Our Chileno travel agent responded to our request to stay in "unique" hotels, and Hotel Ensenada in the village of La Ensenada, Chile - 45 km from Puerto Varas - was one. The owner/manager was the granddaughter of a German immigrant to the Lake District in the 19th Century and this hotel looked almost as old (actually only 100+ years... More

This hotel is in a 107-year-old farm house, and it is like you are going back in time. Old, yes, but very well cared for, beautifully decorated with antiques and natural flowers, comfortable, warming, welcoming, especially with dear Joyce and the hotel staff, that take very good care of you, from check-in to check-out, as if you were old friends.... We were on a cycling trip and spent just the one night here. The rooms are comfortable and it's all rather old-fashioned in a quaint way. Breakfast was varied - good fresh fruit, eggs and fresh toast. The filled rolls and lemon meringue pie slices (!) were rather stale. The hotel has its own gate opposite that leads to the... More

We were a group of 31 cyclists passing through the area and one night was spent in this hotel. Our expectations along the way weren't high; a big group and all we wanted was beer, food and bed. However this hotel was a big surprise and utterly enchanting. It's like a museum full of antiques and oddities. In every nook... More

My fiance and I spent three nights here in March 2012 and it's a sweet, quaint hotel. With that said, I called in early February 2012 to make a reservation and it got lost/misplaced. I was quite upset when I called the day before our arrival and heard that news, but Joyce, the owner, managed to work something out that... More
