Spent New Year's Eve in Mexico and wanted a placed that was within walking distance of where I wanted to go. Centrally located and the beds were the most comfortable I've ever slept in (besides my own). One minor drawback was the TV didn't work, but I was not there to watch it. Told the receptionist about it, she said she would check into it, and never did.
THE AQUA RIO HOTEL is a budget hotel that shows Pride of Ownership. This place is cleaner that some hospital I have been too at home in Los Angeles !! I get upset reading some reviews about the location but let me tell you I decided to take Greyhound from Downtown Los Angeles to Tijuana. I felt safer where this hotel is located then at the LA bus station where you had people selling stolen items and drug addicts. I wish people would look in their own backyard before making ignorant comments, I arrived at the hotel at 3 AM and they had security and one way into the hotel. I was checked in immediately. I went to my room and put on the AC which cooled down quickly and had a great sleep !! Great Room, Great People, Great Price, Felt Very Safe. Win Win !!!
Aqua Rio is a decent inexpensive hotel with small but clean rooms. Parking can be an issue if the hotel is busy. There is no closet, but two hooks for clothing. A continental breakfast is advertised. In reality its coffee, a bowl of fruit, two loaves of white bread, a jar of peanut butter and a bowl of jelly, and a toaster. Staff is friendly and helpful, TV has a lot of channels, beds are comfortable. Just don't expect the Hilton.
The big problem is it is hard to find the hotel with Google Map or Waze. We arrived at Tijuana around 11:30 am, but drove around and around to locate this hotel. The GPS is not able to find the hotel. Finally we found the hotel at 3:04 pm after we asked many Mexicans (luckily one of us is a Spanish speaker). The location of the hotel is good. It is walking distance to Revolution Avenue where the main attractions and bars are. The customer service is friendly. The parking is minimum, so once you parked, it'd better don't move your car until you check out. You may use the affordable taxi services. There is a guard watches the cars overnight. That is safe. The room is clean, but the small heater has not that powerful. Even it is on, the whole night is freezing.
I did not like the area at the end of Constitution towards a hill that led to a ill kept area (dumpy). The rooms on the first floor did not have A/C's but were clean. My option was to take a room on the upper floors, but there was no elevator. I am disabled and can climb stairs with great difficulty. Since the street is on an incline, walking down to the restaurants, bank or stores was not an option. For those reasons I will not be staying there in the future. The employees were pleasant, attentive and helpful.
