We spent an absolutely wonderful week at Sunset Marina! The Mediterranean decor of the resort was absolutely gorgeous and the view from our room was breathtaking, waking up every morning to the lagoon front and the palm trees. This place was a paradise! If you are looking to fully relax and soak up the sun, this is the best place to go! The resort is private and small, meaning less people and less noise. We never had to wait in line for food at the buffet and we never struggled to find a place to sun tan. The pool was almost always empty. We visited Sunset Royal for a day via water taxi and although we enjoyed its liveliness and beautiful beach, we preferred our privacy at Sunset Marina far more. The staff members at Sunset Marina were so warm and kind to us during our whole stay. We shared many conversations with them and they definitely made our trip even more memorable. Isabel was the yoga teacher on site. She was incredible! She was extremely patient, kind, and encouraging. After leaving each yoga practice with her, we felt so rejuvenated and calm. It was the best way to start off our mornings. Irvingh was the barman on the poolside! He made some amazing drinks for us throughout our whole trip! He was so accommodating and even created his own concoctions with the flavours we had in mind. From the Pergola, which was the buffet restaurant, Gonzalo was an absolute sweetheart! He waited on us almost every morning with the biggest smile and the most positive attitude. We were always looking forward to seeing him! Other waiters that we absolutely loved at the Pergola were Tony, Manuel, and Higinio! They were always so sweet and welcoming. From Il Forno, the Italian restaurant on site, Chef Alexis and Manuel were amazing! The food was very tasty, we always ordered so much. Cilantro was our favourite restaurant, no doubt! It was a Mexican restaurant, lead by chefs Jesus and KikeBebe! The food was delicious, we ordered the same meals three times in a row because of how much we were in love with their cooking. The other workers there, such as Miguel, Samuel, and Oscar were very kind. They always made conversations with us and were very attentive whenever we were there. Benito was our main server when we ate supper at Cilantro and he was the sweetest soul. He was always smiling and even remembered our exact order from the previous time we ate there! We shared many laughs with him.…
My wife and I are members of another resort which we love, but they had nothing available at this time, so we decided to make an exchange and found this quaint and well run smaller resort. They are both hospitable and comfortable. They are are Mediterranean in style with three types of rooms and suites. While here we have come across several very good staff members who have made our stay more enjoyable. Three of these excellent staff members are Irvingh at the pool bar (waiter and bartender), Uriel, who took us on a great sail and is teaching us to sail a Hobie. We are half way through our 20 day stay, but I felt I would do a review early.
We had a great time at Sunset Marina. The view over the lagoon is beautiful, and we loved getting the water taxi to the sister hotel and seeing the wildlife on the lagoon. The staff were amazing, and always so friendly and helpful. Isabelle was the best yoga teacher, and I always left her morning classes feeling so peaceful. The hotel is quite quiet, particularly in the evenings, although the staff do put on entertainment, and live music in the lobby, it seemed as though most guests went to Sunset Royal on the shuttle in the evening, as it is livelier there. The food was nice, particularly the breakfast, although there wasn’t always a lot of choice at the evening meal for fussy eaters due to it being a small hotel. We loved the Asian restaurant and ended up eating there a lot, where we were served by the lovely Pamela and enjoyed watching the show the chef put on as he cooked. The pool area is great, you can always get a sun bed at any time. Rooms were very spacious and clean. I also enjoyed a relaxing facial at the spa. Overall it was a very relaxing holiday, and we felt like we were looked after very well, thank you!…
The location is ideal setting for a rejuvenating getaway. Just lying and absorbing the lagoon view is such a soothing experience. The staff extremely courteous and helpful, never failing to greet you. I will definitely return .
My husband and I reserved this resort through RCI and had a comfortable studio with kitchenette with a balcony and nice view of the lagoon. We did not sign up for the all-inclusive (which is a plus for this resort as far as we're concerned) and paid for meals as we went along. All the food was excellent except for one snack, but that may be due to the desire to cater to some of the clientèle. The activities were really fun and we would like to thank Ian, Uriel, Jericó and Isabel, the yoga teacher, for making the trip memorable as well as Alexis the Chef and Irvingh the bartender and servers Benito and Manuel, among others whose names we didn't note or can't remember. In general, all our requests were looked after very well. We also enjoyed the little water taxi to the sister resort but did not make sure of the shuttle service. My only constructive comment is to do away with pressuring to attend a time-share presentation. We did not want to attend one and were nevertheless approached several times. ¡Muchas Gracias!…
Benito is one of the most hardworking staff I ever met, he serves with smile all the time. Love the place, it is overlooking the lagoon! Hoping to come back and stay here again. It was truly a memorable vacation for us, having experienced, sailing, fishing, tour to isla mujeres and skiing. Love the food and other places you can hop in and eat!!!
It was my first time to visit Sunset Marina, the villa was clean and cozy place. The services of staffs are superb: Angelito, Benito, Luiz, Mexico, Rogelio and Urieel were very accommodating and friendly. Kudoooos to you guys. Love to come back soon.
We booked a one week all inclusive room at Sunset Marina with RCI. We paid the all inclusive fees a week before we got there. We were charged exactly what we were told to pay. Maximillio at the front desk was very helpful. The resort arranged for our transportation from and to the airport without any problem. The room was different for what we are used to but We were happy to find out there was a private room upstairs. The only downside was that we only had 1 bathrooms for 6 people. But I don’t blame the resort suce I didn’t think about requesting a room with 2 bathrooms. Karina at the kid zone was beyond great. She did tones of activities with kids, played soccer with them, pirates hunter games, swam with the kids and babysitted our children after hours when we went out( not free ). We greatly appreciate Karina. I give 5 star for the food at the Japanese restaurant. We ordered pretty much every thing on the menu and it was super good. The tacos at the Mexican restaurant was good. Benito the waiter was very nice . They had pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, etc. The buffet had a good breakfast selection for my super picky eater kids and Angel , the waiter was patient nice. We ordered pizza , spaghetti pretty much every single day for my kids from their 24 hours room service. My least favorite at sunset was the drinks, too sweet. But Mexico made it better than the other bartenders. The drinks at the Royal hotel pool was very good. The pool activity there with Armando was fun : water volleyball, piniata for kids, dancing. Sofia and Armando help us with tickets to Congo night club and even walked with us from the hotel to the club and had someone waiting for us there. We wanted to book a half day in the catamaran for $450 and the the receptionist told us she will it to us for free + one 1 hr free massage if we go to their time share presentation. So We went to the about 6 hours presentation, even though they were pushy, we were not forced to buy their time share or bonus week and we went to the catamaran and got the massage for free as promised. Thanks sunset Marina team for your excellent service. We will definitely come back.…

They deserve it.…
Great place to go if you want an all inclusive resort, but do not fall for their lies about the option to go there without paying full price. Cannot understand why they are not honest and just make themselves available to the full inclusive and be done with it. My room was excellent as were most of their facilities. But my sister had treated some of my family to two rooms 'non inclusive'. After a royal welcome, they demanded i pay a ridiculous amount since according to them their reservation was all inclusive 'mandatory'. My sister and mother arrived the next day and their reservation had the 'optional' but then they claimed that since the same person had made both reservations and mine for some reason came out as 'mandatory' now theirs also had to be put under that designation. I was forced to pay close to 300 dollars for the first night even if i had already paid a full week with the reservation, just to not ruffle feathers, assuming i would clear it up the next day. But the next day was worse, as they now wanted to charge everyone full all inclusive prices even if we had already paid and reserved our full week with the lie about 'optional' The time-share service we used had no say in the matter as the Hotel made the decisions and it was very clear to us that they were forcing us, to rip us off without a choice. We left the establishment to look for another place, disgusted by how they treated both of our parties, based on hypocricy covered up by their so called 'mandatory' designation that would have been a mistake easy to fix, if they cared. But obviously they do not care about anyone who is not there for their all-inclusive ripoff treatment and can do what they wish as they go along. Like i said initially, if they would do away with the so-called 'optional' then they could continue ripping off those wha wish to pay the price for the all inclusive and that would not be bad because they do offer a very nice place. But beware of the thievery going on behind the scenes!…
