I wrote a very positive review of this hotel after our first stay there two years ago. Having now stayed there 3 years in a row, I cannot resist writing an updated review.

The Mustard Seed, both hotel and restaurant, is a truly exceptional place to stay and dine. We have enjoyed many family meals there over many years,

It is owned and managed by a truly exceptional host, John Edward, who is an absolute paragon of traditional Irish hospitality, and who clearly runs his establishment as a labour of love.

The food is consistently of the very highest quality. Congratulations to an exceptional chef. And to whomever is responsible for procuring the produce, all of which is wonderfully fresh and natural, some of it grown in their own fruit and vegetable garden; which makes for a lovely walk.

The hotel itself is a very-well appointed, and offers great comfort in a delightful old-world atmosphere, surrounded by lovely Irish countryside. It is a great way of taking a break from city life, and enjoying a peaceful retreat in the country. It is also very child-friendly; so much so that my 10-year-old daughter consistently describes it as her all-time favourite hotel... and she has stayed in a fair number.

To crown it all, the staff are remarkably kind, welcoming and efficient, not to mention the kitchen staff who do such a great job.

The Mustard Seed at Echo Lodge and John Edward and the team are a welcome exception to the “poor” standard and high price that similar hotels charge.
The welcome, the village, the courtesy shown, the lovely room, the superb bed and the smiles and pleasant greetings cannot be bought.
Dinner and service are fantastic and a treat. Also a treat is a proper no frills Gin and Tonic.
The freshly prepared breads, starters and all foods are nowadays such a treat.
Give me the Mustard Sees everyday over all the other “glitz”. A real escape to the country and Ireland.
I look forward to returning again. Thank you the entire team at the Mustard Seed.

We have just returned after a two night stay at The Mustard Seed. With Covid-19 lurking in the background, we weren't sure what to expect, and how restrictions would affect our stay. We needn't have worried !!
From the moment we arrived, it was obvious that every member of staff knew precisely what they were doing and how to deliver a wonderful service while still observing the highest levels of Covid-19 guideline adherence. With lots of space in both dining and lounge areas, maintaining a sensible distance from other guests was not a problem.
We ate there on both nights and found the food and presentation to be of the highest standard.
We had chosen the basic bedroom for our stay. The room was large, bright and beautifully finished - it would be classified as a Superior Room in most hotels.
Last, but not least, the staff were wonderful. Every request was met with a genuine smile and they appeared to really enjoy their work and delivered a top class service.
We can't wait to return.

First time to visit, we will definitely be back! The place is fantastic! We were greeted & offered tea or coffee on arrival, then showed to our suite. Dinner was booked for 7pm & the food &service was absolutely top class. We relaxed after dinner in the sun room with a bottle of wine & our dog was able to join us to relax .

We had a family Birthday at the Mustard Seed. We were very disappointed with the starters a nd the main course. Many of the group had steak for main course which they did not enjoy. It was tough and chewy. The fish was also tough and difficult to cut. This was not what we expected. So overall for the large amount of money we paid we felt very let down.

We were blessed with having our wedding @ the Mustard Seed. The day was above all expectation. We arrived approx 2.30pm prior to our 3.30pm ceremony. Ceremony room is flanked by a garden and outdoor terrace. Our big crowd spilled onto the terrace but everyone could hear everything due to the big windows & doors. The incredible weather lended itself to a perfect evening. Despite the ceremony starting late ( our fault!), everyone was completely at ease and the second the ceremony ended, drinks & finger food was served outside. We quickly started our speeches and the atmosphere could not have been more relaxed and idyllic. The beautiful grounds and its aspect allowed for privacy and provided an ideal setting for photos. Rooms were decadent and exquisitely thought out.
The food is unmatched. Great choice on the menu and waiting staff had indepth knowledge of the menu. Our music set up in the hallway which is just inside the main entrance door. It was perfect.
Special mention to John Edward. Utter professional. Cannot recommend The Mustard Seed enough as a small wedding venue

From the moment you step in the front door you can feel the warmth of this establishment. The warm fires in the seating areas are matched by the welcomes of the staff and John Edward himself, who is a charming host and always around.
The hotel has an old world country house feel while being modernised to a high level of comfort and decorated in vibrant style. Dinner and breakfast were very enjoyable with local or home grown produce used. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back.

It was not just being in the shadow of Knock Fiernha that makes Ballingarry memorable, the lovely relaxed and welcoming accommodation at Echo Lodge has really put the village on the map. And then the gorgeous food in the Mustard Deed restaurant puts the icing on the cake. It is well worth a diversion from Limerick to Kerry road to sample this very special experience.
Thank you.

We recently spent a night here; mainly to get a break away from our dogs, who, ironically could have come to stay too! We got a lovely welcome with coffee and homemade lemon shortbread in the library complete with wood burning stove which was very welcome on a chilly rainy day. Our room was lovely; the mattress to die for; firm yet comfortable. Best water power in a shower ever. Dinner was delicious. The menu is quite eclectic with something for everybody. The grounds of the hotel are really superb and the garden is beautifully tended to with a great variety of home grown produce used in the kitchen. The list of suppliers shows that most of the produce used is sourced as locally as possible which is always good to see. While there were other guests staying a visit to Echo Lodge is like a visit to a friend’s lovely home; welcoming, friendly, extremely comfortable, lovely food and drinks. We just want to return again before too long. The generous leaving gift of freshly made brown bread hot out of the oven was lovely.

Honestly, what's not to love about the Mustard Seed.

An effusive welcome from John Edward and his staff, we were treated to prosecco because it was our wedding anniversary, a lovely touch. Also
offered tea and coffee, with selection of cakes on the patio overlooking the front garden.

Our room, number 3, at the front of the house was a magnificent suite, tastefully decorated with antique furniture, including a four post bed, couch and chairs, and ornaments. Extremely relaxing and peaceful. Noise from the house or road is definitely not an issue.

We dined in the restaurant both nights of our stay, and couldn't be happier. Pre-dinner drinks served in the study, while we perused the menu via QR scan. The food was sumptuous. Qual for starter, followed by a fresh sorbet and for main, pork belly, fillet and cheek was a real favourite, and excellent wine selection.

All staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble, hard working but always polite and friendly, very much in the mould of John Edward himself, who always took time to chat with his guests.

The grounds around the house are magnificent, with orchards, fresh herbs fruits and vegetables, and oodles of flowers. Lovely and peaceful for a post breakfast stroll before heading off for the day.

On departure, friendly goodbyes and even given a loaf of tasty brown bread.

Can't believe it was eleven years since we were last here, it won't be that long again, but delighted to see the Mustard Seed still maintaining, even exceeding, its previous excellent quality and friendly hospitality. Chapeau!
