the restaurants. The japenese was awesome! Ate there twice. Steakhouse seem distracted and got our order wrong but the steaks were awesome. The fusion was awesome, weird, we literally didn't finish anything. Italian had a nice buffet and the meal was good. Mexican was good. Breakfast and lunch buffets were always plentiful and good choices. Pool side BBQ was ok. The day time entertainment crew were nice and fun. The resort puts on some fun activities throughout the day and pre-dinner. The lobby bar is very nice with lots of seating and there is a coffee dessert bar. Nightly entertainment pre-show like a pianist. Can't say we stayed up for the late show but they did have a live band twice which is a great change from the normal resort loud lip synching shows. Pools are nice, plenty of choices. Although chairs did get saved early, the crew always seem to be able to add more if you asked. The ocean was the best I've seen the first 4 days. Totally clear with no seaweed, after the wind changed the chop was worse and there was some seaweed. We took the ferry to Isla Mujeres and rented a golf cart to get around, that was fun. We took the city bus into town to shop. Very cheap and easy. Second time at a Riu, First ever with a family resort. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Villas are no kids. Not great ocean views though as they are only 3 stories and there are trees.

Hotel's Favourite
This was our 5th stay with the RIU properties our 1st time at the Peninsula (9 days). We were upgraded to the 11th floor with an ocean view. Wow! The property was spectacular from the lobby area, dining and outside pools. What I especially like is how all the employees take pride in their work making each guest feel special. What impressed me most was how the RIU management dealt with me testing positive from Covid. I had gotten it at work in the United States and the symptoms didn't show up until after a few days in Cancun. I just had assumed it was the dry climate. Anyway, the hotel would have let me stay up to 14 days with room service, free of charge. The assistant manager, Xochilt Aguayo explained to me the options available and kept in touch during my extra 10 day stay. The professionalism displayed was the best I have ever seen. Thank you, Xochilt

Hotel was great. Food was really good. Staff all friendly and willing to help. But one man stood out a mile to make our stay perfect, hes name was AGUSTIN he worked in the bar area bringing drinks to the table etc. One of the most hard working fellas ive seen and always had a smile on hes face. Great work ethic and lovely bloke the world definitely needs more agustins init thats for sure. He needs rewarding for the hard work he does. Cant praise the man enough made our holiday perfect. Thankyou very much. Pay rise or promotion certainly deserved from what ive seen.

Exceptional. Clean. Friendly. Amazing beach. I see why it is always sold out. I stayed here 5 days and I would definitely stay here again. I liked the cleanliness of rooms, hotel, and food areas. Soooo many people on reviews complain about wearing mask, but not all of us have had Covid. Thank you Riu for keeping us safe.
