Stayed here for a family wedding, the grounds of the hotel are absolutely stunning! The staff around the peppery is also great. The beachfront rooms which are more expensive due to location are in desperate need of an upgrade. Extremely old & dated. Painted over numerous times to mask the age. The air conditioning our room did not at full capacity, even when lowered to 5 degrees Celsius. Exterior door had a inch and a half gap allowing a crab to come into our room at night. There isn’t an elevator accessible & no bellhops so you are also responsible for carrying your own luggage so pack lightly. The breakfast had limited options & they weren’t all available daily. The beach hut bar makes fresh pina colada’s that were amazing! If you are not concerned with where you lay your head, then this is a solid option. If you’re looking for a little bit more desirable property, skip this one.…
The hotel itself is not bad. Sure, the structures could use a little updating but the grounds are nice and the location is great. HOWEVER, they accept wedding venues who play really loud music until 1 am in an OPEN AIR facitility. This means the sound travels all throughout the hotel. I was staying the farthest away from where the music was and I still wasn't able to sleep even with earplugs AND my noise cancelling headset. I tried to call the front desk multiple times and they just simply chose not to answer. I ended up getting out of bed and going directly to the front desk at 12:30am only to be told, with a shrug of the shoulders, that "it's a wedding". If you don't have the proper space to isolate those events from your other guests, then you shouldn't be hosting those events. If it was that horrible for me on the far side of the property, I can only imagine what it must have been like for the highest paying guests who were beach front DIRECTLY below the hut that hosted the reception. People pay a lot of money to come have a relaxing vacation and it is just totally disrespectful to subject people to that kind of noise at a hotel. Imagine the families who had young kids kept awake until 1am!! For context: I was at this hotel for only 2 nights and there were weddings 2/2 nights.…
Pros: - Friendly service at the front desk and from the maids - Excellent location, great view from the pool and the beach - Comfortable bed - Fast internet connection Cons: - Awful service at breakfast, having the audacity of politely asking for some eggs was regarded as an insult at best... Very limited breakfast, served in styrofoam boxes and without any choice. - Bad soundproofing. The frogs are loud at night, and the only option was to use earplugs to sleep. - Extremely limited choices for dinner
We booked 2 nights at this hotel and then received a message from airline that was supposed to take us home that flights were cancelled. Of course we couldn’t go there to get stuck... on our Caribbean journey we had other similar reservations and all other properties waived charges but not this one, they offered a ‘credit’ for 2 nights and charged our card despite the circumstances. The place has no good vibes for us anymore. I don’t think we would use the credit given the attitude...
brilliant spot, small village nearby walking distance, excellent food available, great private beach, brilliant staff and breakfast. great views too, huge rooms, with balcony. Sea view from all rooms I think.
Stayed at Bakoua Hotel to celebrate my wife's rather special birthday. It could not have been better! We had a privilege room overlooking the beach and it was lovely. It was cleaned to the highest possible standard every day and above and beyond that the staff across the hotel were excellent. For the big day we joined their usual Sunday BBQ in the beach restaurant and this was first class with wonderful food and service and a real effort made to celebrate those who were having birthdays that day with complementary champagne. We were there a week and it is difficult to find any fault with the hotel, ts food, its staff, its facilities. We cannot recommend it highly enough!
The only good thing is the position. On the shore with the rooms spread on his private beach and in a nice garden. Also just near the central part of the city where you can find a lot of shops and restaurants. The hotel is in fact a good 2 stars or a poor 3 stars hotel by everything, but with 4 stars prices. It looks like was never renovated. Dirt, scale or mold in every corner, scratches and broken doors, very old furniture. Very bad services. When we arrived the air conditioned seems that work but no cold even on higher position. I asked 3 days in a row to come somebody to take a look, and just 3rd day came somebody. The reason : the filter was around 2 cm of dust on it, the air couldn't pass ! Poor breakfast where the teaspoons and expreso cups were from plastic ! No salt or pepper on the tables, just some small envelops (the airplane ones) to the central table. Also small cups for jam or nutella from paper. The pool towels are once per stay, 1 day, one week or 2 weeks, no matter what. The restaurant very poor menu for lunch and dinner. Except some people from reception nobody speak English. Was one of the worst experience I ever had to a hotel.…
We stayed 9 nights in July at this hotel. The setting and location were fabulous but everything needs to be updated or fixed at the hotel. In our room the coffee maker and the mini fridge never worked. We complained 3 times but gave up. While the infinity pool was spectacular 20 years ago it is now crumbling. The front security gate worked sporadically making it hard to get in or out. I will say that the room was always cleaned well. The shower was impossible to keep water from dripping on the floor. We could easily put up with these issues but the worst was the band that played every Thursday until 2:00 am. The music sounded as if it was playing in our room. Impossible to sleep. I find it hard to believe that we were the only ones to complain. The hotel had such potential but needs LOTS OF WORK.…
We arrived from a cruise ship just before 10.00 in the morning. The one receptionist on duty was frazzled and was trying to deal with four check-ins at the same time and had a brusque manner. Two days later, when we were waiting for our taxi to the airport, another receptionist effectively called us liars when we said a taxi had been booked, where was it? It appeared 15 minutes late 'because of the traffic', with son and grandad out for a ride taking up the best seats in the van. Between those times, we concluded that the place could offer so much but needed a total refurb and plenty of staff training. When we eventually got into our room, we were well pleased with its location - 2 metres from the beautiful sandy beach, with sun beds, towels and palapas. The room had an verandah with shades from which we sat and watched the sun setting and the boats coming and going. But the sleeping area was cramped, once the king size bed was taken into account, with limited hanging space, and a bathroom that could ideally have been ripped out and new sanitary fittings installed. Breakfast in the main dining room was fine - a good selection of hot and cold food and an egg station. The dinner we had there was very good, once we got the table we thought we had booked earlier in the day - a reservation the Md' argued had nevere been made until I threatened to go to reception, to get the day book to show him that it had been. Who needs a scene to get dinner - and another occasion when I was called a liar by hotel staff. All in all a disappointment, apart from the beach, the warm sea and the swimming, and they are all courtesy of a higher power.…
This is probably the nicest hotel on the beach on the island. Food exceeded my expectations. Their associates Christine and Jean-Michel are terrific. Terrific!! Toiletries are delightful. Grounds are very clean. Easy walk to many restaurants. Close to ferry to Fort De France. Walking distance to car rental. The air conditioning and WiFi need help. No ventilation in the bathroom. The property is in need of capital improvements.
