Awesome stay at Forter. We took the sleeper train up from London on a Thursday night and back down on a Sunday, so made the absolute most of the 3 days and thank god we did: what a stunning castle in beautiful surroundings. It was pure theatre, blanketed in snow at the time so sledging at "home" and even skiing...

My wife and I had a fantastic weekend with 4 other couples at Forter Castle. The transfer from the airport was very easy, and straightforward, around 1 hour 45 minutes. The castle was immaculately decorated, with a wonderful open fire. All the small things were considered, like spare wellington boots for our use, tea making facilities in our rooms, and...

An absolutely stunning building, inside and out. A beautifully restored castle originating from the 15th century. Along with breath-taking views, walks and towns the castle itself is incredible. Stunning interior with no expense spared it's an absolute dream of a place to stay. We used 5 of the bedrooms (think there is a couple more), all 4 poster beds, amazing...

We went to Forter with a group of 8 friends and 7 children for my birthday. It was the absolutely perfect choice, for time with friends and children but would equally be wonderful as a romantic getaway, or a retreat. The CASTLE: The castle is quite extraordinary, a real fortress which looms on the horizon as you approach. Despite looking...

Having holidayed in Scotland throughout my life, I have been lucky enough to stay in many 'luxurious' houses and can say that Forter is by far the most elegant, comfortable place to stay in the highlands. The comfort of every bed in the house is as comfortable as the master bedroom which is so rare, but tells you the level...

I would not normally write a review, but we were so impressed with the beautiful Forter Castle from beginning to end. We arrived in the evening with our two children and upon entering immediately felt at home. It has everything you would want from a luxurious stay in the Scottish Highlands with breathtaking views. Fabulously decorated, with soft lighting throughout,...

It is almost impossible to explain how utterly perfect Forter Castle is. The drive from Edinburgh is as picturesque as one could hope for and builds the anticipation of reaching this magnificent castle. As you approach over the hill it sits majestically on the horizon. Nothing can prepare you for the sheer elegance and comfort of the interior (brilliant as...

The pictures are spectacular but they do not nearly do justice to the experience of staying at Forter Castle. It met or in most cases, exceeded our expectations during our 1 week stay there. It is a true Scottish castle, recently restored with all the modern conveniences. If you're looking to get away from it all or host you wedding...

The castle was remarkably comfortable and modern inside. The staff made sure everything was perfect upon our arrival including leaving homemade scones and hot tea, which was very welcoming after our long journey to Scotland. However, If you cannot navigate the circular staircase to the bedrooms and bathrooms this castle is not for you.

Dear Lisa Thank you for taking the time to review Forter we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your point regarding the spiral staircase. We have added a brand new rope/bannister to assist but the reality is that stairs are indeed an integral part of the building which dates back to 1560. We do hope you...
