We recently returned home after 10 wonderfully relaxing days at Sunset at the Palms. This was our first visit but the 5th visit for 1 of the other couples we were traveling with. Everything they told us about his resort was 100% accurate. It did not disappoint! The resort grounds was beautiful and our room was peaceful and comfortable. The staff was so friendly and happy. We were always greeted with smiles and they never hesitated to ask how our day was or if there is anything we needed. We enjoyed a wonderful couples massage and my only regret is not having another. I can say without hesitation that one of my favorite things about Sunset at the Palms is the people. The interactions with staff at the resort and the beach was something to look forward to daily. We never had a shortage of delicious food. The buffet's always had more choices than we could possibly eat, along with a fresh cooking station. Not only did each dinner buffet have a different theme every night, we also enjoyed the Chef's Choice dinner one night and the Lotus Leaf restaurant another night. There was always so many options at the buffet, but enjoying the other two options was another experience to remember. With the lunch menu, there were enough options that you could have something different every day and still not try them all, but they also had a new special daily as well. To top off the already great themed dinners, we were able to enjoy the BBQ dinner at the beach twice. Definitely a highlight of our stay. Heading to the beach was always a nice start to the day. From the security people at the gate, to the crossing guard at the street and then the staff at the beach, always with a warm greeting and a smile. Once at the beach, someone was always there immediately to get you set up with the spot of your choice on the beach, bringing you your lounger and a table and providing towels. They provide a red flag for service, although we always declined as we enjoyed walking up to the bar and the grill and interacting with the staff. In conclusion, our time at the Sunset at the Palms was by far the best vacation we have experienced. There is no doubt we will return. …
Beautiful resort and amazing people I apologize for my late review, but better a bit late than never. Together with my husband we’ve been to the beautiful Sunset at the Palms between June 7th to 17th to celebrate our anniversary and we are both very happy with the choice we’ve made. We were looking for a quiet small resort and we couldn’t have found a better one; so, if you are looking for partying, this is not your place. We loved every minute of our trip there and we relaxed and charged our batteries more than we would have imagined. From the moment we stepped on to the resort we were welcomed with big smiles and a cold drink. Big thank you to Kadian and to Josephine, both very professional and friendly, who helped us and made sure that we had all the information we needed and made us feel like home. We were given a room in the last row of the resort and that was exactly what we wanted – clean and just perfect for us - far away from everything. But you’ll laugh because everything it is so close at this resort, it takes you just a few minutes to get anywhere; even to go at the beach it took us just a few minutes. I was a bit concerned about being across the highway, but they have a crossing guard starting at 7 o’clock in the morning (Kamisha – very nice lady), so there is no wait whatsoever. The beach it is gorgeous, turquoise water and white sand, just a dream. We enjoyed every morning being there while everyone else was still sleeping or having their breakfast, we just loved the beach and having it just for us for a couple of hours was amazing. After that it would start to get a bit noisy because of the various locals coming to sell you things, but just a “thank you, no” and they move on to someone else. There were some floaties at the beach left by other guests (I guess) and people would take them as they were coming at the beach and use them for the day and return them, but towards the end of our trip we noticed that there were a few people who were just taking them to their room when they were leaving the beach and that is not very nice. We usually travel with our own stuff, so we didn’t really care, but we saw how others they were almost fighting over those floaties, so to avoid disappointment bring your own or buy it at the store. Food was more than plenty, there was always something to eat. First it was the breakfast, then lunch a la carte in the buffet area or you could eat at the beach bar, then was dinner time at the buffet or one of the a la carte and after dinner they had sandwiches across the lobby area. So, if someone tells me that there was no food, I’m sorry but there is something wrong with you. Both me and my husband we had more then enough food and we couldn’t eat everything that was offered to us. At the a ala carte, they were starting by giving you the bread with the butter and then appetizer, soup, salad, the main course and desert, so how someone can say that it was not enough food? I usually skipped the bread, soup and salad and I was still stuffed at the end of the dinner. We had reservations at The Lotus Leaf and The Chef’s Showcase and we loved both of them. Big thank you to Chef Kenjoy who is an artist and is trying so hard to accommodate everyone’s dietary requests and to Cornelius, who is a very professional waiter. They are both great people and they are making an amazing team! Thank you for making our dinners a very special part of our vacation, we deeply appreciate it! Outside the a la carte restaurant is The Martini Bar where we meet Kirk who is a very attentive bartender and who, like many others working at this hotel, would take rounds and helping at different parts of the resort: at the beach, at different bars or restaurant. They are just like a big family who made us feel like at home. And not to forget, the Blue Coffee café was absolutely amazing, my husband enjoyed the espresso and I loved the jiggy coffee, plus they had lemongrass tea freshly picked from their garden, so if you are a tea lover you must definitely try this one. Thank you so much for including the Club Mobay at our arrival, it made a huge difference to start our vacation in style and not having to stay for hours in those huge lineups! Everything went very smooth and fast, so thanks again for including this VIP treatment at our arrival, it is very appreciated by us and other couples that we talked to! I’m not very good with names and I apologize for not mentioning other names in my review because there are lots of amazing people who work at this resort trying to make everyone happy and they deserve to be mentioned here. Thank you all for making our vacation an amazing experience! Looking forward to see you as soon as possible! Adriana & Mihai…
Picturesque location over the road from a lovely beach but the hotel flattered to deceive. In desperate need of investment and improvement in all aspects of hotel management, catering and staff training. The rooms are scattered through beautiful gardens through which can walk and observe the wildlife. They could introduce some seating in the grounds to enjoy the peace and quiet. The rooms are dated and in need of a deep clean. Our light switches did not work and had a cracked wash hand basin. Expecting a digital safe I was confronted by a metal safe with a lock and key. We lived out of our suitcases as there was little to no shelving, drawers or hanging space for our clothes. Not sure when the shower was last serviced but there was plenty of hot water and a TV with suitable channels for international travellers. The fridge contained water, Coke and beer which were replenished every day but often dirty glasses were left uncollected. Maid service was efficient. Overall, the room was comfortable but needs a little more attention to detail. The resort seemed to die after the evening meal (probably trying to find food away from the hotel). The only recourse after the evening meal was your room, the pool bar which closed at 1am or the hotel bar which closed at 11pm!!. Yes, when the main bar closes you can go to the pool bar, how obscure as you go from drinking out of proper glasses to plastic beakers. The hotel bar was regularly frequented by a pianist and sing-song which got tedious after 3 days and made me feel I was in a care home. The marketing material said it was quiet but there is quiet and quiet. The one good thing is that they put sandwiches and snacks out at 11pm which were more edible than any of the evening meal option on offer. Do not go here for good food. If I was in hotel management I would feel embarrassed at the food being offered especially in the evening. Not only was it repetitive but the standard of cooking was disgraceful. My comments not only relate to the buffet but also the Chefs Table at which I was served the worst food I have ever been served - expecting a display of exciting cookery I was confronted by 3 cooks (not chefs) who explained the "special menu". To my horror they collected the pre-cooked from the kitchen and re-heated it in front of the guests before serving. Everything was either cold over over-cooked and I and my wife could not bring ourselves to eat it and went hungry on the night. Desperate and insulting. The similar standard of catering was also demonstrated at the beach BBQ so please avoid at all costs. The desserts for the whole time we were there were pieces of hard, tasteless sponge with different iced toppings. There is obviously no local patisserie or bakers as everything was cooked on-site. Never did we see a fresh fruit salad or even ice cream. The best food was from the beach bar at lunchtime so fill your boots at lunchtime and avoid the evening meals at all times. The breakfast was predictable, repetitive and boring. Do not go to this hotel for good food. Be warned. Finally service was mixed. The poor service buffers some excellent service we received from specific individuals whose names I have forgotten. Some staff work very hard to please and work long hours whilst others need to go an 2-week customer service course. You find the same across Jamaica - some excellent, some who could not care. I approached the management on a couple of occasions to explain my extreme disappointment in the food and tried to offer solutions but I received no response or recompense. I will probably get the standard email response from the management to my review apologising and promoting better practice in the future but I will never return to this sub-standard 5* hotel.…
My wife and I, along with two other couples, our adult children, just returned from a long awaited trip to Sunset at the Palms. For my wife and I it was a return after several previous visits. For the two couples that went with us, it was their first visit. We stayed for ten days and everything about the time spent was awesome. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained. The staff, as always, were all wonderful without exception. They are friendly and courteous and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable and stress free. We had the opportunity to enjoy a Couples Massage shortly after our arrival. LaShauna and Joleine made this experience a real treat. It is always so nice to return and be able to interact with a number of the same staff members we have thoroughly enjoyed in years past. Being able to spend time with Vanessa, Staci, Claudette, Delroy, and Cornelius makes you look forward to each day. These folks are so genuine and so much fun they make the saying “make you feel like family” a real thing. The food, as always, was great. The various choices available at each meal had something for everyone. The dining at both Chefs Choice and Lotus Leaf was again very enjoyable. As always, the time at the beach was something to remember. The area was always well maintained and again the staff at the beach made sure your time was everything you wanted. The two BBQ nights on the beach was something we will always remember. The addition of Rebecca to the staff made these nights even more enjoyable. Our trip as a group was something we had started planning quite some time previous to it actually happening. It was made special by the attention and planning assistance provided by Ms. Kadian MCPherson. I cannot thank her enough. The time spent at Sunset at the Palms was as always special. After several visits we can never see how it could be better. Again, it was. We look forward to our next visit.…
Booking with Air Transat went smooth and comfortable from booking, to airport check in, to take off and landing. Transfers as expected. A slight but welcomed delay as driver stopped to get entire bus KFC in Montego Bay which was great. Check in was fast and efficient. A short walk to all treetop rooms. 10-12 steps up and your in your room. Even for my wife and I, with knee and hip replacements it was a simple climb to a very comfortable room Room was exactly what you see on the website. Bed was comfy, plenty of pillows. Shower and bathroom were great. Only cons was the lattice style door which did not provide any privacy. The lighting was minimal and could have used more. AC, stocked fridge, housekeeping and balcony bed/chairs were all very good. Our room was near the road but night time traffic was minimal and never loud. Pool and bar area is small but comfortable and staff were attentive. Ocean is warmer than the pool. Buffet for breakfast and dinner was very good. Wide variety of fresh food to please everyone's pallet. Custom egg station in the morning and carving station for dinner showcasing a different meat/seafood each night. The heating trays at the buffet could have been warmer. Wonderful fruits, breads, desserts and sides always available. We experienced one night at the ala carte and were very satisfied. There was a piano bar for after dinner with singalongs. Several areas to sit and have a quiet drink. Lunch every day was at the beach for us. From jerk chicken, pork, fish to burgers and fries, and tacos was great. The beach was perfect with loungers, which were set up daily by staff for our group of 4 couples. Clear water, sandy beach, a flag system for drinks and awesome service all day. Fresh towels constantly. Palm trees and palapas when needed. Some vendors walking by but never a bother if you acknowledge them and say no thank you. We took a Catamaran excursion to snorkel, see caves and then to Ricks Cafe. Had lunch and returned to hotel at sunset for a beautiful picture opportunity. Overall the service, staff and food was one of the best we have had in Jamaica at any resort. The beach staff were amazing. The resort is small, quiet, 85 rooms, but the staff was extremely attentive in all areas. If you are looking for a quiet getaway with great service and food. This is the place. If your looking to let loose and party, this is NOT the place. …
First trip out of the US in years, spent my birthday here in Negril. Originally from Jamaica but never experienced Negril. The resort is wonderful from the VIP fast tracking at the airport to the food, the room and the catering from the workers at the resort. The Spa massages is to die for Ms. Brenda will the nicest massage that your body has been dying for. Amanda is the best at what she does at the front desk at booking all of your trips you want to do while you’re on vacation. Transportation Drivers Harry and Mr. Sinclair well respected individuals and very knowledgeable about the history of Negril. Overall the resort is very relaxing, quiet and just breathtaking. If you looking for a stress reliever and a quiet relaxing gateway with your significant other is the place to go. I will be returning next year. …
We spent 7 nights at this wonderful resort, and celebrated my wife's 50th birthday while there. There was literally nothing that we didn't find delightful about our experience. We arrived on a Thursday and were escorted to our cottage, which was very comfortable and had all the amenities we could want. We experienced the buffet for the first time and the quality of the food was superb. Our concierge was Amanda, who took a liking to us immediately and called us "Sunshine" the entire week. Our personal concierge was Shinnel who also took very good care of us. After a day at the pristine beach, we experienced the Chef Showcase our second night. Head chef Romaine was not only entertaining, but was very talented and treated us to many delicacies during the dinner, and took special care to cater to my wife's lactose intolerance, providing special items that suited her taste. Each day the selections on the buffet surprised and delighted our tastebuds, a special thanks to Syllan, who prepared many items but thrilled us with his Ackee Stew! We did the Rick's Cafe excursion one day, had lots of fun at this Beach Bar tourist trap, where the drinks and food were overpriced, the music too loud, and enjoyed watching a professional cliff diver do a triple from 75 feet! Tuesday was my wife's birthday, and I had arranged for the "Romantic Dinner" package, which started with Breakfast in Bed, continued with a Couples massage by the incredible and wonderful LaShawna and Brenda, and ended with a private dinner under a gazebo in the jungle. Mr. Mirie was our chef for the night, and DelRoy was our fantastic waiter, and both were absolutely delightful and again went out of their way to cater to my wife's food allergy. DelRoy was so wonderfully attentive and sweet as he could be...he searched us out the next two days just to say hello and make certain we were happy. Wednesday we treated ourselves to lunch at the Office of Nature, just about 50 yards down the beach, for a fresh lobster grilled to perfection. That evening, instead of the normal buffet, we were treated to a bamboo bonfire on the beach with a huge buffet of BBQ ribs, lamb shanks, chicken, pork and steaks with more sides than we could eat. It was the perfect last night to a beautiful week in what is now our favorite resort. My wife took advantage of the provided stand-up paddleboards and went out exploring three times while we were there, and every one of the staff were friendly, kind, and went out of their way to make our visit the best ever. I highly recommend Sunset at the Palms for those who are looking to relax, eat some great food, drink some great drinks, and have some fun without being subjected to a constant party atmosphere. Kudos go out also to Paul at the Piano, who is a fine entertainer and very nice person. One love and respect to the entire staff, we hope to return soon!…
Luscious green gardens all around the property. Cute duplex cabins on stilts with private patio. Built in 1975-76. Linstead the gardener is very justifiably proud of the natural landscape. Good food served daily via buffet. Reserve a dinner spot in the a la cart Chef Showcase, and the Lotus Leaf. Olivia and her peers kept the room fresh and clean despite the sand we somehow managed to drag in. The beach is across the road, which you cross with the help of a crossing guard. Bring a Floatie for the ocean, wear lots of sunscreen. Bugs are sprayed every evening and were not a problem. I suppose you could find nightlife if you wanted but we were content with the Piano Bar and a game of cards. Bring a refillable thermal cup and stainless straw for your drinks. Wednesday nights there is a fab BBQ on the beach which everyone attends. Cornelius, Claudette, Vanessa, Kevan, Kevon, Richard, Jason you made our stay a wonderful relaxing one. Thanks for the memories.…
Relaxing, quiet, and perfectly intimate. Please don’t change a thing, it’s exactly as it should be for those seeking quiet moments in a beautiful setting. The cooking class meal is a must - by far the most delicious food that we had during our stay and something that should be served more often on the buffet.
One of a kind experience in Jamaica!! The staff, food, amenities, beach, all around positive vibes everywhere we went. Big SHOUT OUT to the staff at the spa; Brenda, Joelena & Lashauna were all amazing at giving massages. They are so kind & create a tranquil experience. Honestly, all the staff deserve a recognition as they really make the place so positive.
