Casa Machaya is a wonderful place to stay. Located on the hills above the city, the view is beautiful and the apartment is perfect. Arleen and Alvin were such wonderful hosts, when I left I felt I was saying good by to old friends. Highlights: Mezcal tour/tasting in the hills, and the great restaurants. Try Casa Oaxaca.

A floor to yourself overlooking a valley! What more could one ask for? Well you get it all and more at Casa Machaya, from fresh pastries in the morning, a fully stocked kitchen ready for your gastronomic creations (especially useful if you have done the cooking course - HIGHLY recommended), helpful, friendly advice from Alvin and Arlene, great tour options...

Casa Machaya is much more than a B&B it's like a private apartment or a home away from home. Alvin and Arlene have gone above and beyond to see to your every need and make the place as charming and homey as possible. We really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone looking for a place in...

Casa Machaya is at the top of the second steepest road I have ever known (steeper than Jubilee Hill in Wellington New Zealand) and I frequently wondered if our taxi would make it to the top. Once safely there one gets a quite different view of Oaxacan life than one would have, staying in the centre of town. Spread all...

My wife and I spent two weeks at Casa Machaya and found it a wonderful, tranquil retreat from the noise and confusion of a Mexican village. The thick adobe walls that keep it quiet also serve to keep it cool in the afternoon and warm at night. The guest rooms were much larger than I expected. The bedroom alone is...

I have travelled all over the world but nothing prepared me for this incredible trip to Oaxaca; so rich in culture and so authentic! My accomodations were also outstanding and very relaxing to come 'home to' at the end of a full day of touring. They were incredibly private, extremely comfortable, spacious and spotless. The private kitchen was great to...

The B and B is nicely put together with everything you would need for your stay. The location is at the edge of town but that gives beautiful views of the surrounding country. The real key is Alvin and Arlene who make it a wonderful experience. They are warm, obviously enjoy their life and the B and B lifestyle. Alvin...

“Oaxaca December evenings are CHILLY so you will need warm clothes once the sun goes down, and in the early morning! I brought a down sweater with me and it was perfect. There is a portable space heater for the bedroom, and extra blankets.”

“We stayed in the main guest level. Since we were a couple only, we didn't use the small extra bedroom that's part of it. If you are travelling with another couple or older children, rent the second independent suite upstairs (which Arlene showed us for future reference).”
