We went as a group of 8 ladies to Playa De Oro in October. This was the first time any of us had been to varadero and we all fell in love with cuba! The staff are amazing! From housekeeping to restaurants to bartenders and lifeguards.. We all were very well taken care of and made some great friends! Shout...

Old, dirty, noisy, broken air conditioning, broken lock of balcony doors, fungus on the walls, lamps and furniture, numerous bitten by insects including so-called bed fleas, uncovered inlets to sewage pipes - odor, dirty walls, bathrooms, windows, bedding and blankets. In one word - nightmare! Hotel from hell !

I stayed at Mercure Playa D'Oro in April of 2015. It was a group of 6 of us (couples). We were a little hesitant after reading reviews but the price was right so we took our chances. It was well worth the $660 per person all inclusive! It is Cuba so you have to lower your standards of expectation and...

Excellent resort for my money. Everything is close to the hotel and the beach is amazing. Food is the same like everywhere in Cuba but the Grill Ranchon close to the beach is very very tasty. Clean rooms and nice stuff.

This appears to once have been a luxury resort, that's been badly neglected for about 25 years. First the good things about Playa de Oro: - excellent beach - low price - tolerable food (bland, repetitive and limited... but tolerable) If these are enough for you, take advantage of the low price. If not, read below and see our pix....

There is very little to recommend this resort other than the fantastic beach. The resort is shabby, run down, poorly managed and often dirty. The first room we stayed in was covered in mould and smelled like a dank basement. There was literally mould on all the surfaces (walls, mirror, lampshade, head board, etc). See photos below. Even the sheets...

My mom and I travel a fair amount and this, by far, has been our worst experience on any trip/ road trip etc. Between us, we have stayed in hostels to 5 star hotels all over the world from Israel, horse stalls at the Royal, trailer parks in the states, etc We arrived to an ignorant guest service lady who...

I went on this trip with my preteen grandson . The food was okay and the staff was very friendly. The buffet was average. My grandson really liked the snack back and I have to admit that their hot dogs were good. The beach BBQ was great. The grounds were well kept. The patio off the lobby looked nice but...
