There is a reef just out of the swimming area. Be careful, as there are tourists renting small catamarans and other rafts in that area. And they are not expert sailors, so you'll need to watch out for that. You can also pay to go on a large catamaran that accommodates around 50 people on the North end of the hotel's beach. It's about $40 or $50 per person. They let you snorkel and they provide all the equipment you'll need.
