I stumbled upon St Rule more by luck than judgement and was the only guest on a stormy Saturday night - but what a great piece of luck! If you demand en-suite in your room and the most modern of facilities, then this may not be the place for you, but if you like your rooms individually themed and beautifully laid out, as well as being spacious and very comfortable, then you can't go wrong here. The hosts, Debbie and Iain are both charming, and Debbie, aside from running an unique B&B, has a second-life that most of us would have written a book about! The common areas in the house, as other have mentioned in reviews, are fascinating, and the icing on the cake was being provided at breakfast with a small hand-bell, to ring in case anything was not quite right. I did not come close to having to use it. Highly recommended..

Just in the area for the night visiting family who were holidaying there. St Rule House was the nearest with a vacancy. It was quite late in the afternoon but we had a very friendly welcome from Debbie who showed us to our room. The room was very generously sized and it needed to be because the really comfortable double bed was enormous. There were a good range of options for breakfast which consisted of good quality, well cooked produce and most enjoyable. This is not the usual bed and breakfast. It is like eating in a miniature baronial hall with silver chargers and being served from highly ornamental tea and coffee pots. The house is a display of medieval artifacts on every wall and a full size suit of armour. The hosts are happy to pass on their historical knowledge which we found very interesting and pride in their Scottish roots apparent but not overwhelming. I recommend St Rule House as an excellent B&B and particularly if you have an interest in history.

I stayed for an evening at St Rule when visiting family who live locally. In addition to being a very comfortable and friendly B&B with lovely hosts Debbie and Ian, it is the decor which will fascinate any guest. They are both passionate about history and the medieval themes which inspire the decoration are a pleasure to admire. We had many interesting conversations about Scotland's past. I slept well in a comfy bed, and the freshly prepared good quality breakfast was an excellent way to start the day. All in all, it was a good quality experience at a competitive price point. I would have no hesitation in recommending St Rule to friends and family - in fact I've already done so !
