This is advertised as an adults only resort but in the past we have seen children around 13 and up. This made us uncomfortable as it was not as advertised. It does not matter who the client is adults only means adults only
Just recently returned from Royalton from our 8th visit to this amazing hotel. The food and drinks were perfect as always, sometimes odd shortages but be patient wait a few days and its usually sorted. The beaches lovely as ever, kept spotless by the staff, if you want shade the guys on the beach will always find you some no shortage of umbrellas or beds when we were there. Nightly entertainment either on the stage, lobby bar, or by the pool and every other week a beach party.Cuba day on Fridays is back on the lawns with amazing food and drink with entertainment and should not be missed. Must thank Hermies and team in buffet plus Sonivid in D/C area for breakfast, with Mercedes and team looking after us in the evenings. On the beach all the teams doing food and bars, with service from Daniel, Jegni, and Leonis, also Yosvany and gang at the diamond bar. Thanks also to Veronica, Yuri, Betty, Iris and Yakima plus the guys for entertaining us on the beach and pool side, foam parties included working so hard. Julio and the whole of the lobby bar team should be praised for serving amazing drinks with a smile from dusk to dawn.We used only US dollars and some Canadian, for tips which you could use anywhere so makes monies a lot easier. We were in the diamond club this time so spread our time through out the whole of the hotel complex, so must thank our butlers, Alberto, Betty, Leo, Alex and the others for all the help, also our lovely maid Yami. In reception Vania and all the team here who were always so helpful even when really busy, not forgetting Mariela. Had a brilliant time at the resort the whole hotel has a lovely friendly atmosphere with amazing staff and makes for a really great holiday. Just remember that Cuba has some supply issues from no fault of its own so be patient. We will be back for sure . …
My wife and I have attended a yoga session with Veronica. We are both new to yoga and Veronica was very professional and patient with us. It was a very enjoyable and challenging session in a beautiful setting. It is a great way to start the day and Veronica is a credit to your company.
Just back from a fabulous two weeks at the Royalton Hicacos and what a wonderful holiday. From the room maid to the general manager everyone was so helpful and very welcoming. Yes there are shortages but do your research before you go to Cuba and you understand the reasons for this, there was always an option for food and drink and you would have to be really fussy in our opinion not to find something you like. My only complaint would be the system for booking Al a Carte restaurants needs a review and more options given to people who are not diamond club given the chance to book in advance. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff who made our holiday special. Raul and the team at breakfast, Hermes and team at lunchtime, Mercedes and team at dinner, Maria and team at the pool bar, Veronica and all the entertainment team, everyone at the Lobby bar and Marian our butler and team, you and everyone else working there are a credit to the hotel. It’s been the most amazing time in Cuba for our first visit and won’t be our last and we will definitely be staying at the Royalton Hicacos on our next visit. Sue & Alan Rattenbury.…
We are having a wonderful trip. We have had great help at reception with a room change. Thanks Jennifer!! and Veronica is doing a great job with entertainment!! We are finding service at the bars a little slow but the drinks are great when we get them!!!

Fabulous hotel and staff. Had a wonderful meal tonight on the beach with a beautiful sunset. Will be very memorable. Veronica from the entertainment team runs a great show. Each guest has a personal butler, Gabriel has been looking after us. Looking after our every need.
This was our second stay at the Royalton Hicacos, and we enjoyed it as much as our first. The staff and people in and around the resort are wonderful - friendly, helpful and attentive. The quality of the food was really very good. Cuba resort reviews often point out concerns with the food but our experience here was very good. As we always find on our trips to Cuba, the people make the difference. Daniel (beach bartender) was always a pleasure to talk with and he mixes an awesome mojito and pina colada. The serving staff at the buffet are fantastic. We wish we could remember all their names but the groups that handled the tables on the outdoor terrace both at breakfast and dinner were simply outstanding - warm, friendly and very good at their jobs. All of the above made our stay wonderful.…
The good: BEACH: They have a really great stretch of beach, with lots of loungers and good beachside service. There's a smoking section, but even though we don't smoke we found it was the best part of the Diamond Club lounging area. STAFF: Hotel staff are all very good. The "public facing" ones (reception, restaurants, bars, "butlers") all speak English well and seem to understand and appreciate Canadian manners and expectations. The ones who only speak Spanish are friendly and helpful as well. ROOM: The room we had in the 3000 block was clean, and was kept clean. The bed was decent. The shower was hot and powerful! Reminded me of the '70s. Safe had to be fixed, but worked after being fixed immediately. Lots of fresh towels. FOOD: Buffet had lots of great Cuban food. If you appreciate rice, beans, stews, pork & chicken, fresh fruit, and good dairy and bakery items, you can eat very well without hitting the à la cartes. Eggs are fantastic, and they have good charcuterie & cheese at all meals. Lobby bar is well-stocked. ENTERTAINMENT: Lobby bar bands and show bands were great. Needs improvement: BEACH: The beer at the beach bar is flat. They don't seem to have a tap, so they haul in draft from the lobby bar in big plastic containers. The plastic cups are really small & flimsy. We just gave up on beach beers. STAFF: No issues. Great folks, and well-trained. ROOM: We had a junior suite, and it was clean but worn,.Tub had rust stains, furniture &c were a little shabby. But that's not unusual in Varadero, even at other resorts of this level. FOOD: We avoid shellfish at resort buffets just out of caution. If you want fin fish, get it fresh-fried. (It overcooks in buffets). The buffet pizza was not something I would try again. But eat Cuban, and you will eat very well. We cautiously ate raw salads and fruits without an issue (they must sterilize the rinse water). In March, the pineapple is underripe and the watermelon is watery. But the papaya is great. I don't know why they do not serve tree-ripened bananas, which grow everywhere. The coffee, sadly, was weak. Even the cappuccino. What I would never do again is the à la carte Caribbean restaurant. It was mostly the same Cuban food you can get at the buffet (ropa vieja, beans & rice, cooked veg, desserts) but served in a pretentious manner in a cavernous and cold ambience. Honestly, we prefer to choose our meals by sight and aroma, so we didn't go to any à la cartes after that. Give me the flexibility and friendliness of a good buffet! Conclusion/Recommendation We have stayed at the Blau and the Iberostar on the same part of the peninsula. They were both good, but Royalton had friendlier service, with nice grounds, and better honest-to-goodness Cuban food. This was our first trip without our (now-adult) son, and we did miss the joy of young kids playing on the beach. From what I saw in March, this resort attracts mostly Gen-X and Boomer Canadians and Germans, and younger Latin Americans. It's aways nice to have a bit of diversity, but at 52 it did make me feel a bit over-the-hill. It's definitely not a big party resort, even if people are getting legless and silly at the bar. Our biggest advice is to get Diamond Club. The rooms aren't really luxurious, but the "butler" service — for us, from Yanara and Pedro — was really helpful when we wanted to go beyond the package tours and hire a taxi for a Havana day trip. They also helped us with late checkout. These two really earn their gratuities! (We will request their section next time as well.) The Diamond Club exclusive beach also has much nicer loungers and service, and we were never left without a spot on the beach no matter when we arrived. We didn't use the Diamond Club lounge by the pool, so I have n comment there. We'll be back. …
The resort is well laid out and beautiful as well as well maintained. Great food, buffet was excellent! Staff works hard to ensure all aspects of your stay is enjoyable. Beach activity coordinators were dynamic and friendly to all beach goers! The private tour to Havanna arranged by the butler was a fantastic day! Lastly, the beach itself is stunning… blue calm ocean and very clean and safe.
