I loved this hotel! Definitely the best all inclusive hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The staff was amazing and super accommodating. The hotel is beautiful, the beach where the resort is located is wonderful and all the amenities are great! Amazing customer service from Junior and Marbel at the bar at the pool, they were always so helpful, catering and kind! Frank who we booked excursions through was super friendly and accommodating as well! Abessaird from POP always made the events and activities so much fun, We really enjoyed doing some each day! Also, Cecile our bellman was very nice and always so helpful! All staff was wonderful but these specific employees went above and beyond to make our stay amazing so thank you! Last but not the least, the food was amazing! Every restaurant we went to had a great selection and a high quality menu and the food was fresh and delicious!

Here's what we loved/liked about TRS Turquesa: 1. Proximity to the airport - The resort is just about 20-25min from Punta Cana Intl Airport, making for a quick transfer. 2. The grounds are beautiful - Upon entry, we noticed how lush the grounds were with different types of palm trees (hundreds of them, if not thousands!), and different flowering plants. TRS Turquesa sits on a stunning, verdant campus, and accentuates its beauty with the addition of wonderful Taino sculptures around the property. 3. The lobby - The TRS Turquesa lobby is modern, clean, and nicely decorated, with plenty of seating. The lobby bar is well stocked, and the drinks we received were great! 4. The beach - TRS Turquesa had plenty (if not too much) seating at the beach, with every pair of sun beds placed beneath cool palapa umbrellas. There was very little sargassum, and despite being on the Atlantic, the waves were calm (it helps that there is a massive reef right off shore to break up the bigger waves). We also loved that mere feet from the TRS Turquesa beach was a small strip of souvenir shops (selling art, clothing, rum, Mama Juana, etc), and hawkers selling parasailing excursions, etc. No one was overly bothersome, and it injected a nice, somewhat local vibe to the otherwise sterile nature that seems to plague many all-inclusives. 5. The food* - Sumptuori and Kusco were, hands-down, the best 2 restaurants on this trip. We've travelled to several TRS properties, and usually there are more options, but in dealing with Covid, TRS has done a decent job of providing decent options for its guests. Sumptuori is a Teppanyaki-style restaurant, and although the menu is a little dialed back, still great! Kusco is kind of an odd-ball - its a Peruvian fusion restaurant, offering a ton of Asian/Peruvian inspired seafood (and other) dishes. Everything we had was terrific! *- see further down for more. 6. The flow – The resort operates at a slower pace, which is fine when you’re on vacation. The genius of TRS Turquesa’s flow is that guests don’t usually have an issue taking in a little of everything. Our days began with a run, followed by a swim in our swim-up pool. Shower and dress for breakfast. Back to the room to...ahem, *have our morning constitution,* then off to the Zentropia pool for a bit, before transitioning back to the beach for a little fun, followed by a gorgeous sunset. Then, back to the room to shower/dress for dinner. Dinner always permitted time for some cocktails before, and then followed with the same, adding in a pre-show cigar. Then came the lobby show, which I rag on below, but can’t stress enough that the dancers are phenomenal, and the singers are talented, but forced to sing a strict playlist of terrible or dated songs, that more often than not, clash with the beautiful tropical setting TRS Turquesa is nestled within...how they don’t incorporate merengue or bachata into these shows should be criminal! ...I digress, but about the flow of things, we loved it. Many other all-inclusive resorts have a sort of frenetic pace, which we never felt at TRS. Here's what we thought could use improvement: 1. The transportation - Most TRS Turquesa stays include airport transfers. We found that, contrary to what our transfer confirmation stated, there were no signs with our names on them, no signs for the transfer company, and no signs for TRS or Palladium Hotels. The transfer company representative was literally at the last spot on the transfer/taxi/timeshare gauntlet we were forced to run upon our exit from the airport - and we only found him after finally asking a taxi driver where the transfer company representative was located. They brought us to the end of the gauntlet, and after 10min or so of waiting, a rep showed up and things got underway. We are a younger couple, so this may be a little overwhelming for older, or less-travelled couples or single travellers. It's a simple fix that TRS Turquesa should ensure for its guests. 2. The hotel facilities - I'll acknowledge that Covid has taken, and continues to take, a toll on hotels worldwide. That said, there are some aspects that still should have been addressed. The hotel rooms were clean - we stayed in 2 different room types (premium junior suite, and swim-up suites), but each had its issues: there were no bedside outlets available for charging phones without unplugging lamps, some of the wall-mounted lamps (or outdoor patio lights) did not work, the televisions are absolutely horrendous and not at all user-friendly, and the closet systems are dated and don't provide enough/convenient storage for modern travel. The main TRS Turquesa pool was nice...10+ years ago, but the tile pool is severely dated, with stained grout, missing pieces, and disgusting algae and algae stains on many surfaces. The swim-up bar remained closed for this stay, and was littered with dead insects, despite being attached to the open/staffed/functional pool bar, and staff would routinely interact with guests in the pool, but never saw fit to clean up the insect carnage. 3. Alcohol - TRS Turquesa advertises that its bars are stocked with top-shelf liquors. While the lobby bar, more or less meets this criteria, it was the only bar on the TRS property that was stocked as such. The main pool bar, the TRS restaurants, and the pool bar for the swim-up suites were stocked with well liquors. Even members of their "Palladium Travel Club" would only find liquors exclusive to membership hidden away at Bhogali (good Indian restaurant), and nowhere else. There should be a uniformity to liquor-types/availability at an all-inclusive that advertises itself as having such amenities, at all of its bars. 4. The beach - the beach is, as I wrote above, great; however, there are, in my opinion, too many palapa umbrellas. There are so many, that I found it hard to navigate between them all to even find an open set of chairs, and then found it impossible to see my belongings from the water. This is important because drink service at the beach was sparse and/or inconsistent, and it may be related to the fact that servers can't easily navigate the umbrellas to take/deliver orders, or clean up the empties. Also, on at least one occasion, a guest claimed their bag was stolen, and maybe reducing the density of umbrellas would not only organize the beach a little more, but increase the ability for servers to tend to guests. It would also allow security to keep a better eye on who comes onto the property. 5. The food - Sumptuori, Kusco, and Bhogali were good and we went back to each during this trip. La Boheme was disturbingly bad. It was awful. So much so, that one could easily see Gordon Ramsay spit his food out and berate the staff, had he eaten at Boheme. Our French onion soup was lukewarm, the broth was grey, there was not even a hint of flavour nor the presence of even a sliver of onion, and in the middle, floating around was a hardboiled egg. The fondue was ok, but contained more butter or oil than cheese. The salmon smelled overwhelmingly fishy, and it seemed as though the chef over-seasoned the fillet to hide that it had spoiled. Our whole group took a single bite, then walked out. Capricho is a disaster, too. The restaurant has no ambiance, and seems like a catering hall more than anything. The staff wore a mixture of uniforms...embroidered with the names of other restaurants we wished we had visited instead, and seemed not only disinterested in serving their guests, but they seemed to hold guests in contempt. Every item was served lukewarm, at best. The clam chowder seemed like they strained a bottle of milk through a fish carcass, then watered it down and put it in a bowl. Despite both Boheme and Capricho being "exclusive" TRS restaurants, the only cocktails we could order were gin and tonics. Capricho did serve what were essentially coconut shrimp, which had potential if they weren't served at room temp, and the lobster was good - but they split the lobster in half, and my halves did not match- one being significantly larger than the other, which was weird. The fact that they looked radically different was also...weird. 6. Breakfast - TRS Turquesa is a resort, where people from all over the world (and its many time zones) travel for rest and relaxation. Other TRS properties understand this, but TRS Turquesa seems to lag behind their sister properties especially when it comes to breakfast. Helios, which is usually exceptional, stops serving breakfast at 10am. So, on our first full day at the resort, we awoke hungry at 10am, and when we arrived to eat breakfast at Helios (as we've done at every single other TRS property), we were told it was closed until 12:30. It seems an easy fix to extend breakfast by a couple of hours, and to have an overlap between breakfast and lunch, so that the hotel maximises its use of a beautiful, ocean front restaurant (the only one at TRS Turquesa), and broadens its ability to serve guests. Also, for a locale that boasts having good coffee, the coffee at Helios was weak at best, and again, the staff seemed irritated or indifferent, which was a figurative slap-in-the-face every morning of our trip. 7. The butlers - TRS Turquesa advertises butler service. While this is a bit of a misnomer, as the "butlers" function as concierge, they do play a valuable role - getting you set-up in your room, making reservations, taking care of other requests, etc. At other TRS properties, the butlers introduce themselves when you arrive at your room (or, I've heard, beforehand via email, though we have not had this experience). At TRS Turquesa, despite being in a "premium suite" we didn't know we had a butler for the first three nights. There was no introduction, no explanation of amenities, etc. Once we moved to the swim-up suite, we met our butler, and everything got back on track. Again, its a little thing, but it is important for guests to know how to make a reservation, and to know what the property offers, and can make the difference between a mediocre visit, and one that would generate repeat customers, and positive word-of-mouth advertising. Here's what we thought of the nightlife. 1. Every night at 22:00, there was a 30min show in the TRS lobby. The show consisted of a DJ, a couple of male singers, and dancers. NASA could set their clocks by the almost surgical precision of the shows start/end times. The DJ played the acoustic version of drywall - inert, elevator-style music. The singers would come in and sing the equivalent. The dancers would come in and absolutely rock the place (seriously, they were amazingly talented), the singers would come in once more, and that would be it. TRS Turquesa has, in my opinion, the best dancers of all the TRS properties we've been to. They are a TREMENDOUS asset, but seem under utilized, with an equal or greater focus on altogether unremarkable singers, or bland DJs. TRS seems resistant to learning that guests want to be entertained, and watching elevator music performed live isn't entertaining. Watching beautiful dancers perform sometimes-breathtaking performances, and doing it to a variety of fun, lively, LOCAL music is - in every sense - what guests want. Here's what we thought about the Zentropia Spa: 1. The spa consists of several areas. We used the locker room, hot tubs, pool, Healthy Habits snack bar, and lobby. We arrived in the calm and welcoming lobby after making a reservation the day before. After a brief check-in, we made our way out to the pool, which is stunningly beautiful. Stunningly. It created a question, however, of how the spa could be so beautiful, but the main pool so...frumpish. The drinks and snacks from Healthy Habits were wonderful, as was the service from the lone employee at the snack bar, Santa! The hot tub was massive and comfortable. The cold-tub was a veritable death trap. Wear water shoes, and/or hold the railing for dear life as you descend the stairs, as we saw multiple people fall, and by the grace of God, no one broke an arm, hip, or their skull! Massage prices, as with everything, are negotiable, but expect to pay the same rates at TRS as you would in New York. Here's what we thought about the excursions being sold at TRS Turquesa: 1. TRS Turquesa seems to have contracted with Turissmo, who sub-contracted to other tour operators to sell "excursions" on property. These excursions range from parasailing, to horseback riding, to trips to Higuey, Santo Domingo, or elsewhere. We paid $40/person for parasailing, which wasn't cheap, but not prohibitively expensive. The outing lasted about an hour, and was the best experience for me, personally. We also did horseback riding, which was equally fun (though the visit to the "traditional Dominican house" was an absolute rip-off), and a trip to Santo Domingo (which I'll review in detail on a separate review, see Runners Adventures). Overall, everything was good, and the staff on property wasn’t overly pushy. Final words: In summary, TRS Turquesa was an overall average all-inclusive experience. The grounds are beautiful, and there is a TON of potential to make this a premium resort, as we heard it once was; but simple, easy to fix missteps detracted from its ability to deliver a better experience on this trip. That said, we are open to returning someday, and hope that, after Covid, the resort will find its footing again. One of the greatest obstacles is that it let go of most of its employees during the Covid shutdown - which saw the property wither, seemingly literally, for a lengthy period of time (2 of its sister properties on the same campus are still shuttered, the pools of which have now turned into veritable lagoons of bacteria, algae, and mosquitoes. I mean, seriously, why weren’t at least the pools drained if they were going to shutdown the hotels?), and saw tenured staff leave and not return. The absence of this institutional knowledge and customer-service oriented staff is palpable right now. Staff ranges from a very few that are wonderfully helpful and personable, to the many, who seem new, and seem to treat guests with disdain. As a result, this trip wasn't quite the premium experience we were sold on, and felt more like a mid-tier Holiday Inn than anything even remotely “royal,” as the TRS brand was built upon.

This was our second stay at Turquesa. We were celebrating our 52nd wedding anniversary. We got a room upgrade and Champagne and fruit tray delivered to our room. All the staff made us feel special. Our romantic dinner on the beach will always be a very special memory. We loved our room, especially that huge shower. My only suggestion, would be to install USB ports in the room for charging all the devices we seem to need. Helios is our favorite restaurant. I especially liked having breakfast on the patio, overlooking that beautiful ocean, enjoying champagne and a cappuccino. There were ample chairs on the beach, and the beach towels were very luxurious. My husband like to walk the beach and you can walk miles in either direction from the resort. We were disappointed that all the restaurants and entertainment were not open, but understand this was due to Covid and the resort still not at full capacity. All the staff were very friendly. The food was good and the drinks were plentiful. It is such a beautiful and relaxing resort. I highly recommend TRS Turquesa and would love to visit again.

Everyone at the resort was great. They were wearing masks and taking the covid protocols seriously, which put us more at ease (considering we needed to have a negative test before returning to the States). The bartenders and servers were attentitive and crafted us great cocktails served poolside! Can't ask for much more! We also enjoyed the little activities going on throughout the stay. We participated in a Mama-Juana tasting, a pool-bike spin class, and a bar tending class, all with hosted by the great Albert! The buffet at Los Torres serves great food, and had a sampling of the local Dominican flavors (stewed chicken and beef, rice and beans, and amazing fruit). The ala-carte restaurants left a lot to be desired. They were all beautiful, and the food looked very nice, but it lacked flavor and soul - it was extremely disappointing. The dishes are so close to being great, that if they can get this under control the resort will be elevated to another level. Overall, we had a fantastic time on our week long honeymoon stay in the Dominican! We will recommend TRS Turquesa and the Grand Palladium resort!
