The hosts were very welcoming and served amazing meals. Rene was extremely helpful while planning excursions. We could explore the entire property including the pool, chicken coop, and donkey enclosure. The rooms were cozy and clean. The hotel also included a guest kitchen with access to fresh produce from the gardens. Overall, our experience was unforgettable and we had a wonderful time!
My husband and I went to Puerto Plata for a short break. As we both do not like all-inclusive resorts at all, we were looking for a more relaxed place to stay. Due to the many fantastic reviews, we chose Charming Countryside Chalet and can confirm that the reviews reflect 100% of what you get. The hosts provided us with everything we needed, they were extremely accommodating and even went to Puerto Plata to set up 2 excursions for us. The hotel is well decorated and the view from the room to the sea over the infinity pool was perfect. We highly recommend staying here and have personally recommended it to our friends.
What can i say--Amazing place, fantastic people. It was our 26th wedding anniversary in February and so we decided on the Dominican Republic as February is one of the least humid months--it’s also carnival month and a prime time for whale watching. We don’t really go in for All Inclusive resorts and so after a bit of searching my husband found ‘Charming Countryside Chalet’. It sounded great and so we booked it well in advance as there are only 6 rooms. We are so glad we did. Rene was so helpful right from the initial booking of the room - all the way to our last day in the DR. Thomson(TUI) changed our flights twice, but it was no problem, even though we had to bring our holiday forward by a day Rene accommodated us. We were picked up at the airport by the driver Louis, so no waiting about for taxi’s. It was only a short journey from Puerto Plata airport. No long wait for transfers to All Inclusive resorts - perfect. We arrived at the property and couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. The pictures don’t do it justice. Lovely house with well thought out rooms (owners own design). The most stunning thing though was the gardens and views - it was like Eden. The pool was very natural looking and a really good size. Everything was in harmony with the beautiful location. Anyway we were met by Rene and his mum Brigitte - what a warm and genuine welcome. We felt at home straight away. Rene and his mum are Austrian but both speak great English (as well as speaking German Rene speaks French and Spanish like a native and to some extent Italian,Portuguese and Russian!). We were shown to our room which was room 1 at the front of the house - it was a lovely big room with a huge bed and a sitting area, a large area for clothes, and a great bathroom with both a walk in shower and a bath. There was a lovely big terrace room that had a connecting door to our room. Rene and Brigitte were very kind as they closed this room off so that we had private use of it. We had amazing views from both rooms of the gardens, the sea, and the mountain that overlooks Puerto Plata. We ate in-house on the first night and had a lovely Austrian speciality. We actually ate here 8 nights out of 14 and the food was always very good. The fried fish was really nice, spicy prawns were really good but best of all was the homemade pizza on the last night. Breakfast was enough to keep you full up till the evening meal. There were different breads, cereal, yoghurt, meat, cheese and a different style of eggs every morning, lots of home grown fruit and vegetables, fruit squash, and really good coffee. It was idyllic sitting outside eating breakfast and watching the wildlife. It was a special treat to see a hummingbird feeding at the nearby hibiscus bush. Like i said there was that much food you really didn’t need lunch. Unfortunately we did eat lunch on one day at a place on the beach in Puerto Plata. The food tasted great but I came down with pretty bad food poisoning. Again Rene and Brigitte were a really big help. Hubby ate in-house for the next two nights and had lovely meals, but i couldn’t face anything. Brigitte made me some herbal tea to help settle my stomach and when I did eventually go down for an evening meal Rene made me some scrambled egg on toast even though it wasn’t on the menu (and he very kindly didn’t charge for it). The maid came in every day, but obviously when I was ill she couldn’t, but we still got clean towels etc. Nothing was too much trouble. We wanted to hire a 4x4 while we were in the DR. So Brigitte kindly took us to the car hire place and waited with us until we got our own wheels. The car hire place was recommended by Rene as it was a lot cheaper than going to the airport and he was right - we got a good deal. We would definitely recommend hiring a car as it gives you a lot of freedom, and you see a lot more of the country. We had so much fun. We went down to La Vega and had a great time at the carnival, went whale watching in Samana (would recommend Kim Beddal’s WhaleSamana). We saw the waterfalls at Jarabacoa, did the cablecar up to Mount Isabel de Torres in Puerto Plata. We went down to Playa Grande as well as nipping into more local places like Sosua and Cabarete. Would 100% recommend a 4 wheel drive vehicle to cope with the varying road surfaces - some roads are good but some are absolutely full of potholes. You can book lots of excursions through Rene. We did horse riding on the beach with Ute at ‘Rancho el Contento’(see separate review). Also Rene is good at recommending places to eat. We actually ate out with Rene at one of the restaurants he suggested - Chez Arsenio(see separate review). What a good night, great company and wonderful food. We really can’t recommend ‘Charming Countryside Chalet’ enough. Had a fantastic stay here - it was more like staying with friends than staying at a guesthouse. A big thank you to Rene and Brigitte - we had a great time.…
Before anything I'd like to thank Rene and Brigitte for such wonderful attentions and the amenities provided to my family and I. We are looking forward to go back on our next family trip! Great location, great food!!! GREAT PLACE!
Where to start, me and my wife decided to go on a quick get away vacation. We're from Peru and even though we have beaches and lots of mountains I must say that we had an espectacular time, specially if you're a nature lover, we completely enjoyed everything. We loved going horse back ridding, people at the hotel were very nice and helpful, they guide us everywhere we needed to go. I must say I would recommend this place to everyone I know.
Everything about this place is top notch. It's spacious and clean, the guest kitchen is well equipped, the garden is well maintained and the pool is huge. You are well looked by the family running it. It's like home away from home. We had an amazing time there. We will definitely come back to stay there again.
A lovely getaway close to the mountains. Very nice breakfast with everything you could dream of. The location is very peaceful, with walks round the estate if wanted. Lovely swimming pool. Very clean rooms, cleaned daily. Friendly and attentive service, gorgeous views and relaxed atmosphere. Dinner was excellent and the owners cook according to your preferences, lots of different choices on the menu. A must for food lovers. Not a suitable venue for children so an ideal quiet retreat in the hills. A lovely hotel in perfect setting.
My husband and I went to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and we had an awesome time. This place really delighted us, Briggite and her son Rene are incredible hosts always looking out for you and tending to your every need. They made us feel like royalty and really go out of their way to make you feel at home. The food was very high quality and excellent, taking into account we are both vegetarian, and there were delicious vegetarian options available. The place is a paradise in the middle of the mountain where one can really appreciate a breathtaking view of the ocean and the muountains. This is an excellent place to relax and enjoy nature. Being nature lovers we were delighted to be completely surrounded with beautiful exotic flowers and fruits and we particularly enjoyed socializing with all the animal residents including Rendy and Ronny very nice rottweillers, the beautiful ducks who have their own space and pond, and a very nice, and simpathetic donkey named Bruno. The rooms are so clean and beautifully decorated and very spacious. There is hot water with great pressure at all times. What else can I say about this paradise? We truly recommend and will most definately be back soon.…
First in Icelandic: Charming Countryside Chalet er einn fallegasti gististaður sem ég hef á ævinni komið á. And then in English: Trust the other reviews! This place is heaven in every possible way :)…
We luckily found Charming Countryside Chalet online after spending a few days at a terrible all inclusive, an hour's drive away. Rene and Brigitte saved our holiday! The property is beautiful with huge, tastefully decorated rooms and the grounds stunning, secluded and peaceful; the donkeys, geese and geckos a welcome addition! We could not have asked for better hosts in Brigitte and Rene, who were warm and welcoming; nothing was too much trouble. We had mentioned certain food intolerances and were greeted with specially made homemade bread on arrival! The food in general was varied and delicious and a great selection was laid out for the breakfast, included. Excursions are also available and Rene was only too happy to assist with transport (patiently hanging around waiting as the locals operated in 'Dominican' time). We could not recommend Charming Countryside Chalet highly enough and could only wish for a CCC in every country we visit! Their hospitality is unsurpassed. Thank you again, Rene and Brigitte! …
