I am going to share information that I wish I had prior to booking this trip. First, this is part of a very large property and the residence suite is like the getting tickets in the nosebleed section of a sports game. The overall property is very nice, the beach is beautiful, the people are friendly and the food was delicious. We had no trouble getting reservations to the onsite restaurants and they were all good. Even service on the beach was good, and you could even walk up to a sushi bar on the beach for lunch. What was not so good were the accommodations. We were traveling with another couple and were shocked to find out the two bedroom "suite" had only one bathroom. The suite was very small and not comfortable. There was really no comfortable place to hang out and we couldn't figure out why they wasted space with an eat-in kitchen in an all inclusive resort. There were no dressers and just a few hangers so we lived out of our suitcase for the week. There was no place to even hang a wet towel. The "living room" area was so tight you could not get to the rather uncomfortable couch without banging your knees into an oversized coffee table. Maybe other rooms were better than ours. Luckily we are good friends with the other couple or it would have been awkward to share a bathroom! The other thing is that we were lied to by a guy who initially introduced himself as our "concierge" and then arranged for us to take a tour and hard-sell job that we absolutely did not want and told them from the beginning that we were not interested. We actually wound up walking out of the presentation after he promised us it would take "20 minutes' and the salesgirl told us she would need us to stay for at least 2 hours. I guess we missed out on some kind of gift because we did not stay for the presentation but all we wanted was to relax on the beach! If you go, enjoy the double decker cabanas on VIP beach and take advantage of the service. We agree with someone else who recommended giving tips - you will get treated very well for $5!

Hotel's Favourite
I had read some sketchy reviews about this property recently, so I was a little concerned, yet we found it to be a great experience. The food was absolutely excellent. Even the buffet spots we're really good. The a la carte restaurant options were excellent. As we were there for 2 weeks we tried them all. Some of them weren't exactly our type of food yet the ones we did like were awesome. Really enjoyed the Brazilian steakhouse (Radizio) and Trapiche. Of the multiple areas within this whole resort area, the Residence/Crown suites are easily the quietest which was a treat. Staff was super friendly and very helpful if we needed anything. Our air conditioning kicked out one night so our room ended up with water all over the floor and walls from the humidity and they had it cleaned up even before we had finished breakfast. Timeshare sales folks weren't too aggressive and once we passed on their offers, they left us alone. Only thing that is difficult about being there is the shuttles take forever as they have to stop at all resorts. We ended up just walking everywhere which was actually easier. That would be a very difficult walk though for seniors or those with disabilities

The staff and all of the people we encountered were excellent!! Our only issue was we could order food to our room. Each day we were supplied ample bottled water, a bottle of Pepsi and Sprite. However the food was very good and the service was great at all of the restaurants. Make sure you reserve dinner for a week at a time as reservations fill quickly. But buffet's were great also!!

WE had an amazing time, I plan this trip for our anniversary getaway and decided to ask my sister and her husband to come along as they have never traveled before anywhere. There Anniversary was 10/19 and my Anniversary was 10/06. It was there 20th and I wanted to make it extra special for them and it was. T he resort did everything and then some to make this special for us all but for my sister and husband they made it amazing and I must say I loved every minute we were there and yes we will go back again.

We really enjoyed our 1 week stay here. Room was clean and roomy and always nice and cool. There's a TV in the living room with a couple english speaking channels, but no TV in the bedroom. Staff was friendly, and ready and willing to answer our questions. Languge barrier sometimes makes things difficult, but most employees know enough to help english speaking visitors. Once you get accustomed to this large resort, you'll find plenty of places to go, some busy and some quiet. The terrain is very hilly with a lot of stairs throughout, so be prepared for some exercise. There is always a trolly available if you don't mind waiting a few minutes. The beach areas we visited have nice cabanas to relax on, along with plent of beachchairs, and a bar always nearby to get your drinks! Very friendly staff by the pool areas (Blackie is awesome!) to come over and say hello and try to get you engaged in activities and games that are scheduled (no pressure). Food is really good from breakfast to dinner. Omelettes (or fried/over easy eggs) are always available for breakfast, and the smaller venues ( not the Peal or Casablanca) usually have bacon available too. They have a lot "sausage" available, but to me it all tastes like hot dogs. There are plenty of other options though. Lunch is always good, usually consisting of a chicken dish with plenty of sides and also another protein. Pizza was good too. We had dinner everyday at a different restaurant where we had made reservations when we first arrived. You can do that between 9am-10am everday, and make them for your whole stay when you arrive if you prefer. Not every restaurant is open every day, so work with the staff to try to get them all in. Rodizio was our favorite, but we enjoyed them all. We didn't get to try the mexican/Dominican eats. There is a show available every night in the outdoor "collosseum" at 9:30pm, weather permitting. All the shows are a fun way to wind down for the day and there is a bar in one corner to keep you refreshed. BTW, I'd recommend visiting ALL the bars during your stay. Some have top-shelf liquor available (Presidential, Casino) and you can even find Heineken in a few, but you'll have to ask. Overall this resort is a great value! We are hoping to return next year with our entire family!!

I've read some varied reviews on the Residence Suites, and I always have to wonder...what do you expect considering the cost? We received what we expected regarding accommodations. A touch outdated, but clean and perfect to escape the heat when needed. What we didn't expect the first time we traveled there was how awesome the staff was, and frankly everything else. We've traveled to extremely nice posh resorts in different destinations, and we've stayed in budget resorts. Residence is the perfect sweet spot for us. We don't spend hardly anytime in our room, so we've never been too concerned about the room details as long as it's clean and apportioned with a decent bed and some amenities like a fridge, clean towels, etc. That it is. It's not dumpy by any means, and it's not Taj Mahal. It's a nice, clean, large two bedroom unit that feels carribean and is perfect for us. We also had a lovely patio that looked over the pool with good privacy. The restaurants all have great food, and our favorite is the buffet(s) that don't require reservations. We tend to go to one consistently, which gives us the chance to form a relationship with some of the servers. We tip what we would have left for a tip in the states for a similar meal. Yes, you read that right- we tip. It sickens me that so many people don't even leave a dime. What does our US tip policy get us? OUTSTANDING service every single time we come. That's what makes our experience so amazing. We do the same thing at the pool. We go to one pool, we get to know the bartenders, and take care of them with healthy tips at the start of the day. We then get treated like rock stars. We also tip the line workers at the food stations. When we come in at meal time, they have a big smile on their face, as we want them to know that we recognize their awesome service and a few extra bucks might bring a smile to their family when they get home from feeding us. We don't leave the room cleaning staff empty either. We bring a bag or two of American hard candy/suckers with us, leave a $5 tip and a couple suckers every day. We also bring enough suckers to that when we pass by a maintenance man or staff that doesn't get to interact with staff- we give them little gifts during the week. Then for special staff, we bring some things as a gift for them at the end of the trip- we bring some maple syrup, T-shirts from our area, etc. See, I recognize that as Americans, we tend to be gluttonous when we go on vacation, and sometimes demanding to a point of being rude. That being said, when vacationing in 3rd world countries where the majority of the population is starving, it's a great opportunity for us to humbly share some of our rich blessings and show some love to those working so hard to treat us with so much authentic kindness. We've been here several times, and I can confidently say it will be the only place we will go to now in the Carribean. The staff is like family, and it's a beautiful area surrounded by sun, sand and water. What more do you want? Oh- a quick plug. We do get off campus every visit. We've developed a relationship with a cabby that speaks great English and takes us about town during the day to visit different areas- area shops, local restaurants, etc. We love to go to Big Lee's on the malacon for traditional fish and chips. Big Lee is a former Chicagoan engineer turned restauranteur- he operates a lovely little beach cafe that has a million dollar view and ice-cold beer to accompany the incredible fish and chips. He also financially supports a crap ton of poor kids by helping to get school supplies and Christmas presents for them. He's an amazing guy. I would also encourage anyone visiting the Dominican to visit one of the schools or orphanages that offer education to the local Haitian and Dominican children. If even for a short visit to share some candy, your soul will be fulfilled with love and an understanding of what it means to be really poor. I know it's kind of a buzz-kill when vacation is meant to relax and forget about the troubles left behind...but holy cow, the love those kids show when faced with a life of poverty, and the selfless dedication the teachers have is nothing short of extrordinary. It's the highlight of each trip to spend time with those kids. In closing, I give Residence Suites 5 stars. Clean, fun, fantastic staff. Do your homework regarding reservations, remember you're in a tiny country racked with poverty like most Carribean nations, do your homework as to what is and isn't included, and don't get offended by the sales guys trying to get you to a spa or a tour of the property. They're just trying to feed their family! And finally, don't make assumptions about amenities just because you've gotten free golf carts at other resorts. Every resort is different and there might be some things that aren't included in your package...like golf carts. Do that, and you'll have a five star vacation full of great memories!

I have stayed a several all inclusive 5 star resorts in the Dominican and Mexico. I had high expectations. These expectations were not even close to being met. Before I give details, I want to highly praise Jordi at the Residence front desk, as well as Jose, the "bellman" and fantastic cart driver, from Cofresi - two amazing souls, outstanding in every way. The management and staff at the Brazilian and Thai restaurant - also fantastic. The dominican people are a class of their own - warm, welcome and compassionate ..and the reason we continue to return. 7 days prior to our arrival for our honeymoon, a 2 week stay here... I called to arrange airport pick up, only to be told we needed to make that arrangement 2 weeks prior, and there would be no pick up for us, we would need a taxi, at 65$ No other resort I have ever stayed at required airport transfers to be arranged 2 weeks in advance. 2 days was always standard. We paid the fare, and arrived. Only to be told internet is extra, even in our room.. we had to pay for it.. We quickly found out we could only use certain restaurants, pools, and beaches even though we paid the all inclusive fee. Putt putt, tenis, bikes, non motorized anything, all extra. The nightly entertainment was included. The entertainers were amazing, they worked their butts off every day all day at the pools, then at the show in the evening. The shows were high school musical quality, at best. No fault of the entertainers - but given the environment they were given to work in and with - no the Vegas style shows Id experienced at other resorts such as Palace and Hard Rock. The resort itself is in disrepair, old, and needing a lot of work. All the paint is old and chipped, roofing old and falling off, areas boarded up, trash everywhere. The pools had chunks of concrete missing, I cut my foot a few times. Bar service at the pools - expect weak pina coladas, sex on the beach, and presidente beer - if you ask for much more they cant make it. The VIP beach and cabana area has the better bar service and a sushi bar that serves 4 very basic rolls and thats it. Mamajuana is delicious. The Sangria at the Thai and Asian restaurants is very good. The Thai, Asian and Brazilian restaurants are by far the better ones. Great service, great food. We were warned off the Mexican and Dominican restaurants by other guests. The Blue Lagoon was "ok" but the service was bad. You must make reservations when you arrive for the whole week. Our room... building D room 32 in Residence... first - NO elevators - 3rd floor room. Fine - we did the stairs no problem. But, just so you know, none of the building have elevators. It was INSANLY loud. We nicknamed the road directly behind our building a race track. Mopeds, busses honking and zooming at all hours -well, until they tore the entire road up and started rebuilding it. That shook things off our walls and we finally requested to move. The window in our bathroom didn't shut all the way, which kept the entire room HOT and smelling of car exhaust and our toilet never flushed. Super gross. Half of the light fixtures didn't work. It had an air of circa 1985 and run down. The patio was nice. The size of the room was nice. Oh, you have to pay 3$ a day to use a safe in your room. We moved to building B room 31 - much better - no bathroom window, the AC worked GREAT and the toilet flushed. Still circa 1985, but at least everything worked and it was more comfortable. You will have to beg for extra wash cloths or towels. You're allowed 2. It took 4 days to get an extra pillow - I just had a hip replacement and must sleep with on between my knees. I used the living room futon pillow. Would I go back? Knowing what I paid for my vacation vs what I got - honestly I probably would. But, only because I know going into it I have to pay extra for everything, and its NOT 5 sta. The two beaches you are allowed to visit are nice, and the cabanas are currently free. The food at that Asian, Brazilin and Thai was good. The buffets are open air and HOT. On weekends they are insanely overcrowded with shoving, rude people. Proceed knowing what you are getting into, and you will enjoy yourself. A five star resort this is not.

Besides the high quality food, dining and accommodations that i have come to regularly expect when I travel, this resort took me to a knew level of enjoyment and customer satisfaction. I have never experienced a more friendly and delightful staff at any resort I have visited. Every day was filled with pleasant greetings and outstanding service. The attention to the quality of our experience was foremost with the staff, and i have nothing but praise for them. Specifically, the whole crew at the Residence Suites: Annabel, Jordin, Melvin, Louis, Daniel, and special thanks to our housekeeper Antia. Excellence all around.

We stayed at the Residences and Suites hotel section. The rooms were ok. Call it 2.5 or 3 stars. Less if you don’t like extra hard mattresses. As an all-exclusive they go alllllll-in on collecting your money but providing little quantity and horrible food and drinks. To say the food was 1 star would be extremely generous. Mgmt has rules for everything and the customer is seldom right. Walk away!

We checked in on a Saturday. We were not able to make dinner reservations until Monday. We had a group of 10 family members raging from 76 to 12. I have had both knees replaced and have asthma which makes it impossible to walk hilly areas. I ate stale muffins that I brought for dinner Saturday and Sunday nights. The other members walked to the only buffet we had access to. They reported it was inedible. We tried to get the shuttle. One group of 6 had waited over an hour for the shuttle from the Suites. When it finally came there was no room as it was terribly overcrowded. No one at our resort cared. A big concern beside the inexcusable lack of shuttle service is the poor selection of food. One of our kids is Celiac. Breakfast with egg dishes was fine. The other meals had very few options. Another member is Type 1 diabetic. It was very difficult for her to find healthy, low carb options. We had 3 2-bedroom suites. (Several members were unable to go because of positive Covid tests.) The suites were next to each other as I had requested. Two king sized mattresses were provided. The kids were able to place pillows in the middle to create 2 beds. The beds were comfortable. The “kitchen “ was bare basics. No microwave and a small fridge were provided. Clean towels were provided whenever needed. Wi-Fi is an additional charge but you can have one hour a day for free. Service was poor. The beach areas and pools were very nice. ***Beware of Jose and his friends. The first morning he knocked on our door awakening both of us. Not a good start! He waited until after breakfast to offer us a quick golf cart tour of the property. As it is a large area we stupidly agreed. He took us straight to the beautiful sales center where we were introduced to Harold. A horrible annoying pushy sales person. I was livid. He held us captive for 2 hours. We saw several beautiful areas. We had no idea where we were as we had just gotten in the night before. We have attended several sales pitches over the years but this was the most despicable experience ever. Our reward was 2 small bottles of the cheapest rum. The lack of transportation, the lack of decent food the first 2 nights and the repulsive sales pitch set the tone for terrible start. Our 2 sons and their families left 2 days early because of this. As the week went on things got better. The dinners with required reservations were decent. Six family members went snorkeling on the catamaran and loved it. All in all avoid this resort as an RCI exchange.
