This hostel has everything backpackers wish: very good ubication in the city center (but in a quiet street though), a familiar atmosphere with nice common areas (with hammocks in the garden), clean bathrooms with hot water showers, very good equipped kitchen, wifi and activities offered in the afternoons and a helpful and friendly staff. But best of all is the...

I've been here twice, and both times I stayed longer than I was expecting to. Rudy, the hostel owner, is amazing - he is extremely knowledgeable about the city and will go out of his way to help you with whatever you need. He is also constantly planning outings and trips for the people in the hostel. The hostel has...

Basic hostel. Good communal areas, lots of hammocks. However the rooms are pretty average and the shower water pools around your ankles. Breakfast is a bit of a mixed bag, you never know what you'll get but generally it was pretty good! Some of the staff are a bit vague which we found the most frustrating but managed to meet...

Iguana is like a home for me, home on the other side of the globe. I'm coming here every winter, always a bit afraid is it going to be same cool like before. And always is even cooler! The stuff is changing, guests are changing - but atmosphere is always the same. Lots of inspiring conversations at a long table,...

This is a wonderful hostel in a fantastic city. It perfectly fits the laid-back vibe you can feel in San Cristobal itself. The common areas (including hammocks!) are really conducive to getting to know your fellow travellers and the staff are friendly and helpful. Even though it's such a social hostel, there's a curfew that means you can get plenty...

Awesome hostel!! Clean and comfortable with friendly, helpful staff, wonderful breakfasts included, and free use of the kitchen and common area. I can't fault this place. Rudi, the hostel owner, is genuinely one of the nicest people I've met and he and his staff have turned this hostel into a home away from home. Two friends and I came here...

I`ve backpacked in every habitated continent and this has been my favourite guest house. For me what makes a guest house are not its faciliates but its atmosphere. I want something cheap but with a comfortable bed, places to relax, 24 hour hot water, wifi and to feel my belongings are secure . Hostel Iguana fulfills all these basics more...

The Iguana seriously has it all. Low prices. Hammocks. Fire-pits. Breakfast and coffee included. Fast wifi. It's located next to the Mayan market and near to the bustling downtown cafes and bars. But all of this is topped off by the people here. The owner and the workers are so laid back and welcoming that they are just a part...

I've been to Iguana Hostel for a week and I just loved the place. First of all it is really central so that you can reach the main atractions of the city just walking, with the advantage that the place is silent besides its location, as it is just one block away of one of the main touristic streets. Rudi,...

I can't say enough good things about this great hostel in San Cristobal! But it is more than just a hostel - it is a home away from home for all travelers. The small size, family style meals, and friendly staff make this an amazing stop on any journey. The owner, Rudy, goes above and beyond to take care of...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Four years since opening, IGUANA HOSTEL is well known among backpackers for its family, chilled out and fun atmosphere. People come to the Iguana for two nights and they stay for two weeks... This is because Iguana Hostel can host only up to 27 people, so it's easy to make friends to share fun with, and we will always take good care of you. Our main asset is our staff: travellers on the road, who love making friends, and speak your language. The IGUANA HOSTEL is situated in a historic Barrio del Cerrillo, with a panoramic view from the terrace. The hostel is located near Santo Domingo a church surrounded and a colourful handcraft market, 2 blocks from the public market and only 7 minutes walk from the very heart of the city: la Catedral and el Parque Central. ... more   less
