The apartments are large and equipped with stove, oven and fridge. A cooling breeze blows through the screened windows. Smaller and cheaper rooms are available. Great place to meet people from all over the world. Dentistry work is much cheaper here. The host and all of her staff are friendly and helpful. Karaoke and billiards are part of the entertainment. Its easy to go into the city or do grocery shopping.
In the tropical forest, like inside of it! All apartments are of Dominican comfort, I call it volontary simplicity, one appartment is the eagles nest, top of a house next to a beautiful river, 360° open to the jungle canopy and river 30 feet below , from your bed you can see , cameleons, cat chasing lizards, folks playing pool , others swimming in the super clear river. It's not the RITZ , but the place has all you need, super safe, wifi, Not for the faint of heart!! You're in the jungle !!!, Lots of critters of all kinds , everything you can imagine is there, I love it, Nature lovers Paradise.
In November 2019, I came to SunCampDR with hope and confidence, as it had been recommended to me. I intended to stay for 4 months and work on my laptop during my stay. I found that the apartment I was assigned to (which was a so-called upgrade - but I was not told of the difference in price at the time) did not meet basic hygiene standards, in particular the kitchen and bathroom. Insects of various types were crawling all over the place in spite of the regular spraying of insecticide. Mushrooms were growing out of the kitchen floor. Night after night, large animal droppings were to be found on the kitchen countertop. A large trail of ants crawled through the bedsheets. I had to hang the sheets and blanket outside all day and hope they would be gone come night time. It was said that food could be bought inexpensively from the residing cook. That was true. My first and only meal there came with a long black hair decorating the plate. The apartment was rented all furnished and equipped. Need I mention that the kitchen equipement was scarce and consisted of pots and pans I could bring myself to cook out of. I had to acquire some new ones. I'll pass over the rest, but wish to warn potential visitors that long term rent is non refundable, something I did not know and did not see mentioned anywhere in the literature or on the Web Site. I found it out at my own expense. Less than 2 weeks after my arrival, I had to return home urgently because a family member was said to be seriously ill. Not knowing the gravity of the situation, I terminated my stay and lost 4 monts rent paid in advance. The owner offered me a month's refund, but because of the price difference mentioned above, and of which she had not told me before, I ended up with a mere hundred dollars or so refund, out of twelve hundred canadian, and that for less than a two week stay. After a few days, I found out that the person ill was not in immediate danger and asked the owner of SunCampDR permission to return eventually and resume my stay. It was declined. That leaves a bitter taste and that is why I do not recommend renting for more than a month in advance at most, so as not to loose too much should you have to leave unexpectedly. We never wish for such a thing to happen, but it does.…
Wonderful accommodations surrounded by jungle and mountains. A great combination of wild nature and comfortable lodging. Scenic views 360°, spacious clean and cool apartments equipped with fans, hot water showers and mosquito nets. We booked one night but ended up staying for 3! Absolutely loved the place and the owner Diane who is very helpful and fun! Diane arranged horseback riding in the mountains for us with a local guide, which was a fantastic experience. Please keep in mind that it's not a beach front, there is a river on the premises but the water level depends on the rains. We had a motorcycle so getting to the beach or town was easy ,otherwise Diane will help you to get around ( there are local buses). A great place that will provide you with tranquility away from the chaos.…
I spent a night in jail once. It was nicer than most of the rooms she had available. The one room that was livable was way overpriced compared to furnished ocean front apartments available here. I thought the first breakfast sandwich would be complimentary since there was nothing else to eat when you wake up hungry in the jungle with no idea where else to eat. And there was no one with a sign to greet me at the airport when I arrived. I was lucky that someone working at the airport knew where her place was to get me a taxi there. Kind of messed up first time in a Spanish speaking country, having no idea where to go, or how to get out to get something to eat.
If you search for “lost” place near Puerto Plata and don’t have to high demands on material level then definitely this is a perfect spot. The camp is hidden away from the crowds just behind the river which really gave you opportunity to relax. Owner and all others are super nice and ready to do what ever is needed that you feel as good as possible. I had an honor to stay in modern room with air condition and nicely decorated place. Definitely recomended place for really economic price.
If there would be one Place in the world, which deserve the Name "Paradise" , for me it would be Diane's Suncamp. Peaceful, quiet, beautiful Nature, awesome people and a lot of things to discover. During my 4 weeks at Suncamp, i never feeled bored . Everyday I made dozens of experience and learned something new. For example how to dance Bachata. The Suncamp have a delicious Restaurant including a bar at the beautiful River Munoz. If you want to have a good talk and maybe one or two drinks , it's the perfect place to start the evening. Or you just go 2 Minutes and arrive in the Village Munoz, where the friendly locals are celebrating too. The Employers were also very friendly and helped me whenever I had questions. If you want to do some awesome Trips, like the 27 Waterfalls, they can give you a lot of informations... The Rooms which i saw were all in good condition and everything was clean. I would strongly advise that Place to everyone , who want to see the Real Dominican Republic and loves the Nature.…
We went there from nov to dec 2016 for volunteering and vacation. it was a heavy raining season i guess :D But it was a funny and great adventure all the time. Samuel and Diane are so nice and helpful. We shared nice evenings with them and the others we met. Of course it is not a resort or something like that, but when one is up to nature and atmosphere, that's the place. I am sure we will get back there some day :) Greetings from germany
I stayed there for one month mid Jan to mid Febuary. I just wanted a place where I can relax and kill time of the cold Toronto winter. I met Sam the son of the owner Diane a good young man he showed me around and drove me into Puerto Plata to drop me off at a local grocery store. Now you must understand that if this is what you want if you travel and stay there . Yes there is open air and there is insects as it is a rain forest with a lot of vegetation. You want peace and quiet you can get it if you want a party or to get a bit excitement you can get that too. Its only a 5 minute drive down the mountain into the city. Myself I had a driver Darrel he will drive you anywhere at a fair price he picks you up and drops you off. I even got to see the Super bowl in Cabarete good experience he only charged me a thousand pesos there and back very fair that's like $25 CN you cant be too critical of Suncamp if you have any travel experience and you enjoy the resorts that's fine too enjoy the pool but if you like the country and scenery and a jump in the Munoz river its a good feeling too if you are into the camping like trip. My advice try it for a week if you need more there is plenty condos and hotels at a good price all you have to do is ask around. I will returning there again because of like I stated it has the best of both worlds. Plus you can arrange horse back riding dune buggies scooter rentals and excursions are not too far..…
My teen daughter and I stayed here for 2 months, last year. The apt we had was a 2 bedroom. Open and airy. However, we LACKED privacy and the neighbors could hear your every move and sounds. Because the windows did not have glass in them. Smoking is allowed outside your apt. So, when your neighbor smokes, it blows into your apt. Their idea of socializing is playing pool, smoking and drinking alcohol. Toward the end of our stay, we sensed a bit of distrust from the owner and her son. She actually accused us of stealing her pillows and sheets. I had returned them to the laundry attendant the 1st week there. I had to purchase new bedding the first week we arrived, because they were damp, smelly, moldy and had bugs on them. When we checked out, I had dumped the bedding, I had purchased. My daughter and I were shocked and amazed, she didn't believe, what I had said. So, if you are sleeping on light pink sheets, they maybe mines.. I am sure she retrieved them from the trash can. I am waiting on an apology, Diane/Diana Overall, we enjoyed the grounds and the long walks outside the camp..…
