We stayed at the Diwali in Nov 2006. We were looking for a nice charming hotel in Guadeloupe, and we found it. The staff is very friendly, the owner is often present, the new restaurant served excellent local food, albeit the selection was light. The pictures on the hotel's website did not disapoint us. It is one of the only hotels in Ste-Anne that is right on the beach (along with the Club Med). And the beach is unbelievable. The coral barrier breaks the waves further in the ocean (what they call a lagoon), perfect for the family. Ask for one of the two deluxe rooms. They have a balcony facing the ocean, well worth the extra cost.

We stayed at the hotel for the whole week. Ste-Anne is nice but small. Be sure to retn a car so you can visit the many wonders of the island.

We just returned last night from a week at Le Diwali. It's a lovely little hotel right on the beach. Truly "right on the beach", and just a minute's walk from many cafes.

The common areas are so lovely that initially I was a touch disappointed with the room itself. I would recommend getting one of the "deluxe" rooms if you can swing it, but you likely won't spend much time in the room anyway, no? The rooms are small, but clean and pleasant. The deluxe rooms face the beach, ours faced a lot of trees bordering the tennis court of the neighboring condo building. Could be worse.

Breakfast, which is included, was simple but lovely (croissant, fruit, coffee). The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and other guests did what they could to help us along with our french (which is middle-school level in my case and non existant in my husband's). The website advertised a restaurant, but when we were there it wasn't operational, other than the continental breakfast. Supposedly, it's starting up in mid-January '07, but don't count on it and you won't be disappointed. You don't need it anyway, there are so many fun places to eat within a few minutes.

From a details standpoint, they could use some training (one of the light fixtures in the bathroom was missing, they don't replace the shampoo and soap, the door to the bathroom was hard to close, breakfast coffee sometimes cold). If you get hung up on those kind of things, well, frankly, Guadeloupe as a whole is not your kind of place. But the hotel is lovely, and what few shortcomings it has are more than compensated for by its many strengths.

We stayed 3 nights at Le Diwali in March. After reading some reviews we splurged and paid extra for an ocean front room. Gorgeous views. There are only two of them, but I think it was worth it. The hotel does not always have the gates open to the beach (they close them in the late afternoon) and it was nice to sit on the balcony of watch the surf. The owners speak good English and can make dinner reservations. They gave us the email of a guy named Stephan who runs a shared shuttle from the airport: stephgwada.sc@gmail.com He speaks English and will answer your emails promptly. That was 30 Euros for 2 people. So, with that in mind we waited to rent our car. The hotel is walking distance from many restaurants. There is a fridge in the room and a grocery store close by. We took the Norwegian flight and since we didn't get to the hotel until about 8:00pm we went to Le Lucullus for dinner. Make sure you have a previous reservation (the hotel can book for you). I really enjoyed the breakfast. You are served excellent fresh breads, croissants, fruit, yogurt, juice and cafe. The beach is really nice and I saw tons of fish just with my goggles. My only small complaint is that the hotel closes its gates with the view in the late afternoon and most of the day on Sunday. Yes, you have a key to leave, but the lobby is hot and stuffy with the doors shut. I think the hotel should pay someone to stay at the desk until 9:00pm. Other than that, I can't wait to go back.

Pros:Perfect location right on a perfect beach with clear water, white sand ocean bottom.Very close to shops, bars, and restaurants. Perfect.

Cons:Guests must be "very" low maintenance. Proprietors leave premises after breakfast....never to be seen again. Property very difficult to find, no signage.

All guests given a key to fend for themselves, reception closed.
Had a broken car, hosts made the initial call and left for the day. 5 hours later I'm still waiting for help because the car company couldn't find the hotel. Finally the lovely cleaning lady made some calls for me and stayed with me until problem was resolved.

I have been all over the world and have never seen such uncaring and irresponsible proprietors as this. SORRY

The photos are very misleading. First, there is a public beach/parking lot directly adjacent (like 20 feet) to the right of where all their photos end. The entire area is very noisy - filled with cars (until like 10 p.m. every night) each with its own huge booming speakers playing music. The beach is not at all private people walking back and forth and there is no way to actually place your chair by the water. The rooms are shabby (closet doors off the track, knobs and furniture worn, the floor was not well mopped my feet were filthy after walking back and forth a few times AFTER a shower) and the wifi is only working when the owner is there and using it. The ac is set to a high temp and in our second room did not work at all. The mousquito netting that you MUST use w or w/out a/c on, in one room was not big enough to fit over two people and filled with holes. We woke up covered in bites (and Zika is an issue in Guadaloupe). I think what I find most frustrating is that the photos are completely misleading and when you speak with the owner about these shortcomings she tries to make you feel like you are a bigot and not down with island culture when one thing has nothing to do with the other. Huge mistake!

The location of Le Diwali is nearly perfect on the beach of St. Anne-Guadeloupe although very hard to find as only a nearly invisibe signpost indicates where customers should find the closed doors which have to be opened with a numerical code. Perfect yes, at least for two rooms on the front of the building with a nice balcony ... but if you are unfortunate enough to have booked one of the 6 rooms in the back you will find yourself "locked" in your room starting from 5 pm in the evening or may be "only" 7 pm, because this is the time, when no service is available anymore and the nice terrace on the beachside with all public areas will be closed down by the owners or the "receptionist" and you are left to yourself. No bar service, the fridge in your room is empty and the only way to go to the (pretty) public beach nearby leads on a side path near the house. Definitely no "hotel" but may be sort of B&B or less (although the owners are friendly). May be OK for very independent travellers who want to remain alone and undisturbed, but for this the room price is much too high.

This is the only small beachfront hotel of Ste-Anne, and it is located away from the noisy heart of the town; both aspects give Le Diwali a lot of its value. Another key plus is the owner's warmth and professionalism.

Of course it is a small hotel offering sort of a bed and breakfast formula, so do not expect 24-hour service, high-tech suites and hotel restaurants delivering meals to your room. The owners serve you a nice breakfast in the morning - quite an experience to enjoy this by seaside - and then leave around 7 pm. With only a few other couples renting rooms, still having access to the nicely furnished and decorated zen-like lobby during the evening where we used to eat our meals ordered at small restaurants located nearby, it felt like we owned a nice villa by the sea!

Sainte-Anne can be noisy, especially during the week-end, but we stayed at Le Diwali for 10 days and most of the time, all we could hear at night was a calm breeze caressing palm trees and waves breaking on the seaside. Another plus was that part of the beach is privately owned by the hotel and enclosed within a nicely designed wooden fence - ensuring some intimacy impossible to get otherwise on such a popular white-sand beach. Our beachfront terrasse' view was dreamy and our room, although smallish, had a nice oldish romantic touch to it.

We strongly recommend! (Nath and Sylvain)

Just returned from Guadeloupe where there was a general strike throughout our stay - fortunately we moved on to Les Saintes before the rioting and looting started in Sainte-Anne! I don't think anyone should go to Guadeloupe for a few months in the circumstances.

I pretty much agree with everything said about the hotel and Thierry and Valerie. Its lovely, they're lovely and the breakfast is lovely although I paid over E300 for a sea view room and breakfast and would normally expect for that good towels, bathrobes and reasonable quality soap and such like which you don't get.

The main problem is Sainte Anne. While the beach is very nice and there is one ok restaurant - the Kon Tiki (I think) - open during the day I would say that there are no decent restaurants within walking distance of the hotel in the evening - so if you want a nice meal you'll have to hire a car and do whatever is appropriate about drinking and driving. Equally its not a town you really want to walk about in in the evenings. I think the Lucullus is pretty bad by any standards and not cheap for indifferent food. We actually preferred the pizza joint on the main street which provides an honest well-cooked pizza but that's not what you want every evening. (By the way, we did find nice places in Les Saintes and we did like walking about in the evenings there although it was pretty quiet because of the strike.)

I understand there are nicer towns such as St Francois. I'm not sure why the owners of Le Diwali picked Sainte Anne to set up in.

The location is perfect! You are just steps away from the white sand beach and clear water. If you want to explore the town, you can do that on foot too. I agree with the other travelers that you must be low maintenance. The staff usually leaves after breakfast which consists of juice, tea or coffee along with French bread, yogurt, and pastries with jams.

The rooms are neat and tidy, but you are only there to sleep. The WiFi is spotty as long as the gate is open. You are provided two access ports, but only one works and it does not work in your room. There were plenty of nights we stood at the gate in order to access the WiFi.

But don't let the lack of WiFi dissuade you from this hotel, it has everything you need like free parking, beautiful views, quiet location and just steps away from a beautiful beach.

We did not speak a lot of French, but a smile and a few elementary phrases will take you a long way...oh and google translate too.

Low key, relaxed, this is more a B&B than a hotel. 8 rooms situated next door to the most beautiful beach in Gran Terre. Charming, gracious hosts Jeanne and Philippe prepare your superb continental breakfast served at tables just steps from the Caribbean.
Rooms have AC, refrigerator, TV. Yes, it was hard to find (that's because I was never there before). Hosts are available until early afternoon, then you have the place to yourselves. We received a dinner recommendation from our hosts to a place a block or two away, and ate there 3 nights in a row. Stores near by. If you need to feel like you are in the USA, this place is not for you. If you wish to visit France in the Caribbean, come to Le Diwali.
