I had the pleasure of staying at the Casa New Yorker in Santo Domingo on December 23, 2007 until January 5, 2008. The hotel is NOT the Marriott. It is a locally run, small hotel with only 9 rooms. Every morning the guests, management and owner got together over complimentary

"Try for a room at the back as the street is noisy enough as are most of the streets near the colonial zone."
"If you want quiet tell them. The roof is the place to go and sit with friends and order drinks from the colmodo across the street."
"Rooms in the back away from the street offer better tranquility."
"Room 1, 6 and 7 are larger, I like 3, 5 and 8 which are medium size but inexpensive!"
"The room upstairs by the corner is nice but I usually stay in Room 5 downstairs"
