A friend and I loved the sound of this historic tiny hotel and museum. We were overjoyed to discover wonderful, friendly service, a gorgeous and lush courtyard oasis, a private roof top patio and a cozy, beautifully appointed room. We only stayed here for two nights, but would go back for more in a heartbeat. The beds had excellent quality...

As we were getting married in the Colonial Zone we wanted a venue to host, look-after and wow all our guests. El Beaterio was our first choice. It is a truly beautiful hotel with plenty of rooms of different sizes to suit different couples, families and individuals. The rooms are incredibly pretty – colonial in style, clean and large and...

Unique boutique hotel. Perfect for 2 or 3 nights. We were there for a week and that was too long for the amenities of the hotel. The bed was comfortable, nicely decorated room. Bathroom was small but more that adaquate. Beautiful tile work. The room was spotlessly clean. As others have mentioned it would be nice to have an actual...

My wife and I stayed here and really liked it. This is an old nunnery built in the early 1500's so it has the feel of the old world, but the air conditioning was brand new! (though the TV was a little less modern). The staff was friendly and helpful even if their orientation required a couple of extra visits,...

We stayed here at the beginning and end of our trip to the Dominican Republic, and it was perfect for our needs. The really lovely and informative staff made our stays wonderful. Located in a central location in the colonial zone, it's perfect for walking tours of the historical sites and museums. It's an intimate place, with a small, lush...

I spent two nights here. This place truly deserves the title "boutique". It ticks all the boxes (cleanliness, breakfast, decoration). It could also be a museum in its own right, which adds a nice atmosphere. It is also very close to top sights and good restaurants.

A very small hotel in a historical building located in Zona Colonial - right next to the Parque Duarte and just a few short blocks from the cathedral and Calle El Conde. The breakfast layout is a little sparse, but they do cook eggs to order which was a huge plus. The staff (both at the check in and breakfast)...

The location is beautiful in an old building. I really liked the history they tell about the place. The room is lovely but ours had no window. I hadn't read about that on any website. We were only here for 1 night so it was ok, but if we stayed here longer I would have felt locked up. The room...

Live the experience of being in the colonial capital by staying at El Beaterio, a charmingly restored convent. Each comfortable room is unique and opens onto a lovely courtyard. The bathrooms are roomy and well equipped with places to put your necessities. The breakfast is ample and nicely presented -- you can order eggs prepared the way you like them....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
XVIth century old convent, El Beaterio witnesses the history of Santo Domingo for almost 500 years. Faithfully restored in keeping with the original charm and architecture of its period, this quaint and private hotel offers its guests a unique atmosphere of the inimitable Dominican art de vivre. Nested in the heart of the colonial city, El Beaterio offers eleven coquettish and sober rooms, laid out around a flowery colonial interior patio. Between its stone walls, it’s a peace oasis in the middle of a vibrant and enlivened city. Established in 1530 with the beatas given the task of collecting girls of all ages, Spanish and mixed race, lost on Earth». You’ll find out what a beaterio is, and you’ll learn about the religious figures responsible for its foundation in Santo Domingo. You’ll discover two residents of El Beaterio, Sor Leonor de Ovando and Dona Elvira de Mendoza, first poets of the New World. Since 1990 when UNESCO declared the Colonial City of Santo Domingo as “World Heritage Site”, El Beaterio is classified as “building of documental, historic and architectural value”. In 2016, El Beaterio is officially recognized as Dominican Republic’s first hotel-museum by the Ministry of Culture. ... more   less
