My wife and I have been to Punta Cana several times. We booked this resort as a last minute, cheaper, shorter stay than our usual trips. The resort overall wasn’t bad, but you get what you pay for. We could tell that it was one of the older resorts that has been slowly updated. It defiantly has some potential. First, let me start with the drinks. Out of every resort we have been too in Punta Cana, Cancun, and Playa del Carmen… these drinks were the best. By that I mean the strongest! We usually down a few when we get to the resort and we’re fine. We drank two and realized we had to slow way down. I can assure you, at least while we were there, they did not water down anything and they poured with heavy hands. I suggest trying the Whiskey Sour made with a Smokey Peaty Scotch. The Scotch is called Black and White I believe. I lived off of them while there! I never had a bad drink there! Check in was quick, we got the two-story condo room with a pool. That was a good choice. We dropped our luggage off with hotel staff when we got there and were given tickets. After checking in we went to our room and waited about 20 minutes for our luggage. I eventually called to see where it was at. I was told that it hadn’t been delivered because I didn’t tell them what room I was in. The guy was 20 feet from the check in desk so… it didn’t make much since. The room was nice and clean. Again, the room had some age too it. It was two levels and had a huge window that automatic curtains. That was a cool feature. The shower was a good size walk in and there is a jacuzzi big enough for two, and I’m not a small guy. The bed was a bit hard but manageable. One of my biggest complaints is that one of the air vents was directly above the bed. Thus, the condensation that built up on it dripped right on my head at night. I had to keep wiping it off. Three to four hours is was dripping again. Oh, and since it’s an older room, make sure you buy international power plug converters. There were only one or two American style plugs in the room. The pool outside was awesome and there was a table to eat at and two lounge chairs. One of them was broke. The food was pretty good but nothing extremely impressive. The portions were bigger than a lot of the resorts we went to. The restaurants were nice and well-kept but not everyone was open every night. I don’t think I can rightly tell you which restaurant was my favorite. The beach was well kept, and the chairs were comfortable. They only have people coming around offering drinks on the weekends. I thought that strange. However, there is a nice small bar right off the beach that was a short walk that, again, made great drinks. For some reason they did not provide towels on the beach. The towels could be provided about halfway back to the lobby. And you have to give them a special card, and you get the card back when you return the towel. Maybe this is a way they keep costs low, but it was a bit aggravating. There are some vendors out there that can get a little pushy. Just ignore them if you don’t want anything. If you walk to the right on the beach, there is a cool little shopping village with locals selling stuff. We went to “Wal-Mart”. I believe I’ll be posting a pic of it. As far as COVID goes, they did a great job. My only complaint is that they didn’t mention anything about the COVID test they offered. Granted it’s offered for free, and it’s really our responsibility, but we almost forgot about it and had to go seek it out. We were lucky to get in and out with nobody in front of us but it’ sonly offered for like 2 hours and we talked to some people that waited almost those 2 hours. When we were checking out another group was checking out and they lost her results. Not sure what happened but I do hope they found them.…
I spent 3 days in March and unfortunately this hotel is not good enough. I never seen such a terrible food like in the hotel, TERRIBLE. It was frozen food full of chemicals. Plus bad wine. The only good one is breakfast. The hotel promised to pay PCR tests for Americas and didn't pay (only for 2 hours a day and most of the people stay out during those hours to tours - 12-2). Don't recommend at all. Is not 24 hours services as promised. My friend paid for a water view room and didn't have as well. Anyway, I don't recommend at all
I was in Dominican Republic several times but was the worst. I'm sorry to say but the room was dirty. Smell and insects. Poor reaction from room room service. I was traveling with ITAKA operator. No help from their side. Suggest to find another place
Minor downfalls such as door that did not open/close very good and the window's lock that wasn't a lock. Overall a great stay, very nice restaurants and bars, friendly staff. The beach is good and the pools great!
This is our second trip to Catalonia Royal Bavarian this year. We can not say enough about the staff at this resort. Catalonia Royal is adults only and a beautiful property. The resort is not a large property, but a place where the staff knows your name, the people come from around the world and you leave with new friends. The pools are beautiful, the beach has cool breezes and the the drinks are delicious. (And I can be a diva when it comes to my cocktails). The rooms are clean, staff attentive, spa and gym available and food is good. A big shout out to Rosemary and Moses and all the staff for making our second trip to Catalonia Royal another great trip. We loved enjoying coffee in the morning in the big comfy chairs, lazy afternoons strolling the beach and lounging by the pool and evenings at new restaurants each night. We have visited other places in Punta Cana and found that the huge resorts are impersonal and overwhelming. Thank you Catalonia Royal Bavarian Staff! We appreciate all you do to make our getaway so special. …
