We use this amazing home for many of our Cuba tours, and we are always pleased and excited that all of our expectations are exceeded. Our guests that stay in the home are more than satisfied with the attention, cleanliness, food, environment and safety in the home. We will continue to use this gem in one of Havana's most prestigious areas for any of our upcoming tours. I have Gillian and Alex a 5 plus!
Alex (Alejandro Soto) and Yillian Caraballo hosted our recent tour group sponsored by "Your Cuba Travel" Our rooms were air-conditioned and comfortable with plenty of space to store our clothes and photo gear. We delighted in traditional home cooked meals such as Alex's Ropa Vieja and Arroz con Pollo. Cuban coffee was available before and during breakfasts on the patio, which featured bread with home made jams, fresh fruit juices, eggs to order and a delightful fruit plate. Rooms were kept spotless. Refrigerators in rooms. Laundry available at low cost.
I cannot imagine better place to stay in Havana. All rooms were clean and comfortable and we really enjoyed evenings on terrace. The owners speak English and were very nice and willing to help with every request or question. I will always remember delicious traditional homemade food, fresh fruits every day and unforgettable coffee. It was pleasure, thank you!
A very nice place to stay, with comfortable and well-equipped rooms. In a quiet and charming part of the city, yet in a short walking distance to the Viazul bus station. Probably one of the best places to stay in Havana if you don’t only want to enjoy the city but want to travel with bus and explore other places in Cuba like Varadero, Vinales, Santa Clara or Trinidad as well. The owners, Alejandro and his wife, speak good English. Just ask about what to do, where to eat or which places to visit in Havana and you’ll get a helpful advice.
Stayed in this great place for a week while touring Havana. Within walking distance of bus station, zoo (not really a zoo person, but interesting), a fabulous restaurant (Paladar too) and a beautiful (no really beautiful) forest. Clean, spacious rooms, great breakfasts, personable and knowledgeable hosts. Able to converse in English a bonus...
Not only was the place clean, but it was immaculate. The linens were fresh each day, which I normally would not prefer in the line of ecology, but after showering each evening, the crisp linens were very welcome. Breakfast was an absolute delight. The first morning I ventured out unto the terrace early and asked for tea. Each subsequent morning that tea was awaiting me as I left my room before my traveling companions. At the breakfast table, the Cuban coffee was wonderful, as were the perfectly cooked eggs. You will be delighted by this place!
We stayed 3 nights in February 2019. The room was spotless, had personal safe for valuables, private bathroom, great air conditioning, a mini refrigerator that had bottled water and soda/beer for a very small charge and soooo convenient! The room smelled clean, no smoke odor at all, no mold at all. We especially loved the covered rooftop patio where you can sit and have a drink, smoke a cuban cigar, view the area, and enjoy the breeze. The hosts were so welcoming and breakfast delicious and ample! The area has great dining for lunch/dinner a block away- eat at La Casa-sooo good! We booked a trip through cuban connection tours for seven days. What an amazing start!! Havana should be seen through a Cuban's eyes, and its rich history, beautiful architecture, colorful people experienced, not just read about. Staying in casa particulars was affordable, but better- you get to experience real cuban people. Our hosts Alex spoke English and his wife Jillian made the best cuban coffee!! Our tour guide Jay showed us his country, spoke perfect english and we experienced Cuba like everyone should. He picked us up from the airport, showed us Havana, we checked in to Hostal D'Soto. We never had to find a taxi- because our guide was our private transportation the whole week. It was extremely easy to fly from Idaho to Fort Lauderdale, then a separately booked flight to Havana. Southwest gave instructions for the Visa (support for the Cuban people) and we prepaid. 2 bags fly free too. Yes we had to take cash, but Cuba is very safe and even safer if you have a cuban guide! Go people, stay in Hostal D' Soto, you will love it. Havana needs a few days to discover her more fully, but also see Viñales- amazing, refresh in the Bay of Pigs in the south, experience Cienfuegos, and stay in casa particulars in Trinidad- wow! Everything exceeded our expectations, even the weather- perfectly warm, but bring a hat and sunscreen.…
We had the opportunity to stay here for several nights during our stay in Havana. Yilian and Alejandro were such gracious hosts - they were very welcoming to us and our kids. Our room was big and comfortably fit the 4 of us - they even provided a pack and play crib for our 1 yr old with cute teddy bear pillows and bedding - such a sweet thoughtful touch. The breakfasts were nice and tasty. The house itself is grand and impeccably clean. There's a nice roof terrace to eat dinner on or have a drink. The neighborhood is nice and authentic - there are great restaurants within walking distance and the city zoo was only less than 10 mins away by foot (perfect for the kids). If we ever go back to Havana, we will definitely want to stay here. Mucho gracias Yilian and Alejandro! - Kim & Alex and kids…
Me and my friend were traveling through Cuba for 1 month in July/August this year and had one of the best stays of the whole trip at Casa de Soto, Havana! The people are too nice and we had a great day of fun with our friend Nestor (see picture). He showed us the real Havana and we went biking through the old part. Eating local specialties, music in the little streets, dancing to salsa, it was great! Thanks again everyone for the very nice stay, we felt very welcomed in your casa. We will keep the memories. Regards, Erwin and Danny (from the Netherlands)
Hiatal d’Soto is a safe and cozy environment for couples and families looking for a place to stay in Havana. The rooms are kept clean with hotel amenities. Meals are served in the garden patio available upon request. Alejandro was very kind to accommodate our changing requests and even went out of his way to help us. The house is a taxi ride away from the city but is conveniently close to the viazul bus station and money exchange counters. This was useful since we moved around Cuba. We thoroughly enjoyed their hospitality and conversations. Gracias por todo!! Erika & Miloš
