New York City, New York2 contributions1 helpful vote
First I have to say all of the employees at this hotel are so warm and accommodating, especially Luis and Carlos. Oaxaca overall is full of some of the warmest people I have ever met. Maybe it’s especially noticeable to me because I live in New York City where kindness goes to die. I stayed at Hotel Marquesado over New Years Eve with a friend, and I actually broke my ankle toward the end of my stay. It was a scary experience, as I had never injured myself or been to a hospital in another country, especially one where I do not speak the language, but Luis was like a concerned father, and made sure I was comfortable and taken care of, as well as spent the good part of an hour helping me call the airlines to request wheelchair assistance for my flights back. On my last day, check out was at noon but my flight wasn’t until 7:30pm, and luckily they were not fully booked and let me stay in the room (for a small fee) to keep my leg elevated. There was one small issue with bugs, being on the ground floor and my friend left a sandwich out on the counter overnight, but as soon as we told Luis about it, he took care of it. We didn’t see any more of the little spider-like creatures after that, however there were a lot of ants who came in under the door as they pleased. I suppose it’s probably the same at any mostly outdoor hotel, as many in Mexico are. The location is good - close enough to walk to everything but far enough away to be slightly removed from the busy city center, the bed was comfy enough, and the air conditioning was appreciated. The lighting could be better, but that was really the least of my concerns. I didn’t get to visit the cafe, but they did send breakfast to my room when I was hurt, and it was very tasty.

In the hotel "El Marquesado" stole 2 blouses inside the room. Located far from the center. Poor Wi Fi. The rainwater gets through the windows. Very dark rooms. In general very bad experience in the hotel!!! The celebration of Guelaguetza, is very beautiful is like a big party that lasts all day in the streets.

We loved this hotel, it is clean and pretty with a wonderful staff. Lois was very helpful, he spoke very good English and took care of us in every way. It’s a 15 minute walk to the town center. We had coffee on the roof top every morning.

The Pros:1) Plentiful Hot Water easily regulated; 2:) Efficient, quiet Air Conditioner (the split kind, where the compressor is elsewhere). The temperature was very precise; 3) Clean, 4) charming: There is a large central court yard with a beautiful fountain, and lovely succulents and flowers and even birds in a large cage that they put to bed every night; 5) Good breakfast at little cafe overlooking courtyard. The menu is fairly limited and the coffee could be hotter but my Mexican partner enjoyed eating there every day. Get the huevos rancheros. 6) Coffee in room. (It seems local). 7) Helpful concierge. He arranged a cemetery tour for us even though it was not through the hotel. 8) Luggage storage. Cons: It’s on an insanely busy street with no stop lights. We made the mistake of crossing it to get to the Zocalo. You don’t need to. Stay on your side of the street and go up, not down, to get to Zocalo. Our room was right on the street. Surprisingly, with window closed, it was pretty darn quiet. Mexico is a LOUD country. Mexicans LOVE noise. But this noise was just the sound of traffic whizzing by, not partiers or loud voices. The hotel was quiet as a tomb but for the street,, For that reason I think staying closer to the Zocalo may not be the best option especially during fiestas. It looks like some rooms don’t have a window. Ours did but you didn’t want to open it. The A/C gives you the air you need. You just need to agree with your partner on the temperature! No fridge in the room. The neighborhood felt very safe to us, but it is working class and the Zocalo is a healthy walk away. Say 15 minutes. Cuts both ways as you are away the busiest areas. If I could find a QUIET hotel with hot water closer to the Zocalo I would probably stay there. But expect to pay more. Overall this was a good value for the price and my partner and I were very happy here. Just tired at the end of the day from a lot of walking.

Poor internet , I was given a dark room , and then I was moved to a room with a window that leaked when it rained, very clean room and nice stuff. The hotel is not as close to the attractions as listed.
